Smith starting over
In the past, quarterback Troy Smith would have been very disappointed by the way the Ravens used him Sunday against the Raiders. He would have preferred to be the starter. But after suffering a severe lung infection during the preseason, you can tell Smith is just glad to be back on the field with his teammates. I remember when he first returned to practice and came into the locker room. Reporters were asking him questions about football, and Smith talked a lot about being around the players again, and just being able to play football. I think the illness may have given Smith a different perspective.

Mike - this is really good to hear because we all know Troy has a lot of talent. What's really fortunate is that he is playing for Cam Cameron who doesn't pigeonhole him into a stereotypical "back-up" role, but is thinking creatively how to use Troy in concert with Joe. I love this because each the Ravens offense seems to have a new wrinkle each week and must be keeping the defensive coordinators up late at night trying to figure out "what's next?"

There's no doubt in my mind that Troy Smith will be a very capable QB in this league for many years. His extremely impressive ability to avoid trouble in the pocket, and his accuracy throwing on the run certainly help's negate his "Height Dis-advantage". He'll make a TOP notch back-up, and there's quite a few teams in the league I believe he could/would be starting for right now & producing better results than what these team's are presently getting (See: Dallas, KC, and even the Raiders). The Raiders game showed me that as great as Jamarcus Russell's ability may be, Troy I believe, would make a better QB for that team because they have such a terrible O-Line, something that Troy help's from being exploited as he's a "mover and shaker" not a Stand in the pocket guy like Russell, so while Russell is getting clobbered, Troy would be picking D's apart, and picking up positive yardage with his feet when necessary. All of that being said, it's unfortunate that we won't get to see Troy's career blossom here. Flacco is definitely Now & the Future, it'd be UTOPIAN if Smith was content knowing he's going to get 5-10 play's a game, but just as we know, he know's that he's got the chance to be a starter in this league, so we need to enjoy, "The Suggs Package" while we can, bc I have a feeling Troy will be traded for a draft pick in the off-season, certainly with-in the next two years. He's been a stand-up guy since he's been here, and I think the Ravens will do him the courtesy of moving him to a team where he can start should the situation arise.
