How many tight ends did the wiz of Oz draft? Flacco has as much chance of starting for this team as Kim Meissner. Oregon QB Dixon was just sitting there. Good for Pittsburg. Smart for Pittsburg. Just what Big Ben needed for a back up. Run like a deer, throw better then Flacco. Fun to watch. You'll see.

Hey Paula - you do know that Dixon went down with a bad knee this season and that's the reason he fell, right??
Posted by: Jiji N | May 2, 2008 4:39 PM
When was the last time a mobile QB won a super bowl? Oh right, NEVER. He'll be the same as Mike Vick, Vince Young, etc. Great legs, great arm, no accuracy in an NFL offense.
Not even Steve McNair won a Super Bowl and he was the best mix of mobile QB, and pocket passer.

how many delaware games did you see?
Posted by: Anonymous | May 2, 2008 4:47 PM
PU, Dixon had a late season injury and has NO cartilage left in one of his knees. had to be surgically reconstructed. Put Big Ben on a motorcycle and he'll take care of sitting out the games on his own. From there, Dixon is a sitting duck... no wonder the Squealers picked him up so late in the draft. That's a guy you offer a FA contract to given the injury rather than wasting a pick on him.

We aren't worried Paula. Whats going to be the most fun is watching an extemely improved Ravens offense under Cam and John. Watch how much better some of the same old faces do with a fresh approach and better play calling. Flacco won't need to start. We have the tools already in place. Fun to watch. "You'll see."

Anyone that thinks Dixon throws better than Flacco has not watched enough film of both players. Flacco has the best arm in the draft and he is also a very accurate passer. Dixon would not have been a bad pickup at all but he is still only 4 months removed from reconstructive knee surgery and is a risk as it's anyone's guess how the knee will hold up to an NFL football season. Dixon was a good pickup where Pittsburgh got him. But you can't even begin to predict what will happen with either QB, only time will tell.

Hey Paula - Yins otta be followin dem STillers in da Gazette. Once ya finsh trade skul den u can come and vizit us in B'more.

Hmmm
As a die hard Oregon fan who loved watching Dixon, he definitely does not throw better than Flacco.

Wow not only disresepctful to John Unitas, but also intelligent...Did it skip ur mind that Dennis Dixon has been injured all season with what is usually called a serious injury. In fact, there is not guarentee he will play again in top form. Im very worried abt the steelers w Dixon...whew a 6 ft 3 180 lb QB i bet he can take a beating in the NFL. Good pick for Pitt...Smart Pick for Pitt...yea...right...who was the last successful QB from oregon? Joey Harrington? good pick smart pick..and in answer to ur question last good QB from Delaware Rich Gannon. went to a superbowl. nice try

Quarterback play has been killing the Ravens since they ran Trent Dilfer out of town. Why not really go for a solution? Flacco was a start but they should have also drafted Henne and Dixon. Carry four or five QBs for a year and let the battle begin between Boller, Smith and the rookies. I say let Boller compete so we can see how he plays with a coach who isn't named Brian Billick (Brian, we love you for the Super Bowl but you could not coach or identify QBs).
The Ravens do not have much $ invested in Boller or in Smith. They could have paid Flacco and Henne and traded one later. Now, if Flacco is Kyle the 2nd the Ravens are screwed for three more years.

i officially have a problem with the whole flacco draft because in the 13 years that this team has been here we have'nt had a solid offense and we all know after the offense line it all stars under center and we draft a guy who played let's face it pony league ball he has no idea what he has got himself into with the complexed defensive packages that the nfl will have waitng for him ok he's 6'6 with a big arm so what how many quarterback's are 6'6 with big arms that sit on there couch and wait for sunday to come just like me and you. is this another (billick scott mitchell leap of faith) or did delaware hatch the golden egg that the afc north defenses will try to crack
Posted by: raven kevin | May 2, 2008 7:00 PM
NO one gives a CRAP about steelers around here !

Just remember one thing guys - The guy that beat out Flacco at Pitt is making snow cones for a living now. Good for luck for the next few years guys.

Dennis Dixon is an excellent, yet injury prone athlete, not necessarily football player. He has a better chance at playing major league baseball, and I'm not joking, than professional football. Dixon is too close to taking a hit that ends his career on the gridiron and his cartilege-less knee would stay healthy for longer playing baseball
Posted by: Ralph | May 2, 2008 7:56 PM
Flacco had a great game vs Saint Jude School for Unwed Mothers. Too bad the Ravens made him their # 1 pick.He would have been a great flag football player
Posted by: Jeff | May 2, 2008 8:08 PM
Flacco may not make it...then again, maybe he will.
I'll say this much,he'll get better coaching than Boller did and he won't start game #1 barring injury.
I'm interested in seeing Boller in the new offense which should be a lot less predictable and show a few more pass routes than the simple button hook.
From what I have seen of Flacco, he has a quck release and is very accurate, especially on passes of 20+ yards, something Boller has not shown, and I expect to see many more 20+ yard patterns this year.
As for who was the QB to draft, only time can give us that answer...too many 'can't miss' QB's, miss and Roethelsberger showed you don't need to come from a big school to be successful.
Let's also not forget that Rich Gannon had a pretty good career and he went to Delaware.
Posted by: Ed D | May 3, 2008 5:03 AM
How about Steve Young? He was pretty mobile.
Posted by: chris jones | May 3, 2008 8:53 AM
Jeff, when did you get out of the mental ward?
Posted by: Doc Kearns | May 3, 2008 9:19 AM
Johnny Unitas didn't exactly come from a football powerhouse when he joined the Colts. I think he was playing for the Bloomfield Rams at the time, and the word was that they were a three point favorite to beat the Saint Jude School for Unwed Mothers. Come on..............

