McAlister decision nears

Ravens coach John Harbaugh said a decision on cornerback Chris McAlister will be made later this week. McAlister has been bothered by a knee problem, and recently got a second opinion. McAlister and Harbaugh will make a decision by the weekend on whether McAlister needs to have surgery soon, which will end his season, or if he'll continue to try to play.

I think McAlister will elect to have season-ending surgery soon, and get put on injured reserve. McAlister has been bothered by the knee from the beginning of training camp and never looked like his old self. Ravens defensive coordinator Rex Ryan did a good job of hiding McAlister, giving him help in coverage with outside linebackers and safeties.

But there will be more to McAlister's decision than just the injury. McAlister and Harbaugh just don't get along, and McAlister has had enough for the year. The secret is out that his knee is banged up again, and now he has a legitimate reason not to be around Harbaugh.

I think it's over for 2008. Bye, bye, C-Mac.

It'd really be a shame if the last memory we have of McAlister in a Ravens uniform is him getting beaten over and over by Peyton and Marvin.

Sadly enough.... you're right again.

It might be over for GOOD for CMac.

He had a pretty good run for a party guy.

The unfortunate thing is the Ravens were looking good as far as cap space for the '09 offseason with McNair, Ogden and potentially others off of the books. C-Mac's likely departure will fill some of that space.

That being said, this is Harbaugh's team. If C-Mac is the square peg on a team needing round holes to be filled, so be it.

Strangely, my biggest C-Mac memory is the 107-yard FG return against Denver on Monday night when the Ravens were a woeful 0-2 right after The Purge. And oddly, the biggest highlight of that play was Ray Lewis delivering a decisive bone-crunching block.

I know the Ravens have Lorenzo Neal and now have featured Haloti Ngata, but I have to wonder if there have been any thoughts to letting Ray being a lead blocker at the goal line.

wow..... there goes any shot we had at the playoffs. i mean these upcomimg games are crucial. who is going to stick braylon edwards, andre johnson, hines ward, plaxico burres, santana moss,TO, i mean come on we are so srewed. look at the QBs we have to face Campell,Mcnabb,Romo,Manning, big ben, looks like our season is done and mcalisters career as a raven just might be over too......

CMac is gone I think- I love his play when he plays but everything else about him is less than desirable. I am afraid to say that Reed might be gone as well- Having those two out of the secondary would be bad news for this defense.

I think this off-season , Ozzie and Harbaugh will make C-Mac and Samari Rolle their first cuts . As much as I like those players , their ages , injury history , and importantly , declining skills , makes CB a top priority . They drafted many safeties recently , so that area should be ok for now .

You saw the last of chris m on this team,. The fans of this town will remember him getting lit up in the colt game and that will be the last time he will put on a raven uniform. He won't be the only one that is for sure. While many people have varying views on what and how coach harbaugh just win over this team, the one thing that they will soon find out is that he won't back down from anyone on this team.He will surround himself with his own players in the coming years and weed out all the malcontents and slackers. In my opinion it is a well overdue breath of fresh air.

Says a lot about McAllister. The Ravens were a team that was widely believed to be among the league's worst during preseason rankings. We have played our hearts out, aside from vs. Indy, to a respectable 4-3 record. There should be no man in that locker room, based on the fact that we are in control of our own destiny, that does not believe. Hopefully by 2009, there won't be.

healthy, he's a top corner in the NFL. injured, he doesn't do nothing for us. go get surgery and next year stop whining. What, you want billick back?

Hiding him in packages? how did he get his hands on so many balls that he intercepted then early on? I don't get it. Why are they just not blunt w/ us. Just put it out there and let it be known, period. I still think it has to do w/ him being disgruntled w/ coach hardball, and deciding to have season ending surgery which was probably inevitable.

Hopefully he will be gone for 2008 and beyond. They could spend the cap money of several players instead of one overpriced and over the hill corner.

With Demetrius Williams on IR, Mason's production being wasted without a complimentary weapon, and Clayton not producing. Why not offer a 1st Round pick for Boldin as soon as the season ends.( I almost forgot the trading deadline had already past and was originally thinking to bring him in now) but still wouldn't One in the hand versus two in the bush, be the right line of thinking here. Give up the 1st rd mid-teens pick we'd have wasted on a never-gonna-develop receiver, on a guy who has some miles but has proven his capabilities

Mike -- You've been reporting on C-Mac's bad knee since training camp. All the while, C-Mac has tried to deny that he has any problem with the knee. There was really no mystery to C-Mac's benching last week in Miami. Anyone watching the Colts game could clearly see that he wasn't right and Peyton took full andvantage of the situation. On Harrison's second TD (the short inside slant route), C-Mac looked like a cigar store Indian as Harrison skated into the end zone. C-Mac has been a great player in this defense for many years, but the Ravens couldn't continue to allow him to play like that -- someone had to shut him down untile he gets healthy. I'm still not sold on Frank Walker as his replacement, but at least he is healthy. If C-Mac is done for '08, do you think his career in Baltimore is done?

Geeeee, you think we could survive as a team without C-mac, probably, we are doing OK w/o AD.

C-Mac, see who ? I have always thought he was the most over-rated defensive player in the league. He is and has been a bad seed since his arrival. He has never been a tem player on the field or off-field either. Good riddance.

just makes you wonder why we didn't go after roy williams. CMAC has been a great raven. Great Cornerback with attitude, sometimes too much, but I hope he gets operated on and comes back to town.

