No statue limitations for Ravens' Lewis

If you think Ravens owner Steve Bisciotti and Pro Bowl linebacker Ray Lewis were joking Thursday about building a statue of Lewis outside of M&T Bank Stadium, they weren't.

In fact, earlier in Lewis' career, former Ravens president David Modell promised Lewis that he would build a statue of Lewis if he ever led the Ravens to a Super Bowl. Lewis has won a Super Bowl, and he has never forgotten that promise.

It will happen some day. You can M&T Bank on it.

Better a statue for Ray than one for O'Malley.

that's the least we can do....we should consider changing our name to the Rayvens too....after all, he built the place.

no complaints here. he deserves it. possibly the best mlb and leader to ever play the game.

its been an absolute pleasure watching him week in and out on the football field for 13 years. good to hear he will retire as a raven

They should put a coin box on it,everybody drop a quarter and hear Ray animate "woo-hoo-hoo!" from the top of it.I never thought he actually left us;he was just using his resume' for awhile.

amen brother!!!

Lewis deserves it. He's been great, and he's been great for a longtime.

I'd make sure it's not as big as Unitas's, however. He's not quite on that level.

I have no doubt that glory hound Ray-Ray will be fussing about that statue within 30 minutes of his retirement being announced.

Good to hear that Lewis was never serious about leaving his "family in Baltimore". I guess that explains why he took less money than originally offered - Ray-Ray was just looking out for the team, as always.

Sorry but I'm Sorry......you know Ray Ray is good..... no really good......no really really good, but Johnny U. he ain't.

Period - Just keepin it real Dog

Even after a bit of an ugly "flirtation" with other teams, Ray has been the face of the Ravens for his entire career and deserves the acolades. It may be overstating the point, but Ray is to the Ravens what Johnny U was to the Colts.

I'm fine with that. We have Jonny U in the courtyard and he was a Colt. It is time to build our own player legacy. Let's just wait until Ray is inducted into the HOF.

the word out of ray's camp that he was now never seriously looking elsewhere is completely disingenuous and otherwise insulting. how dare ray lewis continue to do nothing but lie and say whatever gets him the most attention at the moment. we all know that had any other team offered him big money he'd be elsewhere today.

you post that like it's a bad thing.

M&T Bank on it? C'mon, man...

Where you going to put it? Unitas Plaza isn't that big....

Yes let's build Ray a staue.. but he will never be top tier in Baltimore Sports legacy.. Brooks, Ripken & Johnny U are always that. I would put Ray at the level of Frank Robinson and Eddie Murray. By the way.. where does Mat Stover belong ? How many years did his field goals win games (including the Super Bowl year).. he may not need a staue but put his likeness prominently somewhere at M & T Bank !

@Bobby K in Winchester - funny choices there - only the white guys get to be top tier? Frank Robinson is as great a player as Brooks Robinson by any measure - in fact, he was better.

Ray Lewis is in that class - all six of them are great, no need to segregate them.

rofl @ Steve's post !

btw, I think Brooks is above Frank simply because of the amount of time he played here.
