Harbaugh update
Correcting my previous post, John Harbaugh has already arrived at the team's headquarters in Owings Mills. The Philadelphia Eagles secondary coach was driven to the complex about 9 a.m. today and is expected to interview with the search committee until late afternoon.
Also, general manager Ozzie Newsome is here. He returned from Houston yesterday after watching college prospects practice for the East-West Shrine Game.

Anyone else like me think that the reason Harbaugh was not in for an interview yesterday was because Ozzie was not in town? Maese's column today indicates that he thinks the Ravens were full of it by saying Harbaugh was the backup because they did not have him in for an interview the moment Garrett turned them down. It seems to me that if your GM is not in town because he is preparing for the draft, you can wait ONE DAY to schedule an interview. That is what they did. Wake me up when they hire a coach. All the speculation is driving me insane!

Hi Ed, thanks for that update! So, what do they have on the buffet over there today?

Thanks for the update. Do you know if his wife and daughter are also in town today? That might be a telling insight into the Ravens intentions.

A pretty boy new age management style hire. In Harbaugh we’d be hiring a special teams coach with one year of defensive backs coaching. Never a head coach, not a coordinator. It’s like promoting a Captain to be General. Absolutely not enough experience. When you hire the guy that gives the great interview in the end all you have hired is a great interviewer. Tony Dungy did not interview well but is a great coach. This hire may help PR but there’s little chance it would turn the Ravens into winners. Bisciotti is going to ruin the Ravens. We should hire Schottenheimer, a proven winner with head coaching experience. He has the ability and authority to put our prima-donna crybaby players in line. Then in several successful years we would have a chance at a Kirk Ferenz or maybe a Bill Cowher. Instead we want to hire in over his head and failure all because he interviews well.

Can someone tell me what makes Harbaugh so great? Is he bringing his brother to take over for Boller or somethin? And why isn't Rex getting a shot? Why?

Marty is a dinosaur who has never won anything past the regular season. Is it everybody's fault but his that his teams never do well in the playoffs?
Rex will make a good coach but the hiring of a coordinator as head coach of the same team he was coordinator on almost never works. Look through the results of the times that happened and you will realize the incredible failure rate.
The players love the coordinator because he coaches only them. He has their back and is their confidante in situations where a head coach has to be their boss. The dynamic changes and the players inherently resent the change. Sam Perlozzo, as a poor example, is a very good coach and his players love him but when he mde the transition to manager they felt he was now 'distant' from the players. He had to be because the manager can't be your best friend. Its like a favorite uncle suddenly becoming your dad. Do you think he would tell you to blow off your homework, eat ice cream for dinner and stay up late during the week if he was now trying to raise you?
Hire Harbaugh and lets get ready for the draft.
