Derrick Mason

Ravens receiver Derrick Mason is a great competitor, but he also has a history of complaining when he isn't getting a lot of passes thrown his way. Mason has only 63 receptions for 720 yards and two touchdowns this season. He hasn't caught a touchdown pass in four games.

Mason had only two catches for 10 yards against Pittsburgh Sunday and he threw the ball up in the air in frustration after catching a short hitch pass.

Mason wants some love.

"Anyone that's been in the league for a long time would want to be more involved in the offense, but when you're not, you've just got to keep moving on," Mason told a room of reporters Wednesday. "Hopefully, one day, you will feel appreciated, whether that's with the current team you're at or someplace else."

Wow, and I actually thought the Ravens were having a great season ...

Why is it always the WR's that are the egomaniacs? Guess the playoffs, a shot at the Super Bowl and a fat paycheck mean nothing.

Perhaps Derrick should try getting open a bit more and revel in the success of the T-E-A-M.

Someone should tell Derrick that his team is kicking butt this year, thats why he isn't getting the ball so much. When your team is routinely up by 10+ points, and the defense is smothering the opposition, the object of the game is to let the air out of the ball. Which is why Jamal Lewis gets 24 carries a game and seldom breaks 80 yards.

A solution? Limit Jamal to 20 carries a game, and give Mason 4 more looks. Hopefully none of those looks will be another one of those McNair ducks that gets tipped but not intercepted...

Well now. Perhaps they should rename the team to the Baltimore Masons. Shut up and play Derrick. I'm starting to not like you.

How disappointing. Grow up Derrick. How about this..."Thank you Derrick! We appreciate you!" You happy now?

I think it's a great thing that we have three receivers with over 60 catches instead of one with 90. Who do you cover with your best corners?

However, the good ones want the ball, and Derrick Mason is a good one. This fan, at least, appreciates what he's done, and the fact that he wants to do more.

I hope he's just frustrated, has gotten it out of his system, and realizes that the balanced number of receptions is probably better for the team.

Oh boy. It's nice to see players put the team before themselves. Me, me, me.

Mason will get his share of balls thrown his way this post season. Mainly because Clayton will now be covered better, after the game changing catches he has had this seaosn. Dematrius Williams hopefully will still not be appreciated from other defenses and have some catches at big times. After the season they have had I would of thought the Veteran would of kept his mouth shut about somethin so selfish as catches and be happy about wins. Yet again, just another case of the Wide Reciever complaining. Hopefully he will have that extra gear for the fact that this could be his last run at a Super Bowl.

Mike, was Mason in his Huggies Pull-Ups when he said that or his training underwear?? I thought Chris McAlister put the I in T-E-A-M but had no idea about ol' boy Mason. What is it with these grown men who like to whine and complain all the damn time. Like T.O. whining about his drops happening because the ball doesn't come his way enough. Is there any accountability left in professional sports? Are there any men left who play the game the way it should be played??

I think that D. Mason has earned the right to be the premier receiver for the Ravens. He is capable of carrying them deep into the playoffs. Maybe the recent big play passes to D. Williams and M. Clayton wouldn't have happened if the opponents weren't guarding Mason and Heap so closely. I see Mason and Heap breaking out on Sunday and during the playoffs. We've waited too long for a decent passing game. Let it roll all the way to the Super Bowl!

mason is a crybaby

Derrick Mason needs to shut up and be a team player. He has never won a Superbowl and you would think he would appreciate the position the team is in. Hopefully the Ravens get rid of him next year. The Ravens should draft a posession 6-4 type WR to replace Mason. I'm tired of his act, he isn't even that great, he is undersized and lacks the speed Mark Clayton posesses. There is going to be a game when McNair is going to depend on Mason. I hope he brings it in the post season.

We are lucky because the #1 corner is constantly on mason and it frees up the other recievers. He has been a major contributor even if he is not getting the ball because there are other mismatches all over the field. He gets paid no matter what and when he gets his first ring he should definantly have no complaints.

I felt bad hearing these comments from Mason. This guy has been a difference maker this season. With Jamal Lewis running for only 1 to 2 yards at a time, the scrappy Mason has consistently hawled in balls on critical third down situations. These are exactly the type of plays that weren't being made last season.

He doesn't have the flash of Williams or Clayton, but he's a seasoned vet who fights hard for those balls and yards after the catch. He was a big part of our success early in the season and continues to take pressure from our other recievers so that they can get their Sportscenter highlights. Here's to hoping he gets some big plays in the playoffs.
