Pace, Smith could take physicals Thursday

Tight end L.J. Smith likely won't sign with the Ravens Thursday because his physical is scheduled for Thursday. Once he passes, the six-year veteran will sign a one-year, $1.5 million deal. Smith would give the Ravens some increased size inside the red zone.

Offensive tackle Orlando Pace will arrive in Baltimore on Wednesday night and visit with team officials on Thursday. Pace, a seven-time Pro Bowl left tackle, would play right tackle for the Ravens. It is believed the sides haven't begun serious negotiations.

Would Pace really be that much of an improvement over Anderson ? I've got a lot of respect for Anderson given how late he arrived here and not expecting to start.

Jamison ~ Would you or Mike care to speculate on what a signing of Pace might mean for the future of Willie Anderson with the Ravens? How would Pace be an upgrade given his recent injury history? Thanks!

How scary does that imbalanced line package look with Orlando Pace, LJ Smith, and Heap on the same side of the line with the heavy package of Neal and McLain in the backfield? (Nevermind the play-action bombs that could come out of that look if the Ravens get a little speed at WR.)

Get off the tracks, the train is coming...

What an addition would this be. All of the NFL elite would have to stop and take notice of the experience and youth that make up the Raven offensive line.

he is a left tackle and keep anderson

then move lt gaithre to rg that should work or even use him as a guard but it would help

Don't like the Pace interest. I would rather stick with a motvated in-shape Willie on the right side.

Anderson spent his entire career in Cincinnatti. Lets put him on the right side and win a superbowl with him

Gotta trust in what Harbaugh saw in Smith up close in Philly. Our depth at TE is improved for not much $. Can't say I see much trade up with Pace. He and Anderson are both beat up old warriors, and Willie has the better book on the AFC ( esp. the North). Anderson also was a good soldier in the team-first, role-playing model in 2008. Hope he stays around.

Don't use an early round pick on OL. Let's go after CBs and WRs first. There are options at RT: Terry, Yanda ( he was drafted as a RT), Anderson, Hale, Cousin.etc., etc. That could almost look like depth ... at least in March!

Lj was monster when he first broke out on the scene. The Ravens are hoping he can duplicate past performances. Pace would be an upgrade over Terry with the sheer weight alone and allows the the Ravens more flexibilty on the line by placing role players to inserted somewhere on the line to create mis-matches. Sign Lance Moore from the Saints for your second round pick and your be picking up a blue chip player who has performed the functions of slot and speed. Get his film and stats. I'm sure you'll agree. Nice job cutting the fat Coach. Hopefully you won't beat them down like last year !

I feel good about getting pace now lets go after holt. the ravens are gearing up to beat pit

I like Smith, pass on Pace, I like Willie. I also like Holt if he can still run, and I'm hoping that DHB will be there when Ozzie picks.

I'd hope the Ravens pass on Pace. Anderson has had a season to get comfortable with the Ravens line. And Pace has had injury issues. I'm sure the Ravens don't want a repeat of Leon Searcy here.

I think we should give LJ at least a two to three contract. I believe with the kind of locker room we have in Baltimore LJ will rise up to the ocassion and prove to be a key reciever for Joe when the deep ball is not there. I can't say am 100% on board with the Pace decision. I don't think we should cut Willie he still played great last year coming in late so with a whole year and OTA camp with the O-line I think he will get better. If we do sign Pace it should be to alternate him and Willie to keep them fresh cause they are up there in age. Use a second round pick in the draft to pick up an OT to develop. In Ozzie we trust.

Mike, why do they feel the need to sign Pace instead of keep Anderson? Will we actually save money with this move? Otherwise, I just don't see the point. And do you know of their plans for Lorenzo Neal? It seems like every team that has let that guy go over the course of his career has regretted it immediately the following season.

So far the Ravens have made all the right moves. If Orlando Pace is HEALTHY...he's still effective..and on the right side he helps our running game so much. Now that we got LJ Shelton..we can draft 2 WR's in the first 3 rounds with a DEF player mixed in. I'm thinking Percy Harvin and Rames Barden at WR......

I went to a couple of Eagles games back in '05 and '06 and all i can remember is LJ Smith making big play after big play. Donovan would run around like a decapitated chicken and LJ would find ways to get open and eventually catch the ball. This is a great pickup - another solid target for Joe to utilize.

ok i think with lj and the issue orlando would be a bad move becase he is injuried and they said i found out with espn if the bengals get a OL they will get rid jones and we could add him and save money which we will need for a WR the next move is git rid magahee and pick up harvin if avibale also they could get maclin and trade to get harvin that would help out and beat the steelers

Please release that doofus (forgot his name, right now) who commited that totally fatal penalty on the Ravens last drive in Pittsburgh.I'll never let that 15 ydr. go in my mind. That penalty goes down as infamy in a championship game.Where's his walking papers?

Harvin is too small, he will get killed in the AFC north, we need big recivers like DHB, or Nicks. My question is, what if Pettigrew is the bpa when we pick ? That gives us 3 starting caliber TE's ? I would love to get DHB, but I think he will be gone.
