The answer is ...

The question last week was, who do you want running the ball for the Ravens next season?  Forty of you answered (two answers were duplicates). Now, some of the votes might be affected by the item below about who's still on the market and who's not. However, nobody voted for Ahman Green, and Willis McGahee got two votes, so maybe not.

The winner? Jamal Lewis, with nine votes. I thought everybody hated the thought of him coming back? Of course, you could also view the results as saying 31 of you didn't want him back, with two voting, essentially, for "anybody but him.''

In second, a draft pick, any pick (5 1/2 votes). In third, with 4 1/2 votes, Chargers restricted free agent Michael Turner; a lot of respondents said they'd love him if the price of getting him and/or paying him wasn't so high. Mike Anderson got four votes, Musa Smith two, with a voter splitting between him and P.J. Daniels. Also with two votes were Bears free agent Thomas Jones and Penn State's Tony Hunt. (Other rookies suggested: Michael Bush, Garrett Wolfe, Marshawn Lynch.)

Best argument for a single vote-getters was for Priest Holmes, which went against the rules, but came with this justification: "His legs might be very fresh after 1.5 years and no hits.'' True. There is the little matter of his head and neck being the main reasons for sitting out that time; plus, he turns 34 during the season. But the longing for Priest's Ravens days never slows. -David Steele

I think bringin Jamal Lewis back would be a huge mistake. 1. He is not very good anymore. He dances in the backfield. 2. He is not much better if better at all than Mike Anderson. 3. If he does not get the ball 25 times he becomes a cancer in the locker room.

I would rather see the Ravens get Thomas Jones or get a back through the draft.

if I had my choice, i'd take Travis Henry over any other free agent, including Jamal.

With McGahee now reportedly available, the Ravens seriously need to consider him as one of their options. He is a young back that could help this organization for years to come!

MaGahee want one of these new CBA funny money contracts.

The ravens dont' have that sort of space nor are we going to do that kind of contract. If we were going to, we would have done it for Adalius Thomas.

The solution is to bring in a Travis Henry or Chris Brown and draft a young guy. Maybe resign Musa Smith for cheap and see if he can stay healthy.

Jamal is not the solution unless he wants to come on a cheap, incentives laden contract.

Jamal needs to tip-toe somewhere else. He was good while he was here but its over. 2-3 yards up the middle is not going to help us. You always know where he's going. We need someone that is more versatile. Any of the free agents out there right now woild be an upgrade.

The Broncos just signed Travis Henry, so it looks like the Ravens are McGahee's only remaining suitor.

I remain on the McGahee bandwagon. He's got some character issues, but I'd like to think that a strong locker room like ours and a 'player's coach' like Billick could get the most out of McGahee mentally, like they did with the former enigma Chris McAlister.

McGahee is a very talented back. I'm pretty sure he was actually leading the NFL in rushing and 20+ yard runs before he hurt his ribs this past year. He's fairly young. We don't need retreads like Jamal Lewis, Corey Dillon, or LaMont Jordan who can't hit the hole hard enough.

One issue will be run-blocking though. No matter which back we get, we need a capable line blocking for them. Mughelli is gone, I'd like to see us draft LeRon McClain to replace him as the lead blocker. I'm not sold Justin Green is a good enough blocker to fit our offense. He's a good threat out of the backfield catching the ball and an excellent special teamer, but he's not a great lead blocker. Fullback is a very important position for the Ravens offense.

Pashos was a lousy run blocker, so losing him won't really hurt us there. Terry looks like he'll start at RT now that Pashos is gone. He's a subpar run blocker too, but he's got the physical ability to improve. Keydrick Vincent and Mike Flynn are both all-around horrible linemen. Flynn, Vincent, and Pashos made up the worst right side in the NFL last year for running the ball. Chester looked good once he got in, and Jason Brown and Jonathan Ogden are already great run blockers.

We can get McGahee, but it won't matter unless we make sure that right side of our offensive line can block for them. I hated watching Jamal Lewis cut back every time Billick called a run to the right last year.

keep an eye on tony hunt,if he is availlable could be another larry johnson, and he could be cheaper than j.lewis

The Ravens should bring back Jamal. The man has matured very much over the last couple seasons. He played all year last year with bones spurs and never once complained about not getting enough touches until after the playoff loss. I really think he can still be very good and it would be a great story to see a man who helped bring a superbowl to Baltimore do it again. Im rootin for Jamal !

Of the available guys on the market, I'd choose Rhodes... Certainly not Jamal, he's overrated and washed up. I can't handle the thought of watching him stutter step for 2 yard gains again this season. Get rid of him.

i wish everyone would stop bashing jamal! he played hurt last year and stepped it up once billick took over offense. he's still probably got a good 2yrs. left.

" If he does not get the ball 25 times he becomes a cancer in the locker room."

I agree with that, thats the only reason I dont want Jamal back. If he was fine with spiliting time then I would say yes get him.

I think Corey Dillion would be awesome, but maybe he would say the same thing if he didnt get 25 carries a game. Its the reason he left the PATS.

magahee would be a nice option if he and his agent weren't trying to immediately get a Clinton Portis type contract.

I don't know what our cap situation looks like, but I dont think a new huge RB contract will fit.

If Ogden retires, then we could possible have the space needed for such a deal

So Henry will run for the Broncos.
So McGahee is two years younger than Jamal, and what can we expect from him; in his 3-year he has 3365 yards (3,9), Jamal had at the same age 5-(4)year he had 5763 yards (4.7). Last year jamal had actually a bigger production. So what I am saying; McGahee is okay and average but a future Raven - No Way

Just get McGahee his really good, young, smart, fast, if the ravens dont get him they stupid

No way the Ravens have the cap room for McGahee. The Ravens mantra, right player, right price. If Jamal is available for the right price great, If not, it look's like Smith, Anderson, Daniels, and maybe a draft pick, maybe Hunt. And I can live with that. The Ravens will draft the best player available when their pick comes, regardless of need. It's worked so far.

now that billick has abused and burned the life out of jamal lewis you guys want to bash him,If you had run against 11 guys continuosly youd be tip toeing to
