Intriguing rookie joins Ravens

The Ravens signed undrafted rookie center Robby Felix, who suffered a stroke just six months ago.

Felix had started 46 straight games for UTEP before a stroke on Nov. 16 cut short his college career. He spent the next couple of months trying to make a comeback and participated in the NFL combine in February.

But Felix didn’t get drafted last month. He now joins the Ravens, becoming only the third rookie offensive lineman (first-round pick Michael Oher and undrafted center Greg Ryan) on the team.

Considering his college career, it is not much of a gamble, with a large upside

I think the Raven's front office is making some good moves

Let me get this straight. They wouldn't even work my homeboy out...who was a beast and is from Baltimore and did his thing in college. But they're signing a kid who had a stroke in his early 20's.???? He won't make the team more than likely...but I hope he makes it out of training camp healthy

This would be even better story if this kid makes the team. Coming back from a stroke is no easy task but I'd pull for this kid. Good Luck Robby!

What sort of player was he at UTEP?

Often when guys are given second chances they are motivated to do well. Best wishes Rob.

Can you give us a little background on Robby Felix? If I remember correctly, he was a premier C/OL, until he had his stroke. So if he's fully recovered, then this could be a real good pick-up by the Ravens.

According to Pro Football Weekly, Felix (6'3", 302) is married with a daughter. He took over at center in 05 and had a 46 consecutive game streak until his "mild" stroke. he was diagnosed with abnormally thick blood due to a vitamin C deficiency, which is managed with thinners and aspirin. He's a Raven-type player; he's tough, battles hard, and has a nasty streak. On the other hand, he's not very athletic and can get bull-rushed, but he comes to play.
