If Singletary falters, 49ers may give other ex-Ravens look

If Mike Singletary can't get the 49ers straightened out by the end of the season, don't be surprised if former Ravens coach Brian Billick's name is mentioned for the head coaching job as well as Jim Schwartz, the defensive coordinator of the Titans.

The 49ers will have to come up with big money to lure Billick out of retirement, especially since he is still getting paid for two more years from that cozy deal he signed with Ravens owner Steve Bisciotti. San Francisco might also have to give Billick total control of running the franchise, which would be very risky.

To get Schwartz, the 49ers wouldn't have to give up as much money and control. Schwartz is one of the brighter young minds in the business. He is also a graduate of Mount St. Joseph, and a former assistant coach at Maryland and with the Ravens.

Good job of figuring out something the fans on the message boards already came up with 2 days ago.

Billick never struck me as the type who'd want total control as GM too though.

Billick has already said that he wouldn't take the Raiders job, but I bet he would if the price is right. Watching Al Davis and Billick would be highly entertaining.

Billick Is smart he works well under GMs as a head coach I do not think that he wants to be GM and head coach Preston I know that you have a personal thing with him,but he Is smart and he will coach again.

Hey Mike, speaking of ex-Ravens, here's a thought: WHEN Marvin Lewis is fired at the end of the year and Rex Ryan gets his inevitable head coaching position, how would you feel about trying to woo Lewis back to Baltimore to be the coordinator again?

Billick has found his niche. Does he even miss coaching anymore? He seems happier than ever. "All the answers, none of the accountability"

Schwartz has deserved a HC job for 4 years now, and I'd be very happy to see him in the NFC. He wrote the blueprint for shutting down Jamal.

I was afraid the offensive genius' talents would go to waste. Just wait until he reserects the west coast offense!

Billickland will be coming to San Fran???

Glad to see you weigh in on this Mike. We all long for the days of Compu Coach criticism.

Putting Compu Coach in San Fran would in some ways be a homecoming for him, since he started under Bill Walsh. But frankly, I think Jim Fassel would more likely get the job.

Billick would fit in just fine in San Fran. The press is too apathetic or indifferent to care and they would fall for his "Billick speak" commentary. And after the trainwreck that was Mike Nolan, anyone would look better.
