Ogden's plans
Just because the Ravens fired head coach Brian Billick doesn't mean Pro Bowl LT Jonathan Ogden is definitely coming back. Ogden said this afternoon he will still consider retirement, and is now even more unsure about returning because of the uncertainty of the coaching staff.
"When you play 13 years, you want to know about training camp and how many offseason camps you have to attend," said Ogden. "But I will definitely look at the situation."
Ogden never liked Billick's play-calling, and that was one of the major reasons he has considered retirement the past two seasons.
• It's getting harder and harder to trust team Web sites. For the past couple of weeks, the Ravens have been putting out that Billick's job was safe and he would return for another season. The Ravens even applauded other reporters who accepted and published their spin.
I wonder what those reporters are thinking now. Were they misinformed intentionally by someone with the Ravens, or someone who just isn't in the know?

Mike,
Very honestly, did you have any notion that this might happen today?

I hope Jonathan comes back. Even as he ages, he is one of the best and allows the Ravens to draft in other places. A new coach, maybe Rex Ryan or Bill Cohwer, should give us discipline and return the Ravens to their glory! Our defense will excel once the players heal and with a new offensive plan our offense will flourish as well.

I knew that the vote of confidence for Billick's job a few weeks ago was just a way to let the season end drama-free. Last year, Marty Shottenheimer was told his job was safe, and then was fired a week later. This team underperformed and Bisciotti is too good of a business man to have kept Billick around. You never believe anything you hear in the NFL, because in the end, seeing is believing, isn't it?

A little bird told me years ago. Believe NONE of the things you hear and half the things you see, maybe the reporters who have so-called resources ought to reconsider.

I would love to see Ogden come back for another year, but only if he's healthy. He has been such a great player for the Ravens, and it would be a shame for him to go out after the frustrations of this past season.
Mike, Do you have any sense of what Ogden's plans for retirement are? It would seem to me that he would make a great offensive line coach and eventually offensive coordinator.

i love the ravens no matter what the record and i think if big J.O retires they should bring him back as offensive coordinator. see what happens

This doesn't sound like the Ogden you write about. I don't think he is shy about his opinions.
Offensive tackle Jonathan Ogden: “I think we were behind him. I think just that fact that the way this team held together when we were fighting through a lot of injuries and we weren’t playing great football, I think we held together, and I think that was one of his strongest assets as a coach. He was able to keep the team cohesive and as a unit and keep us working towards the same common goal. He didn’t always succeed, but we never frayed in the locker room. I think that was one of his best strengths as a head coach.”

To be honest with you i think it is the time for him to retire. He will be a first ballot hall of fame member , but if the truth be known he is part of the reason why this team had such a terrible year. He held the ravens hostige all winter with his toe injury , instead of just getting it operated on. He the ravens knew he was going to retire they might have made a different choice in the draft and in free agency. Players like him and bart scott that are making comments that they won't tolerate a strict coach who will require them to work hard during training camp is what is wrong with this team. Good riddens to all of them and good luck.
