Wrathful at Willie

After the Ravens' 17-10 victory over the Cincinnati Bengals, Bengals fans took out their frustration on ... Willie Anderson?

The Anderson who was a four-time Pro Bowl offensive tackle drafted by Cincinnati with the 10th overall pick in the 1996 draft? The same Anderson who had been the Bengals' four-time nominee for the NFL/Walter Payton Man of the Year Award, which honors excellence on and off the field? The same Anderson who regularly donated tickets in his private suite to underprivileged children?

Anderson, who was signed by the Ravens Friday after being released by Cincinnati Aug. 30, has been the target of immense vitriol by Bengals fans. In a message thread titled "CHEATIN [synonym for butt] WILLIE" on Go-Bengals.com, the administrator accuses Anderson of conspiring with the Ravens' defensive coaches and pointing out Cincinnati's offensive formations and tendencies before dropping a number of expletives about Anderson.

Bengals wide receiver T.J. Houshmandzadeh wasn't as vicious, but he also got into the act after the game. "Obviously with them having Willie, I'm sure he went over there and ran his mouth, but that's what he's supposed to," Houshmandzadeh said. "He's not here anymore, so what would you expect him to do?"

At least Houshmandzadeh spread the wealth and blasted the Cincinnati offense that currently ranks last after racking up just 154 yards and a field goal yesterday.

"We sucked basically," he said. "Everybody who got a chance to play -- what was there, maybe 13 or 14 of us? -- we just suck on offense right now. That's terrible. We can't move the ball, we can't get a first down, we can't run, we can't throw. We just didn't play good on offense -- bottom line."

TJ is so whiny. I really can't stand that guy.

Really who cares what the Bengals say anyway? Can you think of a more ridiculous franchise?

waaaaaah! Is it Willie's fault Cinci's pathetic defense could not get off the field during the final 8 minutes of the game when the Ravens ran it down their throats! I could see if the game was close, but the Ravens just gave them an old fashioned ass whooping!!

I'm pretty confident that the Ravens already know the tendencies of the Bengals. Divisional games come down to execution because all these teams already know each other so well. And, even if Willie did drop some knowledge, that's what every player that switches teams does. Hey Bengals fan - your team just sucked yesterday!!! Get over it!!

Hmmm, now I see where Whosyourmama gets it. It's never that they were beat by a better team, it's always someone else's fault. frikin' mopes!

Somebody needs to get over it. It is not like he walked out on them and he picked up the phone and called Ozzie and John and told them everything. The Bengals kept him until the end of camp and told him to take a walk. So what if he did? I'm sure they wouldn't say a word if the show was on the other foot. Crybabies!

bla-bla-bla
This is standard in the NFL. The Bengals released him. He is fare game for any team to sign. Many teams have signed players in the past for the sole purpose of getting a better handle on the opponent's game plan. I don't think that this was the Raven's sole purpose since they have an obvious veteran need on the O-line.

This mentality is exactly why I do not see the Bengals having a good season this year. Hearing some of the comments, it is reminiscent of some comments our defense has been known to make after a game. It's just that our team has had much more success whereas their team has had one good season and nothing else to really show for. Ravens fans need to know about the true issues that have been going on with the Bengals so that they can see that the Ravens' fans have not had it as bad as they think. Bad, yes, but not as bad as Bengals fans.

Excuses, excuses. Wow, never heard fans cry so much. It's not like he was playing offense and defense or special teams. The Bungles are terrible and they will always be. TJ is a girl and sucked it up. The only reason Carson threw an INT is b/c TJ bobbled the pass and C.Mac picked it off.

That is one nasty, low-class bunch of people on that board! [Go-Bengals.com]

hahahha wow they're blaming on Willie for their loss against us? I would have to say its pretty pathetic. Because the ravens know what the bengals can do on offense and it wasn't the first time the Ravens D were all over Carson Palmer and his two wide recievers. Hey if Willie played in that game it could've been a lot worse for the Bengals D. They're just pissed off because they can't admitt that we beat them fair and square.

