« Ravens-'Skins | Main | Olson's departure not a surprise »

August 27, 2007

Monday: Off the field

The Ravens don't have to get down to the 75-player maximum until tomorrow, but there were several players missing from today's portion of practice open to the media, and the most glaring absence was quarterback Drew Olson. Olson was battling rookie fifth-round draft pick Troy Smith for the No. 3 position.

Other players thought to be on the bubble who were missing from practice were punter Brendan Carney, running back Greg Pruitt Jr., safety Bobby Blackshire, cornerback Terrell Maze and long snapper Nick Leeson.

Free safety Ed Reed (thigh contusion), wide receiver Mark Clayton (sprained ankle), linebacker Antwan Barnes (swollen ankle), running back P.J. Daniels (tweaked hamstring) and offensive tackle Steve Edwards (torn meniscus) were absent. Tight end Daniel Wilcox (sprained ankle) and rookie linebacker Prescott Burgess (concussion and shoulder) did take part in practice, while cornerback Samari Rolle (sprained ankle) ran sprints on his own in the end zone.

this is the year !!!!!!!!! woohooooooo !!!!!!!!
Super Bowl or bust !!!!!!!!!!!!

Why would they cut Olsen so early? Is this a sign that maybe they will cut Smith also and go with two QBs? I dont understand their handling of QBs a lot of times. I hated when they tried to push Derek Anderson through waivers and now Olsen. I am sure someone will give this kid a chance, he records at a big time school and he has the intangibles to play at this level.

I think the Ravens went with the popular choice and they may wind up regretting it. Phil Savage probably already has his signing pen out.

The Ravens are going down the tubes when it comes to QB's, and that translates into a poor team. Jeff Sagarin has the Ravens rated behind Pittsburgh and Cincinnatti, and not far ahead of Cleveland. I'm talking about in the lower half of the entire NFL. I agree with him - how can we keep Kyle Boller, who we know is a free agent after this season and a proven loser. Better to build for the future, keep both youngsters and let Kyle go now. Typical dumb Raven's QB move. McNair goes down, we're back to "fumbles" Boller and the rookie in the wings had a QB rating almost 80 points lower than the guy we let go. Go figure !!!

Oh my God, here we go again with the QB complaints. Derek Anderson can't even beat out Charlier frickin' Frye ok? Drew Olson is not NFL caliber, get over it.

ravens suck mcaghee stinks mcerror sux oline stinks ogden should be cut and mason is 50 were not goin nowhere sorry ray lewis ull prob get screwed next by ozzy newsome and bisscotti i call bring back modell atleast he knew what he was doing phil savage was nothing he just beats us to the punch every darn time and were left with nothing but reed and ray thats about all

Macadamia, you're nuts! ;-) Olson will play in the NFL! His time will come. The Ravens have are a dichotomy, their picks are superb nearly everywhere but the QB position. I think one, perhaps both of these young guys will play a lot, down the road. So far Olson has been the better of the two.

mcneil sounds like a cleveland fan! futile vernacular! get a life teddy boy, find a different blog!
