Yamon Figurs
Yamon Figurs is an intriguing third-round pick. The guy is a burner and has the speed to score every time he touches the ball. He has excellent acceleration. The knock on Figurs is that he is raw and needs some toughness. He also has been known to drop some balls, which is usually the problem with most speedsters (Remember Patrick Johnson?). But he could become a factor because he returns punts and kicks. If B.J. Sams doesn't fully recover from a broken ankle a year ago, Figurs could become the guy to replace Sams. When Sams went down last season, his absence caused big problems for the Ravens. At least they found a possible replacement in the draft.
I do have one question. Figurs' nickname is Yo. What's up with that, yo?

Comments
My one question is: Why did the Ravens draft Yamon in the third round when it looks like he couldve been taken on day two? From what I've read on this guy he's simply a one dimensional return specialist that won't contribute on offense. This doesnt seem like a sound Ravens type pick. Taking a return specialist in the third round is somewhat amateur. Now, this obviously isn't as bad as Miami reaching for Ginn at #9, but I just don't see the logic in taking Yamon this early.

BJ must B damaged... but didnt they resign him?
Let him run back punts/kicks and send him long every once in a while to open up the other guys down low. he could be the next Jermaine Lewis.
His first muffed punt? It Figurs!

Why not trade this pick to Oakland for Moss? Bad decision to spend a 3rd rounder on a returner. Bad move.

You actually think Randy Moss would fit on this team? If Moss was a Raven, he'd have quit playing or have been suspended by Week 6.
Moss would be about as good a fit as Terrel Owens would have been had he actually come to Baltimore.

This struck me as the strangest pick of the entire draft for the Ravens. I hope Figurs doesn't end up being one of those types who dazzle everybody at the combine to the extent that they end up ignoring what he did -- and/or didn't do -- in college. I agree with another poster on the Ravens board that Figurs will be a "boom/bust" kind of player. I'm more than willing to see what he can do, but personally, I would have rather seen them take Johnnie Lee Higgins from UTEP. Higgins was also a returner, but he is a better receiver. He is not quite as fast as Figurs, but what difference does that little bit of extra speed mean if you can't hold onto the ball? But having said that, I'm eager to see what Yamon can do. (Yamon can cook?!) LOL

Not certain, but i feel quite confident that the University of Texas is NOT on the Ravens' schedule in 2007, so who cares about that lone highlight?... I think it was a silly pick, and the team would have been better-served taking Stanford QB Trent Edwards.

In Ozzie I trust. I also was very puzzled by this pick but the kid has size and great speed and may be worth the gamble (if nothing else) to open things up a little and clear the lane for Heap while also doing some kick and punt returns. It's a gamble, yes, but aren't most of the picks?

When I first heard we drafted a return specialist in the 3rd round, I admit I was shocked. I thought it was a waste of a pick and we could have got him in a much later round. This is when I knew nothing about this guy. He has highlights all over the internet. His nickname from his teammates at Kansas St. is "playmaker". He had the fastest 40 time in the entire combine and was the second best retun man in the draft. He can catch and burn any cornerback on the field. He even declaired smoking Devin Hester in a high school track meet years back. I immediately began to appriciate his talents once I saw them. He will give us great feild position, which will help out the offense. I think he will even return a few for TDs. Watch his speed on this Video clip and you'll see what I'm talking about.

Some say he may be the poor mans ted ginn but if you put him on ohio state he may have been the #9 pick.I dont think it was to bad of a pick if you put him in the slot there will be major matchup problems Oh and the 4.3 he ran at the combine that was aslow time for him he has been clocked in the low 4.2s in the past.

You guys are all nuts. Figurs is a human rocketship. Don't you remember what Jermaine Lewis did for the Ravens? What would the Bears have been without Devin Hester last year? Bottom line, Ravens don't have many holes, so they had the luxury of drafting a dynamic special teams player on Day One -- more power to 'em. If I thought any of you shut-ins who post messages here actually attended the Ravens games, I'd predict that in a few months you'd be jumping up and down and hugging the stranger in the seat next to you as Figurs was streaking down the sidelines and blowing by would-be tacklers. But I guarantee you'll at least spill your Cheetos when you jump up from your couch. Cheer up, people!
