Still not on radar for Daunte

Once considered the front-runners, the Jacksonville Jaguars are apparently out of the running for recently released quarterback Daunte Culpepper.

On his radio show, Jaguars head coach Jack Del Rio told listeners that his "gut" said it's not going to be a good fit for the team.

But don't jump to conclusions, Ravens fans.

I don't see Culpepper being a good fit with the Ravens, either. The Ravens' coaching and personnel staff is happy with Steve McNair and Kyle Boller as the top two quarterbacks. All the Ravens could offer would be the No. 3 job, something Culpepper is not likely to take.

So the national media can still try to link the Ravens to Culpepper, but I'm not buying it. I have heard nothing from the Ravens' organization to think this is going to happen. Don't expect Culpepper to be wearing purple anytime soon.

What am i missing something here? why in the name of Jehovah would the Ravens be happier with Kyle Boller over Daunte Culpepper?

Good! It'll be interesting to see how Troy Smith develops and who will challenge him next season for a backup role or maybe more??

My initial reaction to the Ravens passing on Culpepper is surprise. Why not have a QB with his credentials in camp? Hensley makes a great point that DC won't come here to be #3, and who needs the aggravation?

Baltimore seems to always make the right moves when it comes to situations like this, so I say "pass."

Ravens don't need Culpepper anyway. Outside McNair and Boller, The 3rd QB Olson or Smith will be good 3rd stringers and can learn while Culpepper would come in and disrupt chemistry by sulking thru the season. Besides who needs an overrated overweight QB who doesnt know the meaning of conditioning.

Culpepper has been nothing since he lost Randy Moss in Minnesota. I don't know that I would ever consider him a top flight QB much less a good QB. I may give him an opportunity to compete for the starting role after McNair retires but would not give him a big contract until he earns it on the fied.

Well i understand your point about having him as a 3rd QB- but, we have to look for the future and looking into next year Boller will be a free agent, Mcnair another year older and slower and then there you have Culpepper!! I think it would be a perfect fit, maybe not this year but why not groom him for next year

By saying "don't expect Culpepper to be wearing purple any time soon" do you mean the Vikings aren't interested in taking him back either?!? Just kidding- I agree, he is not a good fit, considering he would most likely be taking Troy Smith's roster space, and there isn't any reason that the Ravens should not let the Heisman winner have his fair shot. That said, Culpepper will view himself as a starter, and wont settle for #3- or really for anything less than a shot at being the starter.
My guesses:
-Atlanta
-Oaktown (1-2 yr mentor of Russell)
MAYBE Detroit, Washington or the Jets as a possible competitor for #1.

I think he could be 2nd string behind Mcnair. Personally Boller hasn't done anything as a starter but give him props he was thrown in the mix as a rookie. Culpepper could be a good backup but face it, if we do sign him he would be good for about 3 years at max.

I totally agree. The Baltimore Ravens have their three quarterbacks set with the recent signing of Draft choice Troy Smith. Once more, Dante Culpepper will not be an upgrade from Steve McNair. It would be difficult to pin him as a number, because of the time it would take for him to learn our offensive system which all of the offense is dealing with in changes(hopefully). Dante has still yet to prove that he is over this injury. It would be in the Ravens best interest to concern themselves more with keeping the nucleus that they currently have in a smooth and comfortable financial commitment for years to come as they have done a great job of so far.

Why not try to trade Boller to the Falcons and pick up Culpeper as backup

I agree with Jamison on this one. The Ravens as a team are set for the immediate future with McNair and Boller, Culpepper wouldn't settle as the 3rd man. The team is accustom to both it's #1 & #2 QB's who both performed very well last year and know the system. The young guys, Smith and Olsen are both players with a lot of heart and have sustained records of achievment. We're better off now than we've been in a long time, lets focus on filling the left tackle spot for the future and be patience with the QB position for a change.

I agree that we don't need him immediately. But I think signing him as the second QB would be a good idea. I don't think Kyle Boller is going to stay with the Ravens after this season. With the luck we have had drafting offensive play-makers I would think it would be a smart idea to have Daunte as Steve McNair's backup. Also with Steve we never know when he is going to get injured.

If the price is right I say grab him. Ravens may have issues at QB after this year. Depends on how McNair holds up. At a good price I say pay him and put him on inactive list for a year. Then give him a chance to compete next year. After this year McNair is older and more injury prone, who's our #2 --Troy Smith- who will take practice squad reps this year? Ozzie has always made moves not for team chemistry (see T.O.), but if the deal is right, to upgrade talent. Also I say half way thru the year make Troy Smith the back up so he gets more reps in practice.

Culpepper is done....only has one leg.....can't party on land....has bad lawyer........our Q-Back situation is really good for once, because we our finally upgrading instead of patchworking our OL.Lets let one of our AFC rivals pick him up so we can use him for target practice for our defense........Undefeated 2007.....
