Will the Orioles make any significant moves this week?

We conclude our five-part look at the biggest questions facing new executive vice president of baseball operations Dan Duquette and the Orioles heading into the winter meetings.

So, bottom line, will the Orioles make any significant moves this week?

We'll let Duquette take a stab at that one.

“I certainly hope we are able to add to the club this week, but the market has been slow developing in recent years,” he said. “Before, free agents traditionally liked to choose their new teams before the holidays. The last several years, that's not been the case.

“But, having said that, I'd sure like to add some players this week.”

A more fitting title to the article would be "will the Orioles make any significant moves ... ever?

lenny sakata is avaliable

the Orioles are a joke i doubt they will ever make a significant move. Peter Angelos has ruined one of the jewls of Baltimore. People can say whatever they want about his willingness to spend and blame the front office for over a decade of ineptitude however hes allowed this to take place under his ownership. Untill the Orioles are sold they will never again be a competitive team

I love the emphasis being placed on getting international talent. I believe they have some particular players they want whether they can get them or not is the key to getting better. Do not downgrade the 6yr. minor FA or non tenders coming up. Some one hits on some of them every year no reason it can't be the O's and their new aggressive approach. I believe Buck knows how to get the best out of what he is given.. And I believe you can fill the holes we need to (bench and bull pen) from those sources. 3B and SP are more need to give up something to get back

Is Pedro Florimon any loss to us, or is the sentiment that a 24-yr old AA prospect is not that much of a prospect?

About the bloggers
A Baltimore native, Dan Connolly has been covering sports for 14 years, and baseball and the Orioles for 10 seasons, including the past six with The Sun. His first year covering baseball on a daily basis was Cal Ripken Jr.'s final season as a player. It's believed that is just a coincidence.

Steve Gould is an assistant sports editor for The Sun, overseeing Orioles coverage. The Columbia native joined The Sun as a sports copy editor in 2006 after graduating from the University of Maryland.

Peter Schmuck has been covering baseball for a lot longer than Steve Gould has been on this earth. He is now a general sports columnist, but has been a beat writer covering three major league teams (the Dodgers, Angels and Orioles) and also spent a decade as the Sun's national baseball writer. If you want more of his insight on the Orioles and other sports issues, check out his personal blog -- The Schmuck Stops Here.
