Orioles outfielder Luke Scott will be shut down for a couple of days before trying to resume playing in some rehab games. Scott acknowledged that his shoulder is still giving him trouble, but he's not ready to shut it down yet. Orioles manager Buck Showalter said Scott is close to the point where he's going to have to decide how to deal with his shoulder or he could risk not being ready for the start of next season.
Infielder Cesar Izturis (elbow surgery) will play Friday for the Gulf Coast League Orioles, then go to Double-A Bowie on Saturday and Sunday. He'll DH for Bowie on Saturday and play shortstop for the Baysox on Sunday. He could be activated by the Orioles in time for Tuesday's game.
Brian Roberts had migraines yesterday, but Showalter said it was unrelated to his concussion issues and the second baseman was able to do some activities today.
The doctor who has operated on Justin Duchscherer before has recommended the pitcher have another hip surgery. Duchscherer will consult with Orioles orthopedist Dr. John Wilckens before making the decision, but the reality is that nobody expects him to pitch for the Orioles this season. That ship has sailed.
Closer Kevin Gregg, who is scheduled to serve the second game of his three-game suspension tonight, beat the storm and threw a simulated game.

Comments
I'm so happy to hear that Brian Roberts was able to "do some activities." I mean, we're paying the guy $10 million and he's shown absolutely no urgency to come back. He has now missed 3/4 of the team's games over the past two seasons (since signing his new deal, interestingly...), with what amounts to a sore back and headaches.
So, yeah, "some activities" is great to hear from our ten million dollar man. Maybe we can hope that someday those "activities" might include doing his job.

Talk about idiotic comments about Roberts. I guess B-Rob should rush back to the field with concussion symptoms and make himself worse? He has nothing to gain by hurrying back to the line up this year. Get better B-Rob and hope for a healthy 2012!

Thanks for the updates, Jeff
If Scott's his shoulder is still giving him trouble after a second shot of cortisone he should call it a year. Sounds like Buck is getting close to doing that for him
I predicted that Duchscherer would never throw a pitch for the Orioles and end up retiring. Andy needed to bring in two established arms for the rotation this past offseason, but I guess he was too busy growing them.
Four years later and nearly 20 games out of first on july 19, and Andy says we are better. It takes incredible hubris to make that observation and it is an insult to Oriole fans everywhere.

Finally a lineup I like. It was partially forced by injuries but at least it looks balanced and batters are finally in the positions that they should be according to form. Time to stop flogging a dead horse and experiment. I look for a win tonight. Go O's!

how many teams in the ML have their DH batting 8th?

I know Luke is still hoping for a miracle cure, but when you tear your labrum, you have to get it repaired. It amazes me that the disorganization has allowed him to play with this injury into July. They can't make him do the surgery, but they certainly could have shut him down much earlier.

Andrew, go post on ESPN if you are going to make moronic statements.
We are all frustrated with BRob, but a sore back? With disc problems, you can't sit down to take a dump, let alone play in a baseball game.
I'm not even going to address the headaches.
Thanks for the updates Jeff.
