Rough start for Troy Smith
Troy Smith took the first snaps in the Ravens' red-zone drills but didn't impress.
In six plays, he was 1-for-5 passing with three interceptions and a fumbled snap. One of the interceptions was made by secondary coach Chuck Pagano, who was filling in as a defensive back.
Kyle Boller was 4-for-4 in the same drill but threw all short passes. Joe Flacco was 1-for-3, but his one completion was a tough pass over the middle to Patrick Carter.

Finder, Hensley wasn't making any conclusions from Smith's rough first start. He was merely reporting.
Short QBs struggle in the red zone. Drew Brees does well between the twenties, but then struggles a little in the red zone. I expect Smith to struggle throwing the ball in the red zone too, but he's scrambling ability will help make up for it.
Flacco did well at the Senior Bowl during goal line drills, I read. It's directly attributable to his height, his accurracy, and ability to power the ball into tight spaces.
Boller throwing 4 short passes isn't surprising.

I will take four short passes for a TD, or eventual a FG over interceptions and fumbles any day. With that said, I'm certain TS will improve.

Whats newsworthy is the first six words. . . .

Don't worry about Smith. He's played in bigger games than both Boller and Flacco.
Yes, the news is that he didn't impress because he will.
You'll also notice the post about the 85% patch. I would bet that Smith probably leads the way in that dept.
The Ravens need to get Teddy Ginn to give Smith someone to pass to. Good receivers can make a huge difference.

It's the first of many tough days, so remember that athletes are people too, prone to good and bad days at the office... just like the rest of us.
If Smith looked bad today he'll probably be great tomorrow, then it will be Flacco's turn in the quicksand and on and on we go.
Don't panic people there's a lot of football yet to be played and the Ravens will show up ~

I believe we've all become a little too critical of Boller, if it were Flacco that went 4 of 4 in Red Zone Drills for 10 a piece the headlines would say something like, Flacco showing the games not too big for him shows veteran like poise and judgement going 4 of 4 in red zone drills...with Boller we get, "you'd expect that from Boller" or "he played it safe",....it is the red zone a place where you want to come away with points not int.'s (like Troy) his decision making in that instance was impeccable I believe, 4 passes 10 yds a piece in the red zone equals a touchdown I dont maybe my math is wrong. Give the guy half a chance and your outlook on him will change dramatically I guarantee it will

Ted Ginn? LMAO. How can you expect any of us to take anything you say regarding Troy Smith or Ginn seriously when you have Buckeyefan in your name? What you see is what you get with Troy Smith. The players like him because he has a cocky attitude? So what. He will be a kick returner in a few years or out of football. The "Big Game" you mention must have been when he laid an egg against Florida in the National Championship game and OSU got slaughtered.

GO TROY, I am excited about Mr. Smith playing for Baltimore!

Just for the record, the big game Annapolisbuckeye was talking about is the #1 Ohio State vs. #2 Michigan game.
That would be the one with well over 100,000 fans in attendance in one of the highest pressure, biggest rivalry games in all of football - college and NFL.
The Ohio State/Florida game was an afterthought to an event like that.
He may be confident but he's not cocky. Tune in to his comments at press conference. Not a cocky in any way.

What difference does it make what someone's "internet name" is? If you can't or don't want to address the content of their comments, just don't, but leave the ad hominem crap at home.
With regard to Jermaine's comments about Kyle Boller, I think he's earned every bit of the criticism he gets with his play at the highest level. He has had numerous chances to play and he's had the support of the fans for much longer than he deserved it. So what if he is a nice or tough guy, I want a winner! In my (worthless) opinion, any further chances he gets should be accompanied by a healthy dose of skepticism and a large grain of salt. If he is under center come Week One, I'll be pretty shocked. I think Troy Smith will take advantage of this camp as a great chance to get his shot at starting while we let Flacco season and learn from the bench. No way should Flacco or Boller start unless Smith absolutely wets the bed, and if that happens, give Kyle the ball for no longer than two or three weeks, max.

Not a Ravens fan, but you guys in Baltimore shouldn't be panicking about anything. For the first time in years, you DON'T have to worry about your QB situation. In one year you went from having one of the worst QB situations to now having two legitimate QB prospects with Boller there for as a last resort. The Raven's offense from where I'm sitting needs a spark, and a playmaker like Troy Smith is exactly that spark. What is also key is that he has the confidence of the entire team. you need someone like him to light it up. At the same time, you have a prototypical NFL ready prospect in Joe Flacco, who like it or not, was drafted to eventually start. I myself don't think they needed Flacco because I always knew Smith was very underrated as an NFL QB, but there it is. This is a great situation for the Ravens and you as fans. One way or another, you are going to have a great young QB start for your team this season that is going to add a dimension to the Ravens' game that has been missing for two long. As a Philadelphia Eagle fan, trust me on this one. Enjoy it.

Troy Smith is exciting to watch like Vick was. He's got a lot of people anxious to see him pick up where he left off last season. As Madden said "Troy Smith knows football"
Also he's a great fit as the face of the city. Young, gifted and Black.
Make it happen Troy! Flaco will flop as Kyle did.
