Ravens right to sit out Williams sweepstakes

Some were speculating that the Ravens should have traded for Detroit receiver Roy E. Williams.

The Ravens are in desperate need of a big-play wide receiver, but not at what Williams would have cost.

You make a trade for a player like Williams if you feel you are a player away from the Super Bowl. The Ravens are more than one, two and possibly three players away from a Super Bowl.

I would have loved to have Roy Williams but not at the price of a 1st 3rd and a 6th round picks.

That is absolutely correct... wide receivers dont make 8 win teams into super bowl teams... keep the draft pick(s) and build around Flacco. With that said, the Ravens MUST address issues at WR, OT, CB and K in this years draft.

Mike,

Don't be shy, name the positions. Here's my list and it is a little longer than two or three:

1) Receiver
2) Tight End. I think injuries have caught up with Heap. He can't block, run or catch anymore. He also is not helping his rookie cornerback by running around and trying to get open when the play breaks down.
3) Quarterback. Joe may be the quarterback of the future but the future is not now. Obviously, we will go nowhere until he gets better or is replaced.
4) Safety. Landry is good with the run but stinks in pass coverage
5) Cornerback. Rolle is too fragile and has lost a step. Only reason he didn't get beat in the 1st two games was the pass rush( which seems to have disapeared lately).

I do think the Cowboys gave up too much, but I really don't trust the Ravens to pick a good WR in the draft. I like Ozzie's ability to find other players but just not WR. Therefore, the Ravens probably should address WR through free agency or a trade.

I hope the Ravens trade down again in this year's draft. I like teams built on quality depth.

I am not as harsh as others

Need #1 is a big time WR, i wish we could have Roy Williams. I think our receivers are good but mason seems to be the only one that can consistenly get open on his own, a receiver like williams would command attention to get them better opportunities

Need #2 is another quality corner, rolle suddenly can't stay healthy, washington is solid, c-mac is good but he plays as if he is a superior athlete and he's not, walker and ivy are better in the slot and they get attacked for their lack of speed

I think another tight end to put with heap to stretch the filed wouldnt hurt but it's not serious need, maybe a 3rd or 4th round guy

I think we are in good shape besides that....Flacco will continue to progress but we most be aggressive in getting him weapons

I think if we can get a rookie of Williams caliber with our first round pick, someone like our very own Darrius Heyward-Bey, then its a good decision. If you look at a lot of the early mock drafts, they're having the Ravens take our hometown hero. That, in my opinion, would be the best thing our Ravens could do.
