Walking wounded

In the endless repetition of training camp's two-a-days, the real story often is who practices and who doesn't. This afternoon, cornerback Chris McAlister and offensive tackle Oniel Cousins did not participate in the day's second practice. McAlister, who had knee surgery in the offseason, did work in the morning session. Cousins suffered a sprained MCL in his right knee yesterday.

One injured player who did practice was quarterback Kyle Boller, who left the morning workout early after removing his right shoe with an apparent foot injury. He showed no ill effects in the afternoon.

The Ravens had 15 representatives from the military at the afternoon practice, and invited them to participate in the practice-closing huddle.

Wow, that's awesome that they did that with the military guys. Wish I got to do that when I got home from the big sand box, haha. I've got a question...what happened to Freddie Mitchell? Is he still trying out for us?

We need WR help, go sign Chris Henry !!! 2 yr deal

Yeah, I was there in the huddle this afternoon and it was pretty cool. There were more like 50 of us though, not 15. Coach Harbaugh spoke for a moment but then turned it over to Ray who gave a very heartfelt thanks. It was really a nice experience and the players couldn't have been nicer. Whoever lined this up - thanks

We actually have plenty of good receivers, and DO NOT need another head-case trouble maker like Henry around. We have Mason, who within the last 4 seasons has been the 4th ranked WR in receptions in the NFL, right behind Torry Holt, Chad Johnson, and Marvin Harrison. We have Mark Clayton, who had a decent rookie season, and a GREAT 2006 campaign, with nearly 1,000 yards and 5 TDs. We have Demetrius Williams, who is a big (6'2") receiver, with great reach and amazing athleticism, who if healthy will mostly like have a breakout year in 2008, as our primary deep pass target.

And then we have impressive rookie Marcus Smith, who had a great college career, and is already said to be picking up the playbook and looking sharp in camp. And Yamon Figurs, who besides being our featured return specialist, is also showing noted improvement in his receiver skills, and with his speed, if he can improve his handwork, he could be a dangerous target as well.

Oh...and we have one other guy. You may have heard of him. Todd Heap? 2 time Pro Bowler (should be at least 3 time), franchise receptions leader, often called one of the top 3 TEs in the league? Yeah. We've got him. He's healthy, and reports are he's looked great in camp.

So chill out.

Kudo's to the Ravens. Might I just suggest for next year that Vets be included as well. Going to war with your teammates takes on a whole new meaning outside M&T Bank stadium. It's refreshing to hear that our Ravens recognize that. Now, like Favre, Chris Henry is not needed here.
