Roberts to see concussion specialist in Pittsburgh Tuesday

Orioles second baseman Brian Roberts will go to Pittsburgh on Tuesday to have a consultation with Dr. Michael Collins, a renowned expert in sports-related concussions.

Dr. Collins is an assistant director of the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center's Sports Medicine Concussion Program.

Roberts is scheduled to come off the seven-day disabled list that day, but that's obviously not going to happen.

Not sure whether Adams is the second baseman of the future or whether Andino will be around, but I'm wondering about shortstop. True, 0 for 23 hitting streaks aren't impressive, and spending 1/3 of his stint with the O's so far on the DL is hardly a positive augur, but for some reason I like Hardy. (Maybe his exciting prospecthood in Milwaukee, or maybe his few clutch hits for us?) Anyway, I was just wondering if you think there's any propensity for an extension for him.

Matt Wieters is worth his weight in Gold Gloves.

Amazing behind the plate. I believe he's now 14-for-28 today in the CS dept. He's got to be the clear frontrunner in the GG category.

Brian Roberts seems like a good guy, you don`t here any nasty stories about him and he does play hard...when he plays. He is a fan fovorite. I wonder, just wonder how much these "headaches" were, are caused by steroid use?

Roberts symptoms are really concerning, I'm past worrying about how soon he'll come back to the lineup and just hoping he's going to be okay in general.
As for Buck having to adapt to a lineup without him, truth is he's been doing that all year. Roberts hasn't been the same since he went out last year.

Roberts along with every starting position team mate, enhanced his performance in 2005. You know, the year that Roberts hit 11 HRs before the All-Star break? The year the Os spent much of the 1st half of the season in 1st place? All of those players faced terrible immediate futures following that season. Roberts, Tejada, & Mora have somehow managed to fight to hold on to careers that have honestly fizzled out years ago.

Why do so many posters think that Roberts used steroids? Has he ever admitted it? Was he ever tested for it? Is he a huge built up player such as the ones who did use steroids? Is he a very powerful hitter? Good, yes, but powerful, no? He was a great 2nd baseman, and base stealer, but that has little to do with steroids.

Besides I never heard of steroids causing concussions.

Concussions are among the most frustrating injuries in sports because there's absolutely nothing you can do about them (besides rest), there's no time frame for recovery, and once you have one you're more susceptible to others. Let's hope for a speedy recovery.

To river8101: Brian Roberts admitted to using steroids two years ago. He said that he used steroids to help him recover from an injury. He was never a great 2`nd baseman...just a good one. Willie Randolph was a great 2`nd baseman.

river8101:

Yes, Brian Roberts did admit to abusing steroids once the evidence became overwhelming. Of course he lied about his steroid abuse for years, and when he finally admitted to abusing steroids, he said he only abused steroids "one single time," which is obviously just another lie. His body is breaking down in typical fashion for a steroid abuser. Roberts is a steroid abuser, a cheater, and a liar. This is not speculation. This is a fact.

@ river8101,,,,,,,he did admit steroid use , he should see a steroid specialist not a concussion specialist,,,,,,,,,,,,,

Brian Roberts is class, a real mensch who does great stuff in the community. Let's just wish him well. He is a real player too, as the Os records with him and without him demonstrate. This is one great guy for whom we all shoud root.

I thought I read that his concussion was caused by his helmet in his latest selfish dive into first base.

It also amazes me that he stays so popular when he refuses to run 90 feet on ground balls. And he's not the only one.

I like B. Roberts, but anyone who really follows the Os knows that even when Robrerts has hit 50 doubles and stolen 25 bases, the team still finishes in last place.or 4th. The team may win a few more games with him in the line up, but not enough change the team's place in the standings. Its time for a change.

Thank you for your service Brian Roberts, but you need to move on take care of your body to ensure that you can live quality life free from pain and discomfort.
