Ward escapes Ravens bounty
I guess no one from the Ravens collected the alleged bounty on Pittsburgh receiver Hines Ward. He tried to take his usual peel back, cheap shot at Ravens linebacker Bart Scott in the second half, but missed. Scott got in his face immediately.
Say what you want about Ward, he does deliver, and showed no fear going over the middle yesterday. He got some help from quarterback Ben Roethlisberger, who threw passes to Ward in stride, or low where only he could catch them. Ward had eight receptions for 107 yards, and three of those came in the 12-play, 92-yard game-winning drive in the fourth quarter.
Maybe the bounty has to be extended until next season.

Maybe the Ravens need to focus more on trying to stop Mr. Ward (8 catches 108yds) instead of worrying about taking him out!! He has clearly gotten into their heads.

I missed the play you are speaking of but nothing would surprise me with Ward. We love him in Pittsburgh because of the way he plays. He is fearless and a clutch receiver. When he scores he doesn't beat his chest and point to the name on his back, he gives the ball to a fan wearing his jersey and flashes that smile we all love to see. If he were a Raven he'd be loved there as well. He fits the mold for both teams.

Oooh, Bart Scott got in his face immediately. I'll bet Hines was real scared by that... NOT.

A little Fabian Washington in the 4th quarter would have made all the difference in the world. What terrible timing.

I agree with David Madden - we are able to defend against other top receivers and we can defense him if we stop letting him get into ours heads and just play our game.

This was one of those games that it's a shame either team has to lose. I'm a Pittsburger, but I have great respect for the way the Ravens play the game, minus the bounty bravado.

"Maybe the bounty has to be extended until next season."
Maybe if the Ravens weren't so concerned with bountys and being complete scum; they would be a better team. Personally, I would be ashamed if I lived in Baltimore. I know it isn't the entire team, but a few people can ruin it for the whole team....

I don't look at this as being a case of #86 getting in the heads of any of the Ravens players at all; in yesterday's game, or even the first game either, where JJ took a reactionary shot and got penalized. Pittsburgh made more plays then we made and we win some-lose some. One statement I do get tired of hearing, and I've heard it more than once over the years, is 'if (#86 of Pittsburgh) was a Raven we would love him.' Well, he is not a Raven and I don't want him as a Raven...NEVERMORE!!!

Once again, Hines took you school. The Ravens run their mouths. Hines lets his play do the talking. God you people are soft.

Bart Scott = OVERRATED! Complete stiff

"I don't want him as a Raven." Right. Luckily "you" aren't making personnel decisions. Ravens would snap him up in a heartbeat if he became available. Hate him as a Steeler. but not many receivers happily go across the middle and make as many key plays as he has, and bail out shaky QBs as often has he has, for as long as he has.

"Maybe the bounty has to be continued to next season"
Go ahead and extend your pathetic bounty to next season...no matter...Hines and the Steelers will crush your spirits and division title hopes again next year.
We'll see you in the playoffs THIS YEAR if you can man up enough to make it to the AFC Championship.

I am very surprised that a sports writer for a large newpaper would approve of "bounties" and ask for them to be used again next year.
Are you sick?

hahahaha. just like years past, the steelers will choke in the playoffs. maybe this year ben will go for a nice motorcycle ride through the country side without his helmet.

To John Small... We would'nt have you in Baltimore.

Joe Tain, I believe Mike was using a little something called "sarcasm" when he suggested that the bounty be extended. Obviously, the "bounty" played no part in that game. It wasn't that Hines "got in the Ravens' heads", he just got open and made plays. It didn't seem to me that anyone was trying to concern themselves with hurting Hines Ward. We tried to just go out and let the defense make plays, and it almost worked (would have worked if we didn't stop rushing the passer on that last drive). I didn't see anything dirty going on in this game, just two teams trying to get a W.

It is amazing to me that the big, bad Ravens defense cries foul when they are blocked by a WR. Kind of takes away from your perceived toughness when you whine about being hit. Actual tough guys take their licks with the same vigor and excitement as they dish them out - Hines Ward does.

Normally, I agree with you Andrew. But trying to block a guy when he's already on his knees is pretty dirty.

Bart Scott Ducked under Ward's block because he didn't want to look like a chump.

Just so you know the other half's perspective, and my guess by the way, is that this is what it would read like in the Sun if Ward was on your team:
As it appears in a soty in the Pittsburgh Post Gazzette:
If Ward had a regret Sunday, it's that he wasn't able to finish a block on Scott late in the third quarter. He peeled back on a Roethlisberger scramble and had Scott lined up for a legal hit only to go over top of him when Scott ducked.
"They put a bounty on me and then he ducks," Ward said, shrugging.
"He saw Hines coming and he was scared!" Holmes crowed from two lockers down.
It didn't matter in the end.
Ward didn't need to knock Scott into next week to go home feeling happy.
The win was plenty good enough.
-If you had a wideout willing to throw blocks like Hines you would see him as a stud who loves to compete, not dirty....No Need To Be Jealous ravens fans, if your LB didn't avoid contact, it still would have been a clean knock out block.

Geeze you won the game, get some dignity. Your the champs try acting like champs. You all seem to want to constantly rag on the Ravens(If their so bad - WHY would you bother????), while your behave like nasty little children.
Nobody cares about ward. Grow up...
Posted by: grey32 | December 17, 2008 12:11 PM
Grey32 - you guys are the ones with with the "bounty". Somebody obviously cares about Ward.

Hmm I'm a Raven fan, live in Baltimore and I am posting on a Raven Board, never even considered going to a Pits board.
Your here Hmmm...

Somebody obviously cares about Ward

Wonder who??? Hmmm
Also think your more interested in being a nasty child, seems you should
spend time worring your team, not ours.
hey I'm just saying..........

The STEELERS once again owned the Ravens. They had a better defense and a better offense. The Ravens are whining about a few plays - when the reality is the Steelers plain beat them with better defense, more offensive yardage, and more points.
I almost hope the Ravens win their next 3 games. It will be another easy win - and the 3rd against the Ravens this season - on the way to a 6th STEELER SUPER BOWL.
