Solid showing at first voluntary camp
A week since their only mandatory minicamp ended, the Ravens conducted one of their most well-attended voluntary camps in recent memory.
Players who normally skip these practices -- linebacker Ray Lewis and running back Willis McGahee -- both were out on the field Tuesday. The only starters missing were linebacker Terrell Suggs (franchise tag) and defensive tackle Haloti Ngata, who is in school trying to finish his degree.
"It’s exciting that guys want to be here but it’s not surprising," coach John Harbaugh said. "Our players love football. We kind of expect everybody here every day. But our guys want to be here because they love football."

I really glad to see that Mcgahee is there he may have finlly learned his lesson about changing his offseason habits.

Todd heap hurt again. Coach harbaugh will rid this team of those types of players. Heap was one of my favorite players but has proven to be made out of silly putty. Coach billick absolutely ruined this player with the way he babied him all those years in training camp. Coach harbaugh has and will continue to weed out all these players from the previous regime. What a major idsappointment he turned out to be.

I agree 100% with you blancione, Todd Heap needs to go, he is lazy and does not want to work and all it takes is a hangnail to keep him from playing!!! Bye, Bye Heap!!!

As far as I'm concerned Heap has a lot to prove this year...stay on the field all year and stay healthy. Hopefully they will be able to use him as a pass catching TE this year with a better OL. Nice move to sign LJ just incase "Ball Cap Todd" is sidelined again this year.

Lol give heap a chance. All hes done is put his body on the line for this team when we had a qb that would throw him up to the wolves during every pass across the middle. We have flacco now and he seems to be the only one that could throw him a pass without putting heaps life on the line. Blancione how soon you forget the Titans catch. He won us that game. Flacco basically said that throw came out higher than he wanted and Heap did all the work. Heap got us to the AFC championship game last year. I'm willing to give him another chance espeically since he has the best hands on the team.

Heap showing up for a voluntary camp is a good sign. If he is not 100% recovered then he shouldn't chance reinjuring his back. However, if he doesn't perform this season I suspect we will see the last of him.

It's not the injuries that have bothered me with Heap. In my opinion, he draws way to many penalties. False starts...holding....etc.

I take exception to calling Heap soft. Heap made the Ravens offense bearable under Billick.
He caught passes over the middle time and time again exposing his body for Boller that could take a huge toll on the body.

I agree that he is hurt alot - but not because he's soft. He has gone up for a few too many inaccurate passes over the middle - giving up his body. How soon we forget that his heroic catch against Tennessee in last year's playoffs was the game winner??

I can't believe McGahee is still on the team. He totally has the wrong attitude for coach's team.

I'm no Billick fan, but BB certainly has/had nothing to do with how fragile Heap is. The new guy LJ Smith they got from (Harbaugh's) Philly is as bad or worse when it comes to injuries plus he has no hands. Where was he during the mini-camp? ;-)

Per my friend in Philly who's a diehard Iggles fan, "..haha..LJ Smith is a bum!"