If there's to be any talk of conspiracy, I'm surprised it's not centered around Willie's release and subsequent signing with Baltimore. How was he able to escape Cincy so easily, right when the Raven's had O-Line questions? That sounds fishier than the Bengals running game getting stuffed.

So...the reason we lose to Cinci is because they have Marvin Lewis then? Or perhaps a former Raven or two themselves?

Using that perspective, wouldn't we try to get a player from the Steelers? Wonder what they'll say after their next loss, like next week.

So its the offensive tackles' fault because the defense got caught with their pants down on a Double-reverse?!
heh, heh.... yeah!
I guess he also told Cameron that Cinci's defense don't pursue on bootlegs, either.
They got a lot of fans here in SC and it was fun to hear them cry. Thanks, Willie!

The Bengal's and their fans should be ashamed of themselves. This man was let go, he did not just pick up and leave. I knew nothing about his off the field actions, but it sounds like he was one of the real people who gives back to the community and less privileged, and that is something the Bungals need so desperately.

Marvin, come back home. We will likely lose the best assistant head coach in the league this year and our team will need ya.

Bengals fans are so clueless. What did they expect him to do? Take an oath of silence? If a player is cut or traded, the next team that picks him up is going to glean as much information as they can from him. It's called preparation, nothing illegal or unethical about it. It's part of the game. Jon Gruden did it when he prepared TB to play the Raiders in the SB. As a former coach of the Raiders, he knew their formations and the weaknesses. The assistant coach of the Celtics who was in charge of their defense, also prepared a defense for Kobe. He had coached and counseled with Kobe since Kobe was a teen and knew his strengths andd weaknesses very intimately. Kobe would later state that that knowledge of his game was so intimate that it was almost an unfair advantage.

Hey TJ why don't you whine some more, I guess you were better than the Ravens this time to and didn't show it right? Cincy's got two whiny babies for wide receivers, just shut up and play.

Beat by a better team? It's hilarious, as a Bengals fan, getting to see how puffed up the opposing fans can get after the performance their squad is able to put up against the Bengals. Yeah well, get ready for the crash. Next week you'll have to play somebody else -- anybody else -- and the magic will be worn off, and your Ravens will once again be horrible -- just horrible.
I agree. No Bengals fans should be holding any of it against Willy, though.
Anyhow, enjoy the week.

Bengals-

basically you shut down their WRs and rattle Palmer and you shut their entire offense down for the day. They cant run the damn ball at all. Good to see ravens are eating other team's running backs for breakfast still!

This one made me laugh! If he did it, way to go Willie, the pendulum is finally swinging in the other direction.
ps
I am so tired of T.J. Horse-your-mama being generally disgusted during the 2 losses he has suffered to the Ravens. I will never forget his ranting "we're better than Baltimore." Well not this Sunday T.J. And, if things continue to progress as we hope they will, you had better get used to losing to the Ravens. After all, that's what Bungles do.

I am a Bengals fan. 99.99999% of Bengals fans love Willie Anderson and understand that letting him go was a business move.

Have online newspapers become so desperate to dredge up news that they are now taking the comments of a single person on a non-official Web site somewhere on the Internet and making vast generalizations about it? "Immense vitriol from Bengals fans"? I guess if you define "immense vitriol" as "one or two angry guys on a random web site."

I am a lifelong Bengals fan and for the Bengals fan to cry about Willie giving up plays is ridiculous, number one he is a Raven now, it's your obligation to help your team win.

Number two, it's the freaking Bengals, our tendencies are an open book, the only people that don't seem to know what plays we are calling are the ones who are supposed to execute them. Who in the world couldn't see on the critical 4th down that the Bengals were going to try and run it up the middle(which hadn't worked all day)?

Gee, TJ, would you like some cheese to go with your whine? At least he didn't throw a tantrum and his helmet like last year, when we whupped 'em.
