Simon meeting with police this morning

Orioles reliever Alfredo Simon was scheduled to meet with Dominican Republic authorities in the country’s capital of Santo Domingo this morning to discuss a New Year’s Eve shooting in the resort town of Luperon that left one man dead and another injured.

As of 11 a.m., one of Simon’s agents, Phil Isaac, said he believed that Simon already was speaking to the police and hoped there would be more clarity on Simon’s situation within the next few hours.

“As far as we know, he is meeting with officials and his attorneys right now in the Dominican Republic to supply an official statement, and we would hope that would clear things up sometime today,” Isaac said.

Isaac said he is hopeful that Simon will be cleared of any wrongdoing, “but we don’t want to predict what will go on. But we hopefully should have more information today.”

An arrest warrant had been issued for Simon, 29, who spent much of last season as the Orioles’ closer.

thanx for the update, Dan. Most of us were getting our exercise yesterday after the news broke about Simon. We were all running (our collective mouths) and Jumping (to conclusions). Sometimes we do forget that a person is innocent until proven guilty. Maybe we should wait until the smoke clears before we get out the rope.

can you shake now by the Police?

Hope everything works out for Simon and that this was a case of someone IDing him by mistake.

In other baseball news, apparently things are heating up between the Rangers and Beltre. If he's signed, and the Rangers can't dump Young's contract, Guerrero could get pushed out of a job.

One of the most productive DH's in the league could still be looking for work. A solid two year deal and the chance for regular at bats could well attract him.

Roberts 2B
Markakis RF
Lee 1B
Guerrerro DH
Scott LF
Reynolds 3B
Jones CF
Wieters C
Hardy SS

Adding Guerrero to the cleanup spot makes the O's formidable. If Jones & Wieters progress, the bottem of the O's order could become quite tough.

Would love to see the O's make an honest run at Guerrero. This isn't a man crush, like our Tree Varmit friend has for Butler. The O's need a legit #4 hitter so these other guys they've signed and traded for can get slotted into their most productive spots in the order.

I'd take 40+ HR's from a #6 hitter who strikes out a lot. That's not what you want from a cleanup guy. And Lee's always been more productive as a #3 hitter. Markakis actually hits' for a higher average in the 2 hole then as a #3 hitter. Luke Scott had his best yr last yr. But he's no cleanup guy. But him and Reynolds will be a deadly 5, 6, combo no matter which way you bat them.

Jones and Wieters could get a chance to develop as ML hitters and work their way into the heart of the lineup in the next couple of years. But they could mature in the less pressure 7, and 8 holes. Hardy as a #9 hitter, could be one of the best 9's in baseball.

Riemold could get the chance to spell Luke in LF and re-establish himself as a potential RH power bat again against favorable matchups. And Buck would always have at least one dangerous bat on the bench.

The O's still have plenty of payroll flexibility to make it happen and still sign enough pitching to fill out the pen. Nothing better for young pitching then to see his team putting up multi-run innings.

can you say "shake down" by the Police?

Ditto Mountain Man's post. If Jones and Wieters take the next step this becomes a formidable lineup with Vlad. We tried to get D. Lee years ago at it didn't happen until now. We tried to get Vlad years ago, too, to no avail. Make it happen.
