Baird decides not to interview with the Orioles

Boston Red Sox VP Allard Baird said he has decided he will not interview for the Orioles' open GM job.

Here is his statement: "I was honored that the Baltimore Orioles expressed interest in me as a candidate for their GM position. The opportunity to possibly work side by side with Buck Showalter made this so attractive. At the end of the day it came down to my loyalty to the Red Sox/Ben Cherington."

So to recap: You have three candidates still standing: Dan Duquette, Scott Proefrock and John Stockstill and Damon Oppenheimer may interview.

Now they won't even interview before giving the Orioles a rejection notice. So much for GM being a dream job. I guess there are just some messes even the bravest won't dip their hands into...

The real sick part is that I STILL love the Orioles. This is sad...

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! There is nothing left to do now but laugh! Can you say ROCK BOTTOM?

Was Proefrock a character on the Flintstones?

Too funny. A lot of loyalty going around lately when it comes to the candidates for the Os GM job.

30 jobs like it in the world, and 2 guys stay second or third fiddle where they are. Right.

Be nice to see what would have happened had the job been anywhere but Baltimore.

Step right up and Angelos' next puppet. You get no authority and all the blame. Not even worth millions folks. That says it all.

Good Luck O's in finding the right guy for the job. He will have his work cut out for him. I hope that Peter A let's the next GM have more control over trades and keeps the fans interest in making this team a winner more than making friends with the players and their families a priority. The O's will never get back to the glory days while Peter owns this team. That is the sad truth

I still don't believe that Duquette will take the job once he gets down the specifics of what his job will entail. When he finds out that he'll be answering to Buck and that he's not allowed to sign FA pitchers unless they sign for 2 yrs or less at no more than 3 million/season, he'll happily go right back into retirement.
I'm surprised at Proefrock. He already knows how bad things are with Angelos, yet he's considering leaving a great team to return to an insurmountable pile of crap? If he didn't know what he'd be getting into, I could see him possibly interviewing. Does not make sense.
