Sears

Tennessee offensive tackle/guard Arron Sears is expected to visit the Ravens Wednesday. Sears has the potential to be a first-round draft pick, and was on the All-SEC team last season. - Mike Preston

Is Sears visiting because the Ravens feel there's a chance they can draft him? Will Blaylock from Texas be visiting?

Thats good news, I do like Sears as a powerful guard, though I believe Blaylock is more tenacious and nasty. We need linemen with a meanstreak attitude that can come in a blowup defenders now, I believe that Sears and Blaylock can give us just that, they are both identical in height, and size but I think that Blaylock is probably the strongest Linemen out of all the first round contenders.

Aaron Sears would be a great pick for the Ravens as he is very versatile and can play tackle and guard. In the NFL he will be well suited to play guard because he is not quick enough to pick up edge rushers and Baltimore plays the Steelers and Browns twice (so thats four games at least against edge rushers) and so if he would switch to guard he would be like the Eagles Shawn Andrews because he has great power and can neutralize blitzes and stunts with his great overall body strength.

I still believe if the Ravens have the oportunity and he is still on the board the Ravens should select Joe Staley in the first round. Staley is a great Left tackle (Sears is also a Left Tackle and he is a natural tackle unlike Staley but Sears has played both guard and tackle at Tenn) with great quickness (he played tight end and came to the school at 215 pounds and now is leaving at 302) and drives defenders out of the way with his great lower body strength. Now I mention lower body strength because the upper body is good and he has average upper body strength but he has room to improve.

So, Joe Staley is the choice if he is still on the board (he is projected to be the third best tackle in the draft) but if not Aaron sears would fit the Ravens perfectly because of his versatility and his leadership abilities.

I don't think Ozzie & Co. use top picks on interior linemen like Sears and Auburn's Grubbs. Staley won't be there, so i'd guess they'd look at Texas' Blaylock. I'd kinda like to see them trade out of the 1st to re-coup that 3rd round choice they gave up for McGahee.

Based on the Ravens' '07 schedule and the play of one Samari "Egg" Rolle, they need a DB in the first round. Ozzie has had great success with picking DBs and I have no doubt he'd find another gem at the end of the first round. The schedule is going to be brutal this year, especially the second half when the Ravens play a lot of pass happy teams. As we saw with Twinkle Toes, once a player's play starts to decline, it's not coming back no matter what he proclaims. If Egg Rolle is still getting torched like he did last year then we're in for a long November and December
