LaCava turns down Orioles

According to an industry source, Toronto assistant general manager Tony LaCava has turned down the Orioles' offer to become the club’s next general manager.

LaCava met with the club Monday, his second time interviewing, and was offered the job Tuesday.

The Orioles have also interviewed Jerry Dipoto, then of the Arizona Diamondbacks, who has since taken the GM job with the Los Angeles Angels; Los Angeles Dodgers assistant GM De Jon Watson; and Orioles development director John Stockstill.

So much for that "there are only 30 GM jobs so despite all of the BS, someone will take the O's job" sentiment.

This stinks of Angelos's meddling. LaCava is in town meeting with Angelos, and the news that comes out of that meeting is that LaCava doesn't want the job? I would bet my salary that Angelos wasn't willing to give LaCava the kind of control he was looking for.

And the new GM of the Baltimore Orioles is... JOHN STOCKSTILL!

This should tell you everything you need to know about Peter Angelos and his Baltimore Orioles.

Baltimore needs to OccupytheOrioles

This is just pathetic. Things have gone from bad to worse in Birdtown. People who interview for MLB GM job usually don't turn down said job when it's offered to them. What could have happened?

Embarrassing for the club if this is true. Not sure why he would go through all of the interviews and meetings if he wasn't really interested in the job.

Did his meeting with Angelos change his mind?

At this point, I would be surprised if they go with Watson or Stockstill. I think it's back to the drawing board. Maybe Levine gets an interview.

Hahaha. Wouldn't that be hilarious if Angelos couldn't even hire a GM. There is so much that could be read into this LaCava denial of the O's. The O's can't even retain or acquire the great GMs out there. Maybe this is the sign I've been waiting for to leave this organization as a baseball fan. This speaks volumes as LaCava couldn't even get along with or thought he wouldn't have enough financial resources and/or would get enough salary or would have enough leeway to make the necessary player acquisitions to get the O's to contention. This is an embarrassment that I'm sure Ken Rosenthal enjoyed reporting. The great McPhail has resigned and LaCava had denied for a reason and it's not hard to believe why. Just ask Angelos!

What a damn joke of an organization. The Ravens and Orioles should be renamed Right and Wrong, respectively, because that's how each are run. The Orioles probably offered LaCava a teacher's salary.

What a surprise ! It appears Buck will run the team & only wants a secretary! Why not just name Buck & get a secretary for field manager?

As a long time O's fan an season ticket holder, I believe I'm done with this organization. They move so damn slow and seem to not even have a clue. Look at the Angels they interviewed how many? Like 7 people for their GM spot and they made a decision last week, and here we are 2 and half weeks in with only interviewing 4 people and one turns it down. What does that tell you. Someone who has never been a GM and wants to be a GM so bad and he turns it down. The GM candidates have the same feelings as free agents do they just don't want to come here we STINK! Thanks for Mcphail waiting until the last minute to put us behind the eight ball. And I disagree with saying it didn't have anything to do with Angelos. Angelos probably told him I'm still running the show. Let's see free agency opens up on Thursday and we have NO GM and there are a bunch of holes to fill. So another losing season. Maybe we will have a GM in place by the winter meetings. We are already the laughing stock of baseball, just wait if we don't have a GM in place by those meetings lol.

Muahahaha, this is truly donkey business. Maybe they should hire the king of the donkeys to run the donkeys. First order of business - firing the stockstills.

Looks bad on the surface. But remember: the Ravens got turned down by Jason Garrett and "settled" for John Harbaugh.
Joe Girardi turned down the O's, too. If he takes it, they don't have Showalter now.

This is so disheartening. As an older Oriole fan, I never imagined that someday the Orioles would be the laughing stock of baseball. My anger has been reduced to total sadness and after a decade and a half, the years of the dominant Oriole teams are becoming a once in a lifetime memory. I wish I had your money Peter, 'cause I wouldn't rest until I found the means and the people to get this mess turned around. You may be a savvy business man, but your are a monstrous joke for an owner.

Another manifestation of the magnificence and magnetism of Peter the Grate, a miserable owner and a horrible employer. I know someone who worked in Angeloser's real estate operation. It was a horrible experience.
