Sims could be long shot for Ravens

The Ravens are probably behind the San Francisco 49ers and St. Louis Rams in signing free-agent offensive tackle Barry Sims.

Unlike the 49ers and Rams, the Ravens are more set on their offensive line, which could push them farther down Sims' list. A former nine-year starter at left tackle for the Oakland Raiders, Sims recently worked out for the Ravens.

The Ravens are preparing to go into training camp with Jared Gaither as their left tackle.

Im not crazy about that idea...make Gaither earn the job. The Billick era is over, lets not give jobs to anyone

oh well if simms doesnt want a legit chance on winning then let him go to another team. even tho he may be expierenced he is still a risk at his age. its time gaither got his shot at playing and it will only make him better for the future.

I really don't think we are going to need him.

The O line will be a lot better if the playcalling can keep the defense off balance and reading and reacting to run or pass. It seemed like there was only the opposite of the standard call on 3rd and 1, when we really should have been running even if they expected it.

Moving Brown to the middle was a great choice that will really change the dynamic of the line play. We have been so used to losing the short yardage push at the middle of the line. That is crucial to converting any type of inside run. Now that option will not be taken off the table, and it will make the other optione eaiser to convert.

No more shotgun formations with Boller throwing to Musa off his back foot, incomplete and way short of the marker on 3rd and 1.*

*(Buff 4th q last year)

Will Sims be our back up?

No second year man that leaves practice with migraines secure a starting job in the NFL.

when Gaither stepped on the field for the 1st time last year against the 49'ers the fans in the stands were asking me if that guiy was human or the missing link between us and Big Foot.......Gaither may have alot......ooooops a lot to learn but he impressed the 49'er fans with just his size......the guy if he has an attitude he will be effective at the left guard for many years to come........lets go Jared.....GET IT DONE YA MONSTER!!!!!!

who else can play that position ???
we have seen terry play and i do not think he is going to in the OL it looks like gaither , grubbs ,chester or brown rg yanda and cousion

I say we should pass on any player that would hurt our salary cap. This is the problem we have been experiencing over the past couple of seasons, taking big hits to the salary cap for experienced free agents. What the Ravens really need to do is try to get the cap issues under control and build our team through the draft, like we've had success doing in the past (except the QB position). Until the Ravens start to have a large part of the salary cap available to sign free agents, instead of having barely enough money to sign our draft picks, they should stay away from free agents with lots of experience.

Why do they call them "free" agents when they cost a team millions?

as long as there is no billick making crappy play calls and pretending he's a god, I think the offense can pull it together and the O-line seems like they can perform. I can't be the only one thinking THANK GOD BILLICK IS GONE

Amen strange and paul, it's so refreshing to see intelligent football decisions being made and legitimate issues discussed.

O-line and qb experience should be the focus....and it finally is. This team is going to be special. All they needed was a competent football person running the game - and it seems we've found one. Can't wait.

Let me get this straight... a 9 year NFL starter can't beat out a guy who this year would be a senior in college & got kicked off his barely bowl eligible team because of work ethics issues? Huh?!
