Welbourn not the best fit for Ravens
The Ravens signed offensive tackle Chad Slaughter, but failed to reach an agreement with former Eagle and Chief, John Welbourn, an established player Kansas City officials thought was past his prime.
The Ravens still might reach an agreement with Welbourn, but he would be a high-risk player. Welbourn has a troubled past, and might not have been the ideal candidate for first-year coach John Harbaugh. The Ravens are desperate for a tackle, but Harbaugh also wants a player that can fit into his system. Welbourn also wanted a better contract than the minimum the Ravens were believed to offer.
The Ravens are in a major transition and looking for an experienced lineman that can lead. Welbourn may have made the Ravens better on the field, but may have caused them a lot of headache off it.

This points out exactly why in a radio interview on a miami stations recently -Favre when asked about going to the Ravens laughed and said-- with that offensive line are u kidding me--and who can i throw to --and laughed again-- if everyone can see this why can't newsome.

We need to hope that Gaither recovers completely before (say the3rd preseason game).
I am hoping that he develops. he certainly has the size to handle it.

The Slaughter signing is questionable but maybe he will give the team some depth.
I am not a fan of this new philosophy to run to the free agent market the moment something goes wrong. If you look at teams like New England and Indy, their success is not due to avoiding injuries, but having the next guy step up when he is called upon.
Promotion from within builds unity and allows guys already familiar with the system to get a chance to play. Besides, Terry and Gaither are only going to be out a few weeks. Let Cousins and Reitz and whomever else get a chance to show what they can do.

Favre, is overrated. 1 good year in the last 3. Who cares what he thinks? Green Bay was willing to let him go in favor of Aaron Rogers. Nuf said!

Welbourn had a drug suspension while he was with the Chiefs and missed the first 6 games last year.

I haven't heard anything on Brett doing any interviews. What station in Miami, when and is there a link? And didn't the Packers have the youngest line in the league last year? We're talking about an option here, not bashing an organization please. If Brett said that about Ozzie, it would surely have been front page. That said, the injury to Terry may be more serious than thought. I'm sure the search continues for the right fit.
