Freddie Mitchell works out for Ravens
The Ravens today worked out free-agent wide receiver Freddie Mitchell, who has not caught a pass in the NFL since 2004.
Mitchell, 29, who was a 2001 first-round pick by the Philadelphia Eagles, made 90 catches for 1,263 yards and five touchdowns in four seasons.
The Ravens return their top three receivers from last season -- Derrick Mason, Mark Clayton and Demetrius Williams -- and added Marcus Smith (fourth round) and Justin Harper (seventh round) in the draft.
Williams (Achilles' tendon) did not practice in this week’s passing camp.

This can't be more than a sniff. FredEx is a d-bag, a real clubhouse cancer. Pairing that guy with one of *our* QBs? The prospect is laughable.

I will lose all respect for Ozzie Newsome if Freddie Mitchell is on this team

To quote Bill Belicheat regarding FredEx: "All he does is talk. He's terrible, and you can print that. I was happy when he was in the game."

For the love of God please no, I don't care how he looks in a work out, I don't care if he's in better shape than T.O. on his best day or if he looks better than Randy Moss in his rookie season - he's Freddie Mitchell. Sometimes, that's all you need to know. The fact that he was even brought in for a workout caused me to lose a little bit of respect for the guys in the front office, who I have defended on these forums countless times. Again, he's Freddie Mitchell for crying out loud.

Freddie Mitchell....thats absurd. I wish the FO would emphasize WR's a little more on draft day. Not only has Oz failed to reel in a franchise QB, he has failed to bring in someone who can consistently stretch the field & spread out defenses. WR's are crucial to any offense. We seemed to have missed that memo.

Why not Charles Rodgers if you are going to pick up a washed up, never made it in the NFL wideout. All I remember about Freddie Mitchell is a lot of stupid comments he made when he was on the Eagles.

Alright, who's his friend on the team who got him the "do my buddy a favor" workout?

WTH is going on with this move? Mitchell is a total loser.

Those two comments are laughable Its really not that serious.

If adding a 4th or 5th string WR to the camp competition is enough for you to lose all respect for Ozzie Newsome, you are an idiot who lacks respect for anything.
I would like to thank Freddie Mitchel for hours of entertainment, on and off the feild. His hands were at one time great, perhaps he has gotten his head right.
Who cares who they bring in for a workout? If they give him a 10 million dollar signng bonus then you can lose some more self respect, respect greatness, and comedy.

Not sure what Freddie's done since '04 besides workout and fail to make other teams (Cowboys, Browns), but I'm a proponent of change in people. This guy used to walk and quack like a duck, and was found to be a duck.
He may have had some eye opening experience... some change of heart... who knows?
I do know that I remember that he came through in the clutch on gameday (despite his primadona attitude) on several occasions. If he has speed, leaping ability, and hands AND he has learned to keep his mouth shut, he deserves as much of a chance as anybody else.
You never know, several years off the NFL gravy train may have humbled the guy.

Well i gotta tell you.. I am an eagles fan. When we had Freddie on our team... well he did have a mouth on him, and he did wear oven mits to protect "god's greatest gift" but man... that guy could jump, hand great hands, fast, and was not scared to take a hit. Maybe it's time he got a shot with the NFL again. And if you look at his stats the year the Eagles went to the Superbowl with him and T.O..... well he had a longer yards average, completion percent than TO. not to mention had the longest pass reception that year, and this is also the guy that got the "4'th and 26" play and was smacked by 3 packers and did not drop the ball. Man i love him, but not his mouth. Your team should be giving him a shot, and who knows, it might be for the best.

I really don't see the harm in this move at this point, you never know, it could turn out well. What we really need is to find a TE.

Check out my blog (site addresss above) on the Ravens for SportsBlogs Nation (www.sbnation.com). I have an interview with the Ravens' 4th round draft pick, WR Marcus Smith (New Mexico) who caught 91 (yes, 91, not a typo!) passes last year. It will be posted sometime next week. Check it out. He will be a much better addition than big mouth Freddie Mitchell.

IF BY ANY CHANCE FREDDIE MITCHELL CAN SHOW HE'S WORTHY AND CAN GARNER THE TEAMS EYES THEN WHY NOT. THE RAVENS AS WITH MOST NFL FRANCHISES AND MOST PEOPLE HAVE HONORED THE BASIC PRINCIPLES OF HUMANITY AND SECOND CHANCES. I ONLY HOPE AS FANS WE CAN AS WELL.

Give Freddie Mitchell a break Baltimore because he might give us a much needed spark at wide reciver! He could make an awsome return guy too! Just because a person has had some rough breaks in other places don't judge him! We have players that can help bring him back to reality when he steps out of line! He did alot for the Eagles and whey should we not expect the same thing from him here! Just give him a chance that is more than TO did for the Ravens!
