Pro Bowl receiver to Ravens?

It has been rumored that the Ravens are interested in trading for disgruntled Denver Broncos wide receiver Brandon Marshall.

Without citing a source, Pro Football Talk reported that “rumors are flying in some circles that Marshall could land in Baltimore.”

Wide receiver has been considered a weak area for the Ravens, who had trade talks for Arizona Cardinals wide receiver Anquan Boldin two months ago. According to the Associated Press, Marshall has requested a trade and walked out of a Friday meeting with Broncos owner Pat Bowlen with several boxes of belongings. The Pro Bowl wide receiver didn’t speak with reporters as he drove out of the team’s parking lot.

The Ravens balked at trading first- and third-round picks for Boldin two months ago because that would be too steep to give up for a wide receiver who turns 29 during the season. Marshall is younger (25) and is a bigger target (6 feet 4, 230 pounds) than Boldin.

In his past two seasons, Marshall has caught over 100 passes and surpassed 1,200 yards receiving.

But there is baggage with Marshall. He faces a trial later this summer on two misdemeanor battery charges stemming from an altercation with his former girlfriend. The result of the case could subject Marshall to punishment under the NFL’s personal conduct policy.

Nicknamed “the Beast,” Marshall was a fourth-round pick out of Central Florida in 2006.

i love this player, yes he is young and do have some baggages, but he is indeniably a beat at this position, this guy size and run after the catch ability are great, a true beast at the WR position!

Pass on this player. Too many question marks and we do not need a hoodlum.

This is a HUGE mistake! Just watch the ESPN "Outside the Lines" report on this goon, and then tell me you'd want him to represent the organization.

Hell, why we're at it let's acquire Dante Stallworth and Michael Vick, too.

sounds like a chemistry killer

2 words: DO IT!

Joe Cool to the Beast could be the next epic QB/WR tandem.

ummmmm if the ravens don't make this trade, then that means all they want is to finish in the AFC championship game again

If they have a chance to get him and don't, it's a crime. They already blew the chance to get him in the draft but took D Williams in the 4th round while he was still there. Couldn't understand it - he was easy to spot at the combine. Trade them Dwill and whatever else they want. You say they wouldn't want Dwill, then why would we?

2nd and a 4th or 5th. Get it done. This is our chance!

Get him now!!!!!!!

My sense is, "don't get Marshall." The Ravens are working with really good team chemistry and stand-up guys the community can be proud of. I hope I'm not over optimistic, but I still have high hopes for those we have, particularly Demetrius Williams. With improvement in the O-line, more routes for backs and tight ends, and Flacco maturing and working more over the middle, I think the passing offense will be fine, especially if we can keep running the ball like last year.

Can the Ravens tame the beast? We obviously have our biggest problem at wide out. I would sit down with this guy and have a serious talk. The team doesnt need trouble, but we could sure use his talent. God worked for Ray, why not Marshall?

head case... but ozzie could definately control him. i would LOVE to have him! but only if we could control him

head case... but ozzie could definately control him. i would LOVE to have him! but only if we could control him

Dear Santa Steve,
Please bring Marshall to BMore.. Even steelers fans are worried about the rumor!!!

Please Oz, no more players with baggage. These are ingrates that have no business being role models. The players have to accept the role, or quit football & go to work.Appreciate your status, or get out.

The package of size, statistics and youth is very very enticing. Wow, 6' 4" and 230 pounds? I don't know, the Ravens all of a sudden seem very deep at receiver and corner and appear to be in decent shape at two positions that have been troublesome in the past due to injuries and lack of talent or production. I'm really excited about Mark Clayton and as long as he is not included in any potential deal for Marshall, I welcome the possibility.

Pass... leave the circus elsewhere.

We need this guy. It's the last piece of the puzzle for that SUPERBOWL! Flacco would have so many more options with Marshall double-teamed and it would open the field up more for the running game as well (everyone must account for Marshall in the backfield) This would be a great move for the Ravens. Boldin was too old, and required more money than Marshall. Make the trade Ozzie!

Interesting......the baggage he brings may make this just a pipe dream though.

Oh, go get him! We can calm him down, I think, and having a 25 year old, 6-4, pro bowl reciever? I know a team is never one player away from the superbowl, but we're supposed to be trying to get better, right? PLEASE go get him!

After the Raven's hire the woman beater they may as well go all out and hire Michael Vick (the dog killer). That would be 2 good role models for our children.

