You can never have enough defensive linemen

The Ravens put defensive lineman Dwan Edwards on injured reserve today, and that will hurt. You can never have enough defensive linemen and Edwards was one of the top backups behind starters Haloti Ngata and Kelly Gregg.

Edwards is not a starter, but he is the perfect stopgap-type player who can fill in for a few games. Defensive linemen take a lot of punishment during the season, so you need a lot of them. Gregg has already shown some wear on his body and starting end Trevor Pryce missed most of last season with several injuries. The absence of Edwards will hurt.

So who are the top FAs available?

Edwards never lived up to his draft position and there was always a noticeable drop off when he was in...not like the SB year when the subs played almost as well as the starters when their numbers were called.

I don't think he'll be that difficult to replace.

The Ravens are going to have some serious numbers problems getting down to 53 with so many players dinged up or sick (Troy Smith). They may have to add a 4th QB if neither Boller nor Smith is ready for the opener. They should not have activated Ed Reed from the PUP list; he's going to take up a roster spot unnecessarily. The end result will be young guys like Marcus Smith and Derrick Martin, who likely will not be healthy for the opener but could have been carried if so many others were not hurt, probably will have to go on IR.

Dwan who? You mean the guy we drafted as our top pick in 2004? The guy Ozzie proclaimed would become a solid starter? The guy who has had more contact with the pine (bench) then someone living in a Siberian forest? The same guy who seems to be inactive just abotu every gameday? That Dwan Edwards? How will we possibly live without him?

Another fine draft choice for Ozzie.

What hurts me is Dwan "isnt a starter" Edwards was picked before Darnell "Pro-bowl" Dockett.

"The absence of Edwards will hurt."

Who, Oregon State? Journeymen are replaceable. Sometimes you luck out and replace them with a hungry street FA who permanantly takes the underachiever's job. Hopefully this will be the case.

Dwan Edwards and Devard Darling were on the first day - by PHIL SAVAGE not Ozzie Newsome.
