Count on McGahee returning
Ravens head coach John Harbaugh said he will continue to use three running backs for the rest of the season, and he also said the team has plans for veteran Willis McGahee even though McGahee didn't play Sunday against the Bengals.
In fact, you didn't know if that was McGahee or Batman on the sideline because McGahee spent so much time in a cape.
But I don't think Harbaugh was lying. He has always delivered on these kind of statements during his short time in Baltimore. I think the time off gives McGahee time to heal, and he'll be fresh later in the season. I like what the Ravens are doing with big running back Le'Ron McClain, but a healthy McGahee gives the running attack another dimension.
We haven't seen the last of McGahee for this season. Now, as for next season, that's another story ...

McGahee at 80% is an inferior running back to Rice and McClain. Once healthy though he should be getting the bulk of the carries. I love that the Ravens are resting him. We're going to have the freshest running back legs in the AFC for the end of the season and hopefully postseason.

The RAvens will need Willis and every other healthy body down the stretch! These next few games are the season! Go Ravens!

For a 1st year coach, Harbaugh manages the flow of the game and does it well. Unlike Billick, he does not allow his ego get in the way. He let's the coachs coach and leaves Ryan and Camron alone. As for McGahee, Harbaugh is right to rest him against the Bengals so he can heal. As for next year, if he doesn't work out or particapate in the voluntary mini camps I think the Ravens will swallow his contract and move on.

McGahee is obviously in the Harbaugh doghouse, and it's probably due to his attitude and work ethic. When he gets a chance to play he doesn't always run hard and stick it up in there. Harbaugh has seen it, as everyone has. As I said before, Mcgahee might as well have used a mask and a gun for the money he got from the Ravens. He is a good example of an athlete who took the money and it was party time. Goodbye, Willis

Looks like 3 out 4 posters get it. Sorry Gil Jr- you have no clue as to what McGahee has done to get into the NFL after a devastating knee injury. He actually has a great work ethic but has had injury problems.

I know all about McGahee's history Phil. Unfortunately,he is one of the players who has not bought in to Harbaugh's system, and will be gone after the season. If you think he was standing on the sidelines with his cape on yesterday dressed but"getting healthy'", I think there was another reason. He will play when he proves to Harbaugh that he has bought in.

sorry, Phil...Gil is partially right. Willis did work very hard to get into the league, yes. however, he wore out his welcome in buffalo, due in part to a poor work ethic, and the same is happening here. He may be hurt; he may be in great position to help this team in december and beyond. I have some very good contacts within the organization that tell me Willis is basically a child, who limps on the wrong leg when he is injured, and does not like playing when it rains or is cold. A team member told me before the Houston game that Willis would have a good games, because "its 75 degrees and nice outside."
Billick tolerated it, but this new regime will not. They had no problem letting the problem child Mcalister go. They will do the same with Willis.

I like Harbaugh. There is no birthright to playing time. Of course, everyone liked Billick in 1999. I like the way Harbaugh does not reveal his "hand". It's been a fun year, no matter what the outcome. Most folks were saying the Ravens would be lucky to win four games.

Resting willis is going to be huge! He can be that elusive powerful runner he has always been but only when healthy. He looked great against houston and miami and we shall see it again.

Willis McGahee is the best running back on the team. Like him or not....that's how it is. He finds his way into open the open field more then McClain or Rice. Give him the ball 20-25 times in a game and you'll see the damage he can do. It's hard to get it going when you only get a few carries. Resting him against the Bengals was a good call though.

McGahee is the best running back in the AFC. Attitude doesn't mean anything, only ability, look at TO

I can't believe how quickly people can turn on you. Willis was a pro bowler last year. Gee, he got like what...1200 yards. Third or Fourth best in AFC ? Are you kidding me? I like Mclain but he nor the Smurf (ray rice) can compare to what he can do when healthy. Mclain, can get you so tough yards but hes no Brandon Jacobs, with speed, power and good hands. Willis, according to what has been said, has bought into the new coache's plans. Stop already. How can Yukon or Gil say what the heck is going on with Mcgahee? Shut up...and wait to see how he finishes. For goodness sake...when we had the couple of losses in a row, many were pondering if Harbaugh was going to be a good fit. Some things have worked some haven't. If things were that bad, I'm sure Mike Preston or David Steele would've found a way to write about it. Stop with the quasi news reporting !!

I think that McGahee has a lot of nagging injuries, which is why the coaching staff is benching him. They have 2 other running backs on the team that can carry the load and be successful. With McGahee rested perhaps he can play better down the stretch run. We will need him in the Steelers game and probably next week against the Skins.

Willis McGahee is a good running back and I don't blame Harbaugh for not playing him against the Bengals, they are saving him for the games in December when we will need him, if you cut McGahee that eliminates our three headed attack and Willis is one of the better running backs in the league.

Wow, some haters up on this piece. But I'm just gonna repeat what Drew, Skeebo and my namesake Darnell said; they all make sense and that's what's up! I'm a TOTAL Ravens fan and I root for all three backs to succeed without trying to "dis" any one of them; as far as I'm concerned it's one for all and all for one.
Go Ravens!

Mike, Do you really think the Ravens are going to be willing to take a Cap hit of over $11M ($8M+ more than he is presently set to count) to not keep McGahee around?
That would essentially put them out of business for the offseason with little other cap space to otherwise improve the team.
They'd be better off just letting him sit and collect a check, he cost them less cap space that way.

Willis killed in the game after his last week 'off.' This next game will show us what he's got, which is PLENTY.
