Prediction Friday: More Orioles projections

Jeff Zrebiec, Pete Schmuck and I had so much fun making Orioles’ predictions at dinner Thursday night that we are giving you a second wave.

OK, that’s not completely true. We’ve spent so much time together during spring training that we had nothing left to talk about at dinner. Thank goodness Jeff had a pencil and the waiter brought us some paper.

Here’s round two of our Orioles’ predictions. We’ll have our major-league predictions in a bar blog this weekend. Enjoy.

Guerrero's homers: 25 (Jeff); 32 (Dan); 23 (Pete)

Wieters' average: .265 (Jeff); .278 (Dan); .290 (Pete)

Scott's homers: 24 (Jeff); 22 (Dan); 19 (Pete)

Guthrie's ERA: 4.23 (Jeff); 4.12 (Dan); 4.01 (Pete)

Fox's homers: 9 (Jeff); 12 (Dan); 5 (Pete)

Most Valuable Oriole: Markakis (Jeff); Markakis (Dan); Guerrero (Pete)

First, who carries a pencil with them? That is weird. No way around it. Unless it's a golf/bowling pencil...but alleys no longer use them and good golfers leave them in their bag.

Forecast for Baltimore.........Rain!

How fitting!

My overall themes for 2011 are these.

1.Buck will have this team ready to play everyday.

2. But, the team will still struggle because....

3. Andy ignored the rotation this offseason, and to no surprise, Bergy and Tillman stink!

4. 75 wins.

It's going to be a looooonnnnggggg season folks. Let's enjoy what little there is to celebrate.

Is it possible THREE reporters go do dinner and no one has any paper, a notebook ... anything??

Wow, the death knell for journalism ...

Wow, c'mon boys, get it together!

Did "The Duke' get his adjustment yet?
I predict 20 wins once he gets his adjust from the chiropractor.

It's not only that they didn't get a proven starter, they threw money away on Duch. Then in spring training they has guthrie and matuz pitch B games against AA stiffs while Britton got A game starts and then was sent down. Now they promoted Tillman over bergy in the rotation when bergy needs innings to get on track. They text Tillman to let him know he's the third starter. i thought there would be improvements under Buck but he's Trembley revisited.

Don't get me started on keeping Pie over reimold,in fact reimold should be starting tonight.

About the bloggers
A Baltimore native, Dan Connolly has been covering sports for 14 years, and baseball and the Orioles for 10 seasons, including the past six with The Sun. His first year covering baseball on a daily basis was Cal Ripken Jr.'s final season as a player. It's believed that is just a coincidence.

Steve Gould is an assistant sports editor for The Sun, overseeing Orioles coverage. The Columbia native joined The Sun as a sports copy editor in 2006 after graduating from the University of Maryland.

Peter Schmuck has been covering baseball for a lot longer than Steve Gould has been on this earth. He is now a general sports columnist, but has been a beat writer covering three major league teams (the Dodgers, Angels and Orioles) and also spent a decade as the Sun's national baseball writer. If you want more of his insight on the Orioles and other sports issues, check out his personal blog -- The Schmuck Stops Here.
