S. Rolle
Early word from Ravens insider, and a very good one, is that Samari Rolle will be the starting cornerback when training camp opens regardless of any possible draft picks or free agents. After a poor performance last season, the Ravens believed Rolle regained his confidence by the end of the season, and that he was only partially to blame for some of the long balls he gave up. Of course, safety Ed Reed blew several assignments while failing to give Rolle support over the top. I can understand Rolle still being the starter, but I'd have someone challenging him for the starting job as well.

well, i really expected that, the other day i was thinking that the ravens were thinking about putting rolle in the slot, but as free agency went on, no answer were assigned to the cornerback position, but i think Rolle can do a solid job... what about the status of the first round pick of the ravens? are they going to chose a Center?

And he should be the starter !
He may have 'Slowed Down Some', yes/yawn, he MAY have given up a couple big plays, but hey - we´ve had the 'Communication Problem' for a while now, and if No. 20 doesn´t play 'Team', what can Rolle do ? I for one am glad we signed him, just like Mason.
There´s enough competition on the roster (I hope, Mr Pittman)and probably an additional good corner coming from the draft - but anybody´s gonna have to earn it against Rolle and deservedly so I feel.
And we need help: Simply because Cincy deserves the credit : we need QUA-LA-TAY corners and a number of those if we wanna whup 'em, and that´s high on the agenda here hello thats what I THOUGHT !!!

Competition is always good and Rolle should without a doubt be forced to earn his job back. Coverage assignments aside, the bottom line is that he was the one who got burned game after game. And Rolle didn’t look to good in 2005 either ( see the two Bengals games from that season). Competing for playing time often creates a spark in a veteran like Rolle. He’ll work harder in practice and try new things. More importantly though he’ll realize that his time could be limited if his mediocre play carries into this season. And if anyone still thinks that Rolle should be handed the starting job without competition then please see one Boller, Kyle. Brian Billick handed him the starting job in 2003 and the Ravens’ offense took three steps backwards while Boller looked lost and unconfident during his starting stint. Competition is always good.

You have got to be kidding me. Rolle is the most over paid, over rated cornerback of all time. So is his Titan buddy Mcnair. Mason is a crybaby- get rid of all those ex-Titans. It's too bad Billick can't admit the teams weaknesses and address them. Rollles "technique"problem Billick is refering to is called speed. If Mcnair was ever any good (maybe he had one good year) he sure has lost it. If it wasn't for the Raven's defense he wouldn't have won a game. He showed what he was made of verses Indy. Is everyone blind? Mason is still good but he is obviously more concerned about individual stats then the team.

"Of course, safety Ed Reed blew several assignments" - that was huge in Rolle's performance last season. As much as I love Ed Reed, I sure hope that someone - ANYone on the coaching staff can get Ed's attention.

With Rolle, Mason and McNair, the Ravens got the very best of the old Titans. We should just be glad that Ozzie knew when to stop. He didn't try to sign Eddie George.

last time I saw rolle he was keep ing the colts out of the endzone in the playoffs. He is fine, the worst player one the league #1 defense is still better than 2/3 of the league.

DRAFT: Offensive Linemen. We need them badly. No running back will do well with our O-line. MCnair needs some protection also, so he can trow his 6-10 yard patterns.
O-LINE SHOULD BE A PRIORITY, first two picks.
Then look for depth at a QB, cornerback, d-line.
Big question, WHo will replace stover? He cannot kick for ever!

Kevin, youre trippin !
'McNair had one good year'? Ridulous.
We DID get the best of our Titans, at the positions WE HAD NEED. There was no better CB on the market (name one!), there was no better QB who would´ve made sense.
Rolle aint no spring chicken but like Mason is a pro. Mason aint the only one critiqueing the O and he wont be the last.
McNair one good year, dude, please.

Ed Reed needs to be called out more for his failures last season as well... it certainly shouldn't ALL be on Rolle.

Starting in Week 3 against the Browns, Rolle was burned for a big play in every single game (except maybe the last game against Buffalo). He plays 15-20 yards off the line of scrimmage. He is a complete liability with nothing left in the tank, and it's outrageous that we're going to put him on the field again. He might have been the worst CB in the NFL last year.

I´d say the worst corner in the league was whoever is being replaced by Nate Clements - the highest EVER paid cornerback not just in San Francisco but the rest of the world. They clearly had the biggest need, so they must have had the worst cornerback in the league.

I must not have been watching the same games last year. Think back to that Indy debacle: Rolle was FIFTEEN yards off Reggie Wayne on a comeback route! How in the world is that Ed Reed's fault? Rolle was the weak link, and every team went after him. And in 2007, it'll only get worse. I hope the Ravens trade out of the 1st round to re-coup that 3rd round choice they sent to Buffalo.

I think giving rolle some competition wont hurt i mean we drafted Pittman and Martin for a reason but you have to make them take it from him.But if a Leon Hall or Chris Houston fall in the draft I think Samari is hitting the road.

Samari is a very good corner still but at this point in his career he is best suited to the nickleback role. He still is physical with recievers and while that is what I as a raven fan love to see with our corners he still gives up some big plays. I know that people will say that Ed Reed missed assignments last year but he is a ball hawking safety and will give up a few big plays but will make big plays in return so as a corner who is on Ed's side that corner must relize that he will very likely have to play single coverage.
That being said, I think Samari's good years have come and now they are starting to go but he did rebound very nicely in the final half of the season and played well in the playoff game (although only the defense played good in the playoff game and even they started to wear down in that horrible game) but anyways he should be the starter pending a major draft pick that gets us a prime player but he still is a good, reliable veteran who will provide quality starts for the Ravens this year.

Rolle is a veteran who will use his brain to make up for his loss of speed and quickness. Yes, he got picked on last year, but when you have a shutdown corner in Zeus, the quarterback has got to go somewhere with the ball.

Rolle is no longer a starter in my eyes. When you play 5-10 yards off a reciever b/c you fear their speed then you need to step down and let the younger CB take on the task. I am really looking forward to seeing what Jamaine Winborne and Evan olgsby have to bring to the table next season. They both are very hard working corners that need to be used this upcoming season. Reed was in the pro bowl for a reason b/c he made plays. I agree with patrick Rolle played Wayne 10 yrds off on a comeback route in the playoffs. WTF mate!. If Reed missed coverage assignment it was probably b/c somebody (rolle) was set so far back in his coverage area before the snap.

bye bye rolle, 12 million last year ( 06-07 ) how much this year? too much!!!!!!!! so much talent on this team, Ed Reed can only help so much.
