Zach Britton has joined the team here. He's on schedule to throw a bullpen tomorrow and if all goes well, he could be activated from the disabled list to start Monday's series opener in Minnesota. Brian Matusz threw a bullpen session today and he's in line ot start Sunday's series finale here.

First baseman Chris Davis classified yesterday's diagnosis by renowned orthopedist Dr. Lewis Yocum as good news. Davis said that he has a small tear in his labrum, but he wants to avoid surgery for now. He wants to give it one more try this season and if he's still experiencing shoulder discomfort, he'll have the surgery.

Chris Davis should talk to another position player who tried to avoid surgery on a torn labrum. If only there was someone else who tried that...

What's that you say? Luke Scott tried to play through a torn labrum as well? And it didn't work out too well?

News flash: A torn labrum, no matter how "small" or "partial" it is, is a serious injury.

Stop fooling around, Chris. Your team isn't going to the playoffs and you're not playing for any award. There's absolutely no reason for you to risk your health for your own sake and there's especially no reason to risk your health for the sake of this classless joke of an organization.

Have the damn surgery and try to come back strong next year.

I am ok with Vlad returning to clean-up. He's playing in front of his old team where he won the MVP. Grant it, it was 2004, still it's "Good Joss" on Showalter's part. Also, Andino might have the best glove on the team. I hear some fans are disappointed Blake Davis isn't getting a start. It should be interesting to see how it works out for Chris Davis. He might be able to gut it out, but if he can't Reynolds and Bell can handle it. Jose Bell just needs to be more consistent, that's all and for that matter so does Reimold. He (Reimold) better figure it out soon, he's running out of opportunities as far as I am concerned.

Really Lefty,Reynolds and Bell can handle it,and Andino has the best glove on the Orioles? But Reimold who constantly hustles,is running out of chances as far as you're concerned?God knows, thank goodness you're not running this team, glad you're ok with Vlad batting cleanup, you and Buck might be the only ones.Would like to know what your observations are based on,that's for sure.A Ouija board? If you want to know how it works out for Chris Davis just see Luke Scott, and Luke had a much better track record.Chris Davis has done nothing in the majors, and having a torn labrum isn't going to help him any, that's for sure.

Well, not very good clutch hitting, two times they loaded the bases with 1 out and never scored. Too many K's. Too bad for Berken, and yes Davis may have to go on the DL sooner.

A Baltimore native, Dan Connolly has been covering sports for 14 years, and baseball and the Orioles for 10 seasons, including the past six with The Sun. His first year covering baseball on a daily basis was Cal Ripken Jr.'s final season as a player. It's believed that is just a coincidence.

Steve Gould is an assistant sports editor for The Sun, overseeing Orioles coverage. The Columbia native joined The Sun as a sports copy editor in 2006 after graduating from the University of Maryland.

Peter Schmuck has been covering baseball for a lot longer than Steve Gould has been on this earth. He is now a general sports columnist, but has been a beat writer covering three major league teams (the Dodgers, Angels and Orioles) and also spent a decade as the Sun's national baseball writer.
