Ravens take on MMA
The Ravens scouts do extensive research on all of their draft picks, but it was easy to assume rookie safeties Tom Zbikowski and Haruki Nakamura would both be physical.
In 2006, Zbikowski fought his only professional boxing match, knocking out Robert Bell in 49 seconds. And Nakamura's family has always been heavily involved in judo.
"We call them the mixed martial arts safeties," defensive coordinator Rex Ryan said. "We might not be able to cover anybody, but we’re going to beat up somebody."

So, what I am reading here is, though we needed CB's and depth at safety, the Ravens thought that we needed to DRAFT more special teamers?!?! I can't argue with Ozzie or his history here, but I think we have been too deferential to the new coaches "specialty". Surely there were more O linemen available that we could have USED instead of The Green Hornet and Kato for Special Teams. (no offense intended, just seems as though we are looking for gunners, not coverers)

To Yale:
Are you kidding? What do you think is the backbone of great NFL teams? Special teams. More anyone, Harbaugh realizes the importance of that. If anything, hard-nosed players like Zbikowski and Nakamura will have no problem earning the respect of their peers (the notoriously demanding Baltimore Ravens defense). Mind you we took Zbikowski in the third, and Nakamura in the sixth - you think we were going to find franchise defensive backs or offensive tackles that late? Be happy we picked up Fabian Washington for a 4th rounder, that was a great value for what we paid. These guys will be able to contribute to the team immediately, which is more than can be said for other players drafted at those positions. Chill out, dude.
Can't knock the hustle.

Any reason why we would draft two safeties that "might not be able to cover anybody".

From what I hear Zbikowski is a monster. He will be great with a few years experience. I predict he will be our number one safety of the future.

i think that they could be come a linebacker with the the ND saftie and the fs is going to be a PR and a nickle or dime and could use a pass rusher witjh speed and strengh