I think the Ravens should do what it takes to sign him... The Ravens would then have a true #1 wideout...

Multiple baggage.

He's been arrested several times for smacking around a past girlfriend and his current fiance. Regardless of his abilities - and they are significant - he's not the type of character guys that Harbaugh wants.

Please.... no.

I, for one, would vote no. The guy is developing into a Terrell Owens style locker room cancer. This team is being built the right way through the draft and sharp free agent pickups. It's a team loaded with good character guys who don't turn on each other when things get rocky.

If they're basically giving him away, maybe you could take a flyer on him. But I'd rather see the team hang on to those picks and let Ozzie and company make a pick in the draft next year.

Give me Brandon Marshall and guarantee me a super bowl victory this year! The Beast is a perfect nickname for the perfect fit for our team. Troy Smith and a 2nd rounder?

That is awesome!

This would be a mistake. If anything go after Plaxico. At least Plaxico's mistake was done unto himself and he didn't hurt anyone besides himself. Marshall beats women and may be suspended after a trial. Not to mention, you can sign Plaxico for dirt because he doesn't have much leverage while you would have to trade for Marshall, probably a 2nd round pick. I watched the interview on OTL and the guy just seems like a liar and has awful character.

Pull the trigger on this one Ozzie!

I know that Brandon Marshall is younger, but Anquan is clearly the better of the two receivers. Unless it's for a 3rd round pick, I'd say "no." He has a lot of off the field baggage that I don't think John Harbaugh would want to put up with. Boldin is a far better character person than Marshall.

He's a wife beater, just what the Ravens need. Find some young talent, with a little class - please..

Everyone keeps mentioning the Anquan Boldin interest, but it should be noted that while the Ravens had interest, the Cardinals had no intentions of moving him. If it had gone through, it had potential to be a major bust. If Ozzie & Co. can do their homework on Marshall attitude, then I can see much better potential here then w/ any other WR.

For some players a change in scenery is all it takes to turn a career around. There was a story on espn inside the lines a couple of weeks ago about Brandon Marshall. Both Brandon and his girl friend have some serious anger management issues. I don`t think a change in scenery will help this young man and I don`t think that he would be a good fit with the Ravens. Athletically he is a Pro-Bowl caliber athlete. But personally he has too much baggage. If he would come to Baltimore and be involved in someting off field the franchise would be hounded in the national media for trading for an athlete with known anger issues.

I think the Ravens should try to pull off this trade but give up nothing more then a 2nd round pick. This guy could be a pro-bowl WR for the next 10 years or he could be another T.O. Trade the pick and sign him to a 3 year deal with clauses in the contract that if he gets in MORE trouble he gets no money and whatever time he misses if he get suspended he has to payback those game checks. I think he's the best chance for us to get a #1 WR and this would take a TON of coverage off Mason, Clayton and Heap. Marshall would also help the power running game by taking extra LB's off the field. Also i want to see Denver go under i don't like any ex-cheatriot :)

This is a no brainer... Get this kid and Harbaugh will tell him what to do

I love Marshall. He's been my fantasy stud since I drafted him. I think he make a great addition on the field but I'm not so sure about his off the field antics. Let's just wait and see what Ozzie does. He's the man and what he decides is good enough for me.

Brandon Marshall is an excellent receiver but, his off the field issues, is a constant distraction.

Wow. I would love to have Marshall but his off the field stuff scares me. No doubt Oz will do what's best for the team!

While my preference is to court only good citizen type players, I think the Ravens should take a chance with this guy.

Our team could be just an injury free season and a #1 receiver away from the Super Bowl.

This going on the assumption that we can keep our #1 pick for next year.

The Ravens are just beginning to get a reputation as a team of respectable players. This is no time to stick another thug in the mix. And, frankly, Baltimore has enough crime problems without bringing a "role model" to the Ravens who's going to model abusive behavior.
Let "the beast" be a beast somewherre else. It's been nice to be proud of our team for the quality of its character as well as the quality of its play.

If we get him... we win the super bowl plain and simple

It probably should be noted that Brandon Marshall was taken 119th overall in that 2006 NFL draft... 8 picks after the Ravens took Demetrius Williams :-(

I guess Ozzie isn't totally perfect...

If Marshall is available then we have to go after him. I don't care what you say, we are not going to win a super bowl with the recievers we have right now. Team chemistry doesn't matter if you lack talent.
How can you pass up a kid with his size and skills? Football is a busniess and it's about winning and not who has the best role models.
Ray Lewis had some legal trouble too, how did he work out for us?

