Report: Pace to visit Ravens

In a surprising move, the Ravens are expected to meet with free-agent offensive tackle Orlando Pace on Wednesday night, according to NBCSports.com.

Pace 33, was released by the St. Louis Rams last week in a salary-cap move. The first pick in the 1997 draft, Pace is a seven-time Pro Bowl left tackle.

This was an unexpected visit because Ravens general manager Ozzie Newsome recently downplayed the team’s interest in that position.

"Hey, I'm always looking to improve this football team," Newsome told The Baltimore Sun in a story that ran Monday. "At this point, we have no plans to bring in any tackles."

If the Ravens sign Pace, it would create an uncertain future for offensive tackle Willie Anderson. The Ravens would save $2.9 million by cutting Anderson.

Pace would be an upgrade, but the 6-foot-7, 325-pound lineman comes with some injury concerns. He has missed 25 games over the past three seasons and hasn’t played a full season since 2005.

Last season, Pace missed two games with a torn thigh muscle and injured knee. In 2007, he was sidelined 15 games with a shoulder injury. In 2006, he was gone for half the season with a torn triceps injury.

no anderson maybe the same age as pace look at the difference

PACE=IR

Anderson= play offs

Let him visit and go on his way. Pace is unable to stay healthy. According to Prestons article this morning, Anderson is determined to report in shape. He looked pretty good last season despite not joining the team until two days before opening day. A full season in the system and a full offseason to get into shape, sounds like another playoff run to me.

has been orlando pace. he's old news. LJ smith has a connection with harboh? smells like they want to move heap and make trade for a.boldoin. we can only hope!

I hope Ozzie recognizes the O-Line chemistry that would be lost if Anderson is let go. Willie was one of those players last year that helped gel the team together and had an impact on the maturation and confidence of Joe Flacco.
A note to Jay Cutler, look how a REAL veteran (Anderson) of the game handles his uncertain future with his current team. Mr. Anderson is a true professional. Stick wit Willie!

Can't have enough guys like this around....i say we keep em both!

Pace is a "former" Pro Bowler. There should be a red flag, on this one.
We're talking about missing half of the last 48 games. Pace has gotten a lot of ink, but that was several years back.
Anderson is hungry and smells a possible Championship. I'd stick with Willie, at this point. We can find a servicable OT on Waivers or in the Draft, if necessary.
I'd roll the dice with Gaither, Anderson , Terry and the present company.

What we really need is a C. There is no depth there and so far Chester has struggled when practicing at C, although vastly improved at RG. Pace is an upgrade for pass protection but a slight downgrade against the run, even though he's hard to evaluate with who surrounded him and all the injuries. That means he's more of a LT but Gaither has played very well especially when he had an injured shoulder leaving him with basically one arm while still playing nearly dominent. This is a run oriented team and where "Big Willie" puts defenders down and tries to get upfield to block, Pace stands them up to hold them in place. Not saying it can't work, but it does make you wonder if Cam wants to get more pass-happy. The move may clear some cap space but at what cost? In Ozzie We Trust!

totally agree,
willie anderson play decently last season, with only two week of training camp to get in shape and build chemistry with others linemen...
But now with one full season and one full training camp, he could be a solid player and i don't know why the ravens want to cut him for another old tackle with serious injury concerns...

If Orlando Pace has missed 25 games over the past three seasons, then I don't see him as an upgrade over Willie Anderson at this point.

Why not just stick with what we have now? We made the playoffs and kept Joe Flacco on his feet all season. How about getting him someone to throw to instead.

Uh couldn't you just put Pace on LT and Angerson at RT. If they do that which they should than Flacco should have way less hits on the blind side.

Talk is cheap. Thats all that will come of this. Keep Anderson.

The reason why Orlando Pace has been injured so much, is because of poor conditioning. This guy needs to work w/ strength & conditioning to get into football shape. Maybe a change of scene will help, but his conditioning needs to be a concern.

I say no to Pace.

Like Mike Preston's post says. Anderson is out to prove something and thats the kind of heart I want to see out on the field.

Pace on the other hand is to big of a question mark. With all the respect in the world to Pace & what he has done. If he cant stay on the field he hant help out the team.

Dont get me wrong I would love to have Pace on the team. I think he would be a great player to have. I just dont want to lose Anderson to get him.

Just what we need a broken down hasbeen OT who is so injury prone and out of shape he hasn't played a full season since 2005. What we need is a WR for Flacco to throw to and not a hasbeen/injury prone OT. What is Ozzie thinking? Go for Holt and not Pace.

mike... we dont need a C, we signed Matt Birk?

Tim... we have J Gaither LT... need Pace at RT, not Lt. Would drop Anderson if they signed Pace

What about Hale and Cousins? Do they have any future with this team?

Anderson is still a beast and has one or two seasons left in him. Pace may have a longer career ahead, but his injury history is what prompted the Rams to blow a second very high draft pick on an offensive tackle (Barron). Pace might play five more years, but the chances that he will miss 20-30% of his games seem almost certain.

Adding Pace as depth at the right price might be a great idea. But is that really possible while keeping Anderson?

Last year we had zero tackles going into the season. Just a bunch of question marks. Yeah. Gaither emerged. Terry played ok but got hurt alot. Anderson did a fine fill in job. Behind them we had notta guys unless you count Cousins or Hale both long term projects at best. Sign Pace. Keep Anderson. Keep developing Gaither. Terry as both side sub. Now you have real depth. Now you have consistent performance and watch Flacco grow. And Pace will come cheap. restructure Anderson now.

I think that Pace is only coming here to raise his price up a little.

Uh oh,what's wrong with Willie?I see red flags with Pace and Anderson can play full time;he wants to be with a winner.OK,I'll let Ozzie be Ozzie on this one.Oh boy........

Who has more experience against the AFC North teams defenses(Pitts, Cincy, Clev.) and the AFC in general? I say we keep Anderson. Get Pace as insurance when one of the linemen goes down due to injury, and in special situations.

We dont need to waste more cap space on Pace. Anderson will get the job done and we shored up center by signing Matt Birk. I'm not sure how much cap space we have left but signing Pace would be a waste of it.

Yeah I'd definitely pass on this one. Pace has missed way too much time the past couple of seasons to take a chance on.

ok if we sign both there are going to be issues he got stronger and trained harder to prove some thing to help out with Joe cool would yand be come 2nd or 3rd center if that would happen would there be questions

so maybe no

Sounds like Leon SEARCY all over again! How many games or should I say TRaining Camps are we going to get out of PACE? How much of an Upgrade would he be over Anderson?

Stay with Anderson.. I agree with the majority on keeping Willie...He's Still Hungry.

WE REALLY NEED TORY HOLT !!!
