'Heap of old' played against the Panthers

I'm hoping this wasn't an aberration, but it was nice to see tight end Todd Heap back in the offense. If he can become a factor again, it would quell a lot of this talk about finding this big name, go-to receiver. He had two catches last night against the Panthers where he looked like the Heap of old, and they were excellent passes from second-year quarterback Joe Flacco.

He had 2 catches LAST NIGHT against the Panthers?

If he can stay healthy and stay off the ground Heap will exactly what Flacco needs. Last night we saw all 4 phases of passing. The over the top (K. W.), the intermediate (Mase), the check down (RR) and Heap over the middle. Looks good to me. Looks like a real legit "O"

I think the point Preston is making is that the TD catch and the leaping catch along the sideline where he got drilled are typical of Heap at his best.. Clearly, given the fact that Cameron's offenses have traditionally featured the TE (for example, when he was OC in San Diego), having a healthy Todd Heap will make a huge difference. Of course, getting him more involved also requires the O-Line being able to pass block well enough that Heap doesn't have to stay in to block. By the way, I think the Ravens still need to add one more veteran WR as insurance, although I pray it isn't that jerk Brandon Marshall.

Yes but remember: Heap is a possession and short yardage receiver. He catches the ball in traffic.

His non-td catch was between two defenders and his TD grab was after he ran a beautiful route - one that left the safety out of the play.

I heard another comment while listening to sports talk radio in Atlanta: where the QB gets comfortable with his receivers is in practice. It will take time for Heap to gain a spot in the route running scheme so that he will be more than the third or fourth option.

On that note, I watched Rice catch some short passes and make some moves that left ME with a sprain just watching him! This young man is someone we Ravens fans can watch with joy!

Gonna be alot of fun with HEAP back healthy and catchin' some balls....the long hand-offs to RICE, I love that...and oh yea there are two others guys that can run the ball too! gotta love it. Don't need a deep receiver, just need to throw the ball long to keep 'em honest at least until we get that long ball receiver (draft, trade ? whatever) It's gonna be a fun year to watch Ravens football.