In an interview with Anita Marks, Tony Pashos; former lineman for the Ravens who left via free agency had said that, "Brian's offense is genius. It is a great offense. He just doesn't have the players intelligent enough to run it."
So maybe why you were seeing such a dumbed down offense is because the players were too stupid to do anything better. When Fassell came in to try to run something different, you saw how horribly that went. The blocking went to crud, receivers running wrong routes, etc.
Now you've got an extremely young offensive line, a on again off again starter in Boller and a rookie short QB in Troy Smith, the same set of receivers and you think this offense is going to be a lot different? Not yet, not this season, but perhaps in another year or two.

I have been telling everybody on here for the last 3 years that Phil Savage was the brain in that war room.Wake up everybody and see what he has done with the browns in a very short period of time. Ozzie you made your reputation on phil savage and please people stop being so naive as to was running thisa show and making all tthe right moves. Our drat stunk again thsi year.In order to be a good team in the NFL nowadays you need 2 stud offensive tackles, 2 good cornerbacks. a center that can make the correct line calls and a QB that can mage the game and not turn the ball over. Now tell me how do the ravens stack up against that. No tackles, 2 old, injuryprone and over the hill corner backs, and no QB.The browns have passed us all by and they will be good as long as PHIL SAVAGE IS MAKING ALL THE CALLS>
Posted by: bob lancione | May 3, 2008 2:23 PM
Bob you're a window licker. Savage is a vulture who scooped up Ravens rejects. It sure does shows real genius when you can let someone else do the work and then reap the reward from it. Savage is an opportunist who fed off of Ozzie's hard work and to imply otherwise is beyond naive. It's obvious you're a closet Brown Eye fan.
Posted by: Ravens | May 3, 2008 4:22 PM
bob, how can you say that? Our draft last year was excellent i thought as well as the one before when he drafted nagta. i think savage is good too, but don't take anything away from ozzie
Posted by: jj | May 3, 2008 9:19 PM
hey ravens you don't have a clue what your talking about. You know just like md basketball fans that worship gary williams no matter what, they do .you can't change there thoughts about anything. Same with ozzie if you think phil savage wasn't the brains behind all those good drafts then you are even more naive then i thought. I am not a browns fan by any measure, but i am when i see a team improve drastically since Phil Savage arrived on the scene then you make a determination as to why.
Posted by: bob lancione | May 3, 2008 9:49 PM
Hey, perhaps someone can refresh my memory: who did the browns lose to in the first round of the playoffs again?
Oh snap that's right, they didn't MAKE the playoffs. One year does not a career make - the verdict's still out on Phil and his run as the stain's GM.
Posted by: Lloyd | May 4, 2008 3:47 AM
Buul crap if you don't see that the browns are a vastly improved team then you are watching games with blinkers on. No body wants to ever hear the truth about anything especially when it comes at the expense of the home team. Just please be a all around sports fans and not homers and tell it like it is and not the way you want to hear things. Outside of nagata tell me who has contributed in the last 2 years on this team. They thought landry was going to be good but found out that his coverage skills are horrible. Take a look at this years draft and see that they drafted 2 safties. what does that tell you. Look at the corner backs he drated they couldn't cover a high school receiver. Terry is a bust out so please refresh my memory and tell me who he has drafted that has contributed.
Posted by: bob lancione | May 4, 2008 3:54 PM
LOL. This is pretty typical for Baltimoron fans. The blog is about Sypniewski, and there isn't really one post that deals with him or the injury. BRILLIANT!
Anyway...the Ravens better have some contingency plan at TE because we're not even through minicamps yet, and Wilcox is already sitting out with a toe injury.
Posted by: skaybaltimore | May 5, 2008 8:16 AM
poor liitle Skay cant stand the truth ..the obvious truth....it's ok buddy.... just keep on holding on to your pipe dreams...... you dont have to be realistic to be a fan...enjoy the unnecessary fall below mediocrity.. when a few obvious non political decisions could have propelled the team into a higher level of competitiveness and allowed them to actually win more than 5 games this year,....I understand..... when you've insulated yourself in nonstop fantasy commentary based on your hopes and how your heart feels..... the truth hurts.....dont stop believin.......

This whole "knock Flacco because he's from a double A school" thing has me really, really confused.
Based on some of the opinions here, half of you would have never let Johnny Unitas step on the field. As I recall, George Shaw went to....you guessed it, the U of Oregon. The Colts had taken Unitas under contract after he had been cut by the Steelers. Well, as providence would have it, Shaw broke a leg, Weeb put in Johnny....and the Man from Louisville became a legend.
My point is, you can spout statistics till you're blue in the face, but truly great athletes have an intangible quality that can't BE taught. It's one thing to have physical skills, but it's quite another to have that drive to win any way you can and the savvy to use it when the chips are down and it all turns on you.
Personally, I think Flacco has that quality. I can't lay my finger on it, but there's something about him that makes me think that way
Like it or not, we're all gonna find out.
Posted by: Larry | May 6, 2008 8:15 PM
What the hell is rob talking about? Skay was right on about no one talking about Sypniewski and you are blabbering about nothing. You're right skay, nothing but a bunch of idiot fans.