Sadly I hate to agree with the people who say this is it for C-Mac. If he goes on IR I can't see him in a Ravens uniform ever again, he and Harbaugh just don't mix and yeah the injury might be part of it, but the bad blood between these two seems to be the real factor. Even with the injury, he had three picks in the first five games, with some help I will add but still, so its definitely more than the injury.

Hopefully, Rolle can at least come back, finish up the year and help us get a respectable record. Sorry C-Mac you were a very, very good CB but if you go on IR that's the last we'll see of you.

TY LAW ANYONE?!?!?!?!

Jeez!! You guys are jumping to conclusions about next season already?? C-MAC will be back. You listen to the media way too much guys. HE IS A TOP 5 CORNER! You dont cut guys like that! Trust me he wil be back!

At $8million for his salary this year, it hurts the team's chances to do anything special. But....maybe others will step up and prove they can play in his absence. C Mac has been a great DB but he is definitely on the decline now and that won't change, regardless of the possible surgery on his ailing knee. Even when he was playing this year, I could tell by watching him in person at the first two home games he wasn't his same old self. It was hard to watch at times. He may still have a few decent years ahead of him, but the Ravens probably should spend that $$ on other younger, developing players.

If he does decide to have surgery, then they need to bring TY LAW in.. and i hope they have atleast started probing that. I would be highly disappointed if we let CMAC go... first Ravens jersey i bought. He doesnt want to leave Baltimore I think. And it seems to me Harbaugh has cooled on the negative vibes he was originally given. I think the relationship can be salvaged. Its amazing how so many people jumped ship on CMAC so quickly... These cant be the same fans who talk so badly about Frank Walker on the message boards.. can it?

Mac would never let Preston say bye-bye to him that easily. Plus, he's looked good this year when out there and now there's some hope for making the playoffs.

CMAC can't or won't do the job anymore so let Frank Walker play with his fire and desire. He started games for the Giants as a rookie and can run with any WR in the League. Coaches Harbaugh and Ryan realize this and he'll only get better with each game. We don't need guys who aren't pulling the wagon in the same direction

There's hope for next year's draft. A kid like Kevin Barnes from MD could be available in the second round( It seems good CBs are scarce) Let's hope Washington, Walker, and Martin can step up. Is Anwar Phillips worth coming off the practice squad?

C-MAC IS A Top 5 Starter only if healthy, he cant play hurt cause he lost a step...

C-MAC IS A Top 5 Starter only if healthy, he cant play hurt cause he lost a step...

haha its a hole different story after AD left we still had suggs, lewis and scott. with C-Mac out we have a often injury rolle, a decent corner in Fabian and..............nothing exactly missing C-Mac is a huge blow to this team and i agree the ravens need to bring a corner in possibly TY LAW! and once again there are Bmore fans that are ungrateful about what C-Mac has done for this team. Another thing for ever one the ravens have been trying to keep this a secret but C-/macs knee was getting better but he got into a car accident totaled his car and reinjured his knee so leave the man alone!!!!!! he is a human and the best corner we ever had and you fans throw him under the bus, just like you do with Lewis,Heap,Reed,Stover, and Suggs they make a mistake you wanna get rid of them, but when you make a mistake does your family wanna get rid of you think about. Some of you are becoming worse than eagle fans

Clearly, the confluence of Chris’ behavioral irregularities coupled with his diminished level of physicality has only exacerbated the level of contentiousness in an already tenuous relationship with the team. Of course, I might just be saying that to hear myself speak. - BB

Personaly, I think the surgry is a good idea. As to releasing C-mac and Rolle, I wouldn't just jump to that conclusion. Rolle, perhaps. As to C-mac, I'd bring him back and if he's lost a step, move him to SS. Last time I looked, C-mac was better on a bad day than half the starting corners in the league. Maybe the time off for surgry will give him time to reflect on his goals. He has to know he's only got a few good years left at corner, and a switch to SS might extend that a bit just as it did for Ron Woodson. No knock on Corey Ivy, but I'd be real suprised if C-mac couldn't out play him. Another selling point is the fact that players with his kind of skills don't just fall off the hay wagon. Why spend that much time, money and effort on a guy only to pitch him because he's had an injury and is sporting an attitude. To me, prudence dictates they (Read Ozzie) sit him down and have a heart to heart. If he comes to the conclusion he can't live with the new regime, then you have to let him go. I'm sure Cleveland or someone like them would be happy to get him. Then he'll get to come back here and stick to the Ravens....

CMac has been done for years now. For one, he is not displined as he bites on double moves like cheese on macaroni. He hasn't been able to contain any of the top wides in the league for years now. When was the last time he actually done so? I remember when he caused Will Demps acl to be blown biting on a double move by chad Johnson which caused Demps to have to fly to rescue only to be back juked. Demps was put on the shelf only to be cut in the offseason. Secondly, he gets a defensive holding seemingly every game. Why?.. because he can no longer cover. He has been a liability for a few years and I don't blame harbaugh for benching him. He needs it. If only Billick was that smart. I agree though, they do need to get rid of both he and Rolle as rolle is an egg out there. Keep washington and for now Walker, first round pick should definitely be CB as that position has been an achillies heel for a few years now. Unfortunately, CMac's days as a Ravens is done and it is about time.
