Practice notes

In with one defensive tackle, out with another?

The best news for the Ravens was the reappearance of Kelly Gregg, who missed Sunday's season opener and the entire preseason after undergoing arthroscopic surgery on his left knee. The knee was wrapped, but Gregg took part in individual and positions drills.

But defensive tackle Haloti Ngata was not present during the portion of practice open to the media today. Ngata was not reported to be injured after Sunday's game.

Others who were absent included cornerback Fabian Washington (neck), linebacker Brendon Ayanbadejo (leg contusion) and quarterback Troy Smith (tonsil infection).

Cornerbacks Chris McAlister (swollen right knee), Derrick Martin (right shoulder) and Corey Ivy (sprained right ankle), as well as tight end Todd Heap (back contusion) practiced.

It is good to see Todd back to practice. He needs to practice so he will not drop the next TD pass.

Hopefully Ngata is not hurt. He is second only to Reed in terms of how important he is to the defense, in my opinion.

How long does it take to get over tonsilitis? Is there any projected return to at least practice for Troy Smith? Is he doing anything towards returning to the team? I heard he was in the locker room about 10 days ago but not a peep since. I know it's the Ravens but this is getting a bit weird....

did reed practice? did he wear a red jersey?

Wait a minute, Todd Heap is gonna PRACTICE?? All his hangnails and little bruises have healed?? Hallelujah!!! Maybe now he'll look like he's seen a football coming at him before.

What's the status of gametime this week, since Hurricane Ike is to hit Houston Saturday?