He's a wife beater, just what the Ravens need. Find some young talent, with a little class - please..

...you mean like the choir boys we have at the position now who can't beat press coverage??? Nah, get Brandon Marshall NOW!!! Denver didn't have the leadership to keep him in line. We've got it in spades over here!!

My reaction from the Outside the Lines report was that he and his girl were having some issues and alcohol probably made them worse. Who cant relate to some degree? Most of us don't get arrested for it but my guess was that the woman was to blame unless he hit her, in which case, he is not a Raven and I don't want him at all. Women try to lock on these guys with all kinds of games. The OTL report made no sense trying to villify a pro athlete, I'm not saying he is innocent but that I dont but a lot of stock in whatever that OTL reporter says as his whole sthick is disparraging reporting like the Duke case. ESPN really should be ashamed of that show sometimes.

My point is I think he has some baby mama drama and a change of scenery would be good. Ed reed, mason, ray and the others will get him in shape.

This decision needs to be a football value decision and not an ethical one. I cant stand these guys who judge so quickly based on a tv show. Like they are saints. No ones perfect and it might be a solution to his problems while getting a great player.

In Ozzie we trust!!!

You get him you still don't win the super bowl. You would have to trade at least a #1, #3, and a #6 (see Roy Williams deal). denver probably doesn't trade him anyway.

keep graspin.

as much as i hate the fact that the ravens still dont have a good receiver corps, i got to agree that this guy is a want-to-be thug. he's a woman beater for crying out loud. i would love having his talent on the ravens but we dont need a T.O. situation here. leave him in denver.

Super Rumor...Not a chance Denver trades their star QB and WR in the same off season.

You guys are missing the point. He's not a thug and he's not a locker room cancer. It's a question of character. The guy beats on women, for god's sake. Over and over and over again. T.O. may be the most selfish player in football, but character-wise, he is head and shoulders above Marshall. This guy is one notch above Michael Vick - maybe. Bringing Brandon Marshall to Baltimore would be an embarrassment to the city that far overshadows anything else.

He's too good not to take a chance on. This is the last year of his contract and he's not slated to make like what? 2-3 mil?

As for the people claiming we need a team full of character guys and role models, if you think such a thing actually exists, well...I disagree.

Do it, Oz.

We could also sign Michael Vick and Donte Stallworth. Then we'd have the dog killer throwing to the wife beater and the DUI killer. Get a life, people!!! Is winning so important to you that you would sacrifice your dignity and pride in saying you were a Ravens' fan? Just when they're starting to clean up their act? Let this thug go beat up girls in some other city.... What a pathetic excuse for a man he is. And, remember he's also been suspended twice for alcohol offenses.

I hate when fans insinuate leaders of the team like Ray Lewis and Ed Reed can keep troubled players i.e. Brandon Marshall in check and from getting in trouble. Football players get paid to play football, not baby sit.

Brandon Marshall is one incident away from a possible season long suspension. He's not worth the risk. Character > risky player with talent, IMO.

So I suppose Ozzie is now going to receive immense hate from fans who think football is a fantasy sport if the team chooses not to pursue Brandon Marshall.

Absolutely bring Brandon Marshall to the Ravens, he is an immense talent and has extreme potential if he is coached correctly. Shanahan didn't seem like the type of coach to get in his players' faces, Harbaugh will discipline this kid right away, as will Derrick Mason and Joe Flacco. And find me anyone who's going to do something stupid enough to get Ray Lewis angry...he will whip this kid up into shape real quick. There's so many good role models and coaches on our staff that character issues can be resolved if Marshall becomes a Raven.

woman beater??? Short memories in here. Wasn't it the beloved Samari Rolle that had the SAME issue when he was brought here? My recollection is that Mr. Rolle is a pretty good roll model here and had we judged him so harshly and ran him out of town, we would have not been as competitive that last few years. JMO

I respect the fact that the Ravens want to groom our young receivers but with them being a year or 2 away and with Mason being the only consistent threat, we'll be short one game again.

chemistry isn't a problem, he is behaved on the field, seems like he has mad bad decisions off. Give him a chance. McDaniel is and idiot. He should be the first HC fired BEFORE he coaches a reg season game. He is the next Lane Kiffin,

take him... it seems like his problems stem from the crazy broad that he was with. new city, fresh start. I actually like him more than Boldin (Boldin is hurt too much)

get him as long as he isn't facing suspension, the guy is a baller. he gets open and catches everything.

what do they lose in the draft? what other holes do they have? they obviously need a WR (check), eventually D-Line/end help, but they have depth at RB, CB saftey, a freakin' linebacking FACTORY, burn the picks, our 3rd rounders never pan out anyway.

