Missed opportunity for Williams

Putting wide receiver Demetrius Williams on the injured reserve hurts Williams more than it hurts the Ravens. The Ravens will miss his speed, but Williams wasn't producing a lot. The second half of the season would have been an ideal time for him to grow in his relationship with rookie quarterback Joe Flacco. The Ravens are taking baby steps with their passing game, but Williams could have proved he was going to develop into the deep vertical threat the Ravens have wanted for years. Now, he basically has to start from scratch again overcoming the bone spur in his Achilles tendon and re-establishing himself with Flacco.

Start from scratch? He has shown nothing since being drafted AHEAD of Denver Broncos WR Brandon Marshall a few years ago...he'll be in the fight of his life for a roster spot upon his return.

Next man up. Williams was not performing well this year (probably because of the foot). So let's see what the young guys can do. This is their chance to step it up. Oh, and has anyone seen Mark Clayton?

Signing Terrance Copper was a great move on the Ravens part.

wow we missed out on brandon marshall? d'oh!

we really need to do something about analyzing offensive talent in the draft, the last nfl-proven good pick was heap and he is not doing that well either

I agree, I wanted Brandon Marshall, couldn't believe we took Dwill when he was still there - ok Dwill caught a perfect pass with no one within 20 yards of him, I would have cut him on the spot if he dropped it.

Mark Clayton??? Too bad for Williams, I sort of liked him.

I agree. He will be in a fight to make the team. It's the nature of the NFL...teams will give you 3-4 years to make an impact and if you don't you might/might not catch on with another team. Devard Darling, Ron Johnson, Randy Hymes, Clarence Moore, James Roe...are all WRs who have been down this road for the Ravens. At this point, it's the next man up! And considering the Ravens' recent history at WR it has to be one of the easiest positions on the team to make an immediate impact.

I've always like Demetrius Willams,he certainly showed some signs of being a very talented receiver with his high jumping catches and good hands.....but I remember the scouting report's on him that said he was thinly built and might have durability issues....looks like that may have been accurate.....unfortunately...it takes a special indiviual to be abel to take the pounding and the all the physical demands it takes to be a Derrick Mason for so many years.

Has anyone seen Mark Who?

Yet ANOTHER bust at WR. At what point will we get it right?

Great point Frox... Hey Preston could you ask Coach Harbaugh to make sure that Clayton shows up for sundays game?

I like d will but mason is the only receiver getting open, im rational enough to try to analyze things before i just state an opinion but i think we need to go the route of the redskins, they went and added three weapons in the draft. maybe a tight end opposite of heap who can get upfield, and definetely a WR who commands attention. I think there is plenty of mid round TE's who could be available that we could draft to stretch the field, with syp coming back there would be no pressure for them to have to block, as far as WR maybe make a power move for someone established like anquan boldin or an ultra talented rook like crabtree. We arent that far away from really competing for a championship if we make the necessary moves this offseason.

let's draft michael crabtree!

Move Yamon Figurs into the slot, and just send him to the post...he doesn't have to catch anything, just maybe scare the defense with his 4.2 speed.

That way, you can keep him away from the return teams where Rice, Leonhard, Zbie and Ruki are better.

Maybe we'll finally get to see what Ernie Wheelwright can do. He was lights out in the red zone in college.

He hadn't built on the flashes he showed in 2006 and he's been put on IR two years in a row. It sucks that he will be out for the season again but, as mentioned, he hadn't been producing. Clayton has been invisible as well, I hate to say it cause I liked him alot two years ago but he is looking like another bust at receiver.

The Ravens should see what they got in Marcus Smith and Ernie Wheelwright, I don't know if they're the answer but they should at least see. A big-play WR should definitely be one of their top priorities in the draft in 09.
