Ogden: no regrets on retirement

There’s not one iota in Jonathan Ogden that still longs to play football. The former Ravens offensive tackle and certain Hall of Famer made that clear after the team’s practice this morning.

“Retirement’s a little different,” Ogden said. “It’s a little slower than when you’re out here working every day. I’m working on my golf game and preparing to do a little pre-game radio shows this year. Just something to stay busy. But besides that, I’m enjoying my time off. Just playing with my son, who is four, and just playing golf.”

Ogden, who retired prior to the 2008 season, said he watches many Ravens games and finds himself rooted in his sofa.

When asked if he yells at the television, Ogden said, “Of course. I did it on the sidelines, so I might as well keep going.”

By the way, in case you’re interested, Ogden can play a mean game of golf for a man who was listed at 6 feet, 9 inches and 345 pounds in his final year.

“Man, I’m a 10 [handicap] now,” he said. “Three of my last four rounds have been 79s, and then all of a sudden, I blew up to 92. But that’s OK. It’s going to come back. That’s what happens with golf. It’s going to come back.”

I wish nothing but round after round of 70s for El Hombre. If there was ever an individual who stood for excellence on the field, character on the sidelines, and integrity in the community, I defy anyone to name someone better than Jonathan Ogden.

Baltimore was blessed to have such a stellar dude.

I wonder how far he can drive the ball? Probably like 400 yards.

Sure, Chris, I can't think of a better role model than J.O. That's why I always told my kids to watch him play. Hmmm, now that I think about it, they do throw their helmets when they disagree with their coach's play-call and laugh on the sidelines after losing fumbles (like J.O. did in Atlanta). You don't suppose they've misinterpreted Ogden's integrity and character, do you?

It's a sad statement on our society when some 400-pound behemoth who barely had to work at his craft to make millions of dollars is automatically judged to have character and integrity. When are people going to realize that we really know nothing about these people and, more often than not, they would just as soon spit on us as treat us with an ounce of respect? Can't we just leave it at: We want our thugs to beat the other team's thugs? Taking it any further is hero worship and not something to which adults should succumb.

To Bernie and "Mean Gene"....

You have absolutely got to be kidding me. Ogden plays his butt off for the Ravens for over a dozen years, is a certain Hall-of-Fame lineman, and you trash him?

Hey, Bernie.....I guess you think the Ravens should have taken Lawrence Phillips with that draft pick back in '96, huh? Yeah, Ogden sure is a poor sport, isn't he?

And you sorry sack of manure "Mean" Gene....you call out Ogden for "barely working at his craft?" You basically call Jonathon Ogden a thug?

You BOTH are supreme idiots, but then again, I think you are both Steeler fans. How else to explain two posts that exemplify stupidity?

Me & my kids are great fan of J.O. We like this post. Baltimor is really blessed to have such a person here. thanks a lot.
