Ravens' third round

The Ravens selected Kansas State wide receiver Yamon Figurs in the third round with the 74th pick overall.  Figurs had the distinction of being the fastest player at the NFL Scouting Combine in February with a 4.30 40-yard dash.  Figurs' most immediate impact will likely be as a return specialist.  He averaged 12.2 yards on punt returns as a senior.  He is not particularly big, though.  He's listed at 5-11 and 175 pounds. Figurs is a key addition with current return man B.J. Sams possibly becoming an unrestricted free agent after next season.

Later in the round, the Ravens traded three second-day picks,  fourth-, fifth- and sixth-rounders (No. 101, No. 166 and No. 203) to Jacksonville for another third-rounder, the 86th overall.  With that selection, they took Iowa guard-tackle Marshal Yanda, a player that could develop into a tackle and more immediately play at guard, GM Ozzie Newsome said.

The Ravens draft a wide receiver who cant catch when they could have had Trent Edwards??......Is Ozzie trying to top the David Pittman pick from last year???

so is BJ that bad? why did they resign him anyway? His leg almost fell off in Cincy

Palko tomorrow?

Not addressing that cavity at QB will be remembered as a huge mistake by the Ravens. Stanford's Trent Edwards was there TWICE, and Baltimore blew it. The team wasted a 3rd round pick on a punt returner named Yamon Figurs? How delusional are they? They think they're that good?!? The Ravens didn't lose to Indy because of the punt return game; they lost because of the quarterback play. And with McNair one year older and Boller still clumsy and worthless, who's going to QB the team in the future?

Agreed. The Figurs pick is probably the worst pick in the draft after Ginn. This was a shocking move by Ozzie. We didn't necessarily need a QB there, but a return specialist? The report on thid guy is that he's a dud reciever. My goodness, BJ Sams was an undrafted free agent! How on earth can the front office justify this pick.

Trent edwards cant stay healthy... hes been hurt since High School... is he all of a sudden going to learn how to stay in shape and no get hurt in the NFL?

Your quarterback of the future isnt supposed to be a marginal 3rd-4th round pick that played well for crappy stanford while hurting everything but his eyebrow in that time...

Look, Trent Edwards is not the guy. He is injury prone, and been knocked around like a rag doll at Stanford when he was in the lineup. And he lost a lot.

Doesn't sound like much of an upgrade on another pac10 qb with loads of potential already on our roster.

Look, I know Trent Edwards got hurt a lot, and that Stanford lost a lot. But isn't is possible that a lot of that was because of the players around him? Look at Troy Smith: he won the Heisman -- and oh yeah! played with TWO 1st-round draft picks at WR. Troy Smith SHOULD have won the Heisman and gotten to Championship games with that talent on his team. I think Yamon Figurs was a reach and will be remembered as a bad pick.

Insight on the Yamon Figurs pick. Who would the Ravens use as a Punt Returner/Kickoff Returner when BJ Sams is suspended by the League for the 2 DUI's? Everyone saw last year how bad the return game was after BJ was out hurt. The team is preparing for when/if BJ is suspended by the league.
