Illness takes toll on Smith
As Ravens quarterback Troy Smith sat in front of his locker, he looked like a person who was rebounding from a serious illness. He looked like a person who has lost anywhere from 15 to 25 pounds, and his face had sunken in.
Smith appeared to be in high spirits, and talked about how good it felt to be in the locker room and joking with the guys again.
I don't think Smith really cared who was the starting quarterback. He seemed happy because he was feeling better.

Isn't there any more you can tell us about Troy Smith's status? What was the actual illness? Is he "cured" or on the mend? Will he be available to play Sunday?
"looked", "appeared", "seemed" don't convey a lot of specificity. It would be nice to know where our key players stand in terms of their roads to recovery in light of all of the pre-season injuries.

I read that Troy Smith had a type of tonsillitis that is very rare and has caused only 100 cases in 50 years. Based on this info, it quite likely that he had something called Lemierre's syndrome which is caused by Fusobacterium necrophorem. This is an extremely serious infection used to be highly fatal prior to discovery of antibiotics, and it still can kill you today if you don't get treated quickly enough.
