Ngata is back

Defensive tackle Haloti Ngata participated in his first voluntary minicamp Wednesday after completing his spring classes at the University of Utah.

Ngata still needs a few more credits to complete a sociology degree at the University of Utah. He was selected in the first round in 2006 after entering the draft as a junior.

The three-year starter attended the Ravens' mandatory minicamp in early May but missed the past two voluntary camps. During the mandatory minicamp, Ngata said he kept himself in shape with a trainer.

Wouldn't Ngata have received his degree from the University of Oregon since that is where he earned most of his credits?

Any reason why he is going to Univ. of Utah when he was drafted out of Univ. of Oregon?

Plays in baltimore, went to oregon, now Utah? Jeesh. Does he live in Utah? Is he a Morman?

Ngata is by far my favorite Raven.

Great! Now when are the Ravens going to lock this dude up to a long term contract? I beleive Haloti's deal is up after this year.

Or are we going to be treated to another display of "chicken" between Ozzie and Ngata's agent?

Good for Haloti to stick it out and get his degree even after he has made millions. Thats a great example for kids to look up to.

Its great to see a young NFL star making millions of dollars be so dedicated to his education. What a fantastic role model!

Why is Ngata going to graduate from Utah? He went to school in Oregon and is from CA.

Why is Ngata going to classes at Utah? Didn't he play at Oregon State?

Ngata grew up in Utah and is mormon. He actually committed to BYU and then ended up going to Oregon (a wise choice I think). I am sure he has a bunch of family still in Utah which is why he is probably attending school at the UofU.

Good for Ngata although a little odd that he is going to Utah instead of Oregon and no I don't believe he is a Mormon. Glad he's back as well!

Ngata is a practicing Mormon. He graduated from high school in Salt Lake City before going off to Oregon.

Ngata is receiving his degree from Utah instead of Oregon because Utah will be the university where he finishes his credits. He left school early and instead of going back to Oregon, he went to school closer to his family.

It would be so nice if Ozzie would get Suggs signed instead of stringing this out with the franchise tag. Then there would be some cap room to sign Ngata and maybe even a receiver.

Haloti is attending the University of Utah because he's from Salt Lake City and since he spends most of his off season there the U is more convenient than Oregon.

Question for everyone out there-

We need to resign Ngata and Suggs after this year. If the NFL does not come to a consensus with the players assoc. by March I believe, 2010 will be a non salary cap year. So, my question to the "ravens insiders" is, will the ravens lock these two guys up long term and pay them huge upfront during the uncapped year? This would make the rest of the contract managable. Please let me know your thoughts as I am not too clear on the details of how this could work.

Not all that rare really. Don't forget, Ray Lewis is a graduate of....wait for it....the University of Maryland!! Yeah Terps!!

Scott, in an uncapped year there is a clause that would extend Haloti's contract with the Ravens. Instead of reaching Free Agency after 4 years of service the team has control for 6 years. Biscotti spoke about some of the "poison pills" in the uncapped year that would likely lead to a deal being struck in a past press conference.
