Tough blow for Burgess

It has to be disappointing for the Ravens to put second-year player Prescott Burgess (wrist fracture) on injured reserve. He worked extremely hard during the offseason and has played well in training camp. He has excellent potential, especially considering he's 6-3 and 240 pounds. As a rookie, Burgess got off to a good start playing in the first eight games a year ago and collecting seven special teams tackles. But he missed the last eight after being placed on IR with a hip injury.

The Ravens have a lot of good young linebackers, but they need playing time. The team might need some of these young guys next season with Ray Lewis, Terrell Suggs and Bart Scott being in the final years of their contracts.

Better to stash him on IR than try to sneak him onto the practice squad. Decent NFL LBs are not nearly as easy to come by as the Ravens make it seem.
The Bungles would definitly sign this guy or almost any LB we cut, and the Clowns are almost certian to pounce on the first DB we cut. IR allows us to keep him. I think they also value PJ Daniels and Dan Cody too much to just injury settlement release them.

After watching last exhib. game--it was obvious that a LB is not a problem-- the problem is the offensive line-- Boiler and even Johnny U would have problem performing behind this poor line-- The ravens all talk about the D we have no O--we need a fast RB--a deep threat a WR and of couse- steadier line play all thru the Tackles --without all those holding --ed

Burgess is not IR'd. He's injured-waived meaning he must clear waivers before going on IR. Chances are the Bungals get him.
