2000 Comparison

After years and years of campaigning, Ravens head coach Brian Billick finally got the message. He is not comparing this year's defense or any other thing to the 2000 Super Bowl season. Over the years, players got tired of hearing from Billick about how the Ravens did things in 2000. They got tired of hearing about the great defense, and the miracle run. A lot of these guys weren't even around. They wanted to establish their own team identity. With Billick downplaying all the questions from the press, these guys now have their own chance to create something special. They respect what happened five or six years ago, but no one likes to live in someone else's shadow.

Here Here..its good to see Mr Billick get the message. Take what you have and devise a plan strictly on what you have and not what you did. I want progress and not memories of yester year. Its like kissing your sister...you get nothing at all from the feeling.

I agree with you Mike. Billick needs to focus on the present and not dwell on things that happened 6 years ago. This team's defense will create its own identity, especially as guys like Ngata and Landry start making strides. To move on to the offense, I dont blame McNair for the poor offensive showing on Sunday. I blame the play calling. As you mentioned in your Q & A section, quick slants and screens were open all day. That would have forced the Raider defense to hold off on the all out rush. Better yet, it would have allowed guys like Clayton to get the ball in their hands and make plays. McNair does show great pocket presence and stays in there till the last second. But there was only so much he could do against an all out blitz. He was forced to throw those tough outs to Heap or the quick dumpoffs to the running backs because he literally had no time to look downfield. The playcalling on Sunday was reminiscent of the Cavanaugh days.

Boy, you're 2-0 Steve will get better, he didn't join the team until June, what did you expect him to light it up this early, no way he must learn his receivers and tight ends, give him at least 5 or 6 games to get it going.. Hey i'm in Nashville, we wish we still had him, give us Steve and you take Kerry Colins..

That is the most rediculous statement you have made in a while. So the present group does not care about the history and traditions of past teams. If that is so, then why don't they just stop whineing and go get a real life. What a bunch of losers the present day athelete has become and they are encouraged in this by people like you. I douibt you are concious of nor care about the rich tradition of the paper who pays you. What a loss for you.

Big question.Who have they played?

I'm happy, but guarded about the 2-0 start. They have yet to be really tested. The Browns are not in the class of the Ravens, but with rivalry games you never know. This isn't the 2000 Ravens regardless of how they look. This offense has the potential to actually look like a NFL offense while in 2000 we just hoped they wouldn't hurt the defense. This defense also has a much more aggressive secondary, but lacks the tandem of the Goose and big Sam Adams. Ngata looked wonderful, but again they just haven't been tested. The only real comparison to the 2000 Ravens will come if they win the Superbowl then we can look back and compare which team was better. I'm looking forward to the division games against Cinnci and the steelers to see how thye hold up against an elite team.

Um, LEWESJIM spelling errors aside, did you even read Mike's blog? He didn't say a word about them NOT CARING. He said they were GETTING TIRED of an old message. Read before you write.

And so they did, having their own destiny!