I'll give up the 32nd and 96th picks of the draft for a SUPER BOWL RING! Then trade back a few and acquire more picks.

As most have already stated: Brandon Marshall is a "beast" on the field and somewhat of a "beast" off the field(u woman beater u!) But its undeniable the upgrade on the field this kid would bring. Cam would be able to make variations of offenses like the wildcat with troy, joe, brandon, derrick and ray rice on the field....that would be a defenses worst nightmare! With the bronco's questionable qb, I would probably want to leave too. But who knows? So lets focus on winning the afc north title now. With brandon, it seems possible. We'll worry about those other bridges when we get to them! Go Ravens!

Would you hire someone that beats women? Your daughter?

He is a great talent, however, he has major issues. must go to anger management or get fined, any bad behavior fined, his contract should be full of language that prohibits him from getting ANY money if he demonstrates his past disgraceful behavior. Also, we would be giving up a 1st and 3rd... HUGE RISK.

I think the guy is in denial and needs serious help before the NFL should allow him to play.

Brandon Marshall is one amazing talent on the football field.

But if time spent in a courtroom is the primary qualification, Obama could have just as easily nominated Marshall to the Supreme Court. He has had 13 encounters with the police since 2004. He also had an odd off-season accident in Puerto Rico where he "cut his hand on a paper bag" so severely it was numb for most of the following season. (One of those things that make you go, "Hmmmmm".)

In yesterday's Denver Post Woody Paige pointed out that Marshall is one 911 call away from an 8 game suspension and two away from joining Pacman in retirement.

But he is one amazing talent on the football field. (If he can pass a physical. The speculation in Denver is that the hip he is rehabing on his own down in Florida is worse than disclosed and he doesn't want the Broncos medical staff involved while he tries to negotiate a new contract. The speculation is that's also why Pat Bowlen wished him well in whatever his future holds when their meeting ended. Just, you know, speculation.)

What good is "good chemistry" if you can't count on it to keep a manchild like this guy in check? It ain't "baby sitting." It is the constant "in your face" pressure that keeps each player knowing that they are accountable to each other. A guy who "messes up" not only is messing with his own paycheck but also the paycheck of all teammates.

I would wager that Lewis, Reed and company provide a more effective bond than most teams including the Brocs.

The Ravns have too many "ifs and buts" about this WR corps. If it doesn't bring on cap hell - I say bring him on board and the SB becomes a strong possibility. Don't and you should gear up for a shorter season.

No one thought Moss could turn his game around either.

I'm not worried about BM being a cancer in the locker room. THe ravens are a solid cfranchise with good coaching and personel, much like the patriots that take more 'risks' than say teams like the redskins or Rams...

But the medical and off the field stuff does worry me...

Ozzy won't do anything rash. As he has said in the past- 'the right player for the right price.'

If the price is right for the amount of risk involved, it just might happen.

A clarification: I didn't mean to suggest Marshall is a problem in the locker room. Just the opposite, I think, is true. It seems most of his teammates like him (and of course, respect all that talent.)

The problems seem to arise when he heads to the clubs and home to his girlfriend.

All this hate talk and accusations of being a "wife" beater and being a poor role model, shut up! First of all Mr. Marshall is not married so he's not a wife beater, but yeah, I get your point-and your point is you don't know what your talking about. As far as your kids and the role model status, some of you adults act more like groupies and fanatics than the kids, so maybe the kids ought to be more concerned about the parents? As far as the accusations about Marshall hitting his girlfriend(s), women lie. Not attacking the ladies, and there are plenty who do get beat, and I don't condone that. But Brandon Marshall is presumed innocent until proven guilty-regardless if he is a Denver Bronco, Baltimore Raven, or the guy next door!

Hey he is a beast.26yrs.1000yds. two yrs in aroe.wont cost as much as bolden.
We dont no what his jealous girlfriend.not WIFE has done to spark hese issues.Trust me many of our beloved players do that and alot more.
He didnt kill anyone or dogs and he aint shot himself yet, so give the kid a break and let him come here and make the steelers crap there yellow tights.
