Luke Scott's Obama rant

Those who deal with Orioles designated hitter Luke Scott on a daily basis know the deal: Scott is one of the nicer, happier guys in baseball.

He is also one of the most outspoken players about things he believes strongly in. That starts with religion and his Christian beliefs. He is also a huge Second Amendment supporter – and has gone on national TV on multiple occasions about the right to carry guns.

And he is a big right-wing conservative. Oftentimes he’ll share his opinions in the clubhouse. He says things matter-of-factly, and those around him have come to accept that that is just Luke.

Well, Luke was being Luke Tuesday at the winter meetings and it was President Barack Obama who ended up in his crosshairs. After talking with an Internet blogger on media row Tuesday about baseball and hunting and other topics, politics and Obama came up.

The Yahoo Sports blogger asked Scott whether he thought Obama was born in the United States – long a topic of discussion and passion for conservatives. And this is what Scott said: “He was not born here.”

He went on to explain: Here is an excerpt:

“That's my belief. I was born here. If someone accuses me of not being born here, I can go — within 10 minutes — to my filing cabinet and I can pick up my real birth certificate and I can go, "See? Look! Here it is. The man has dodged everything. He dodges questions, he doesn't answer anything. And why? Because he's hiding something.”

That’s Luke. Here’s the link.

Nobody ever said a baseball player had to be bright.

Slow news day?

Luke Scott is 100% correct. There should be a law requiring proof of US Birth before you can be President.

Obviously public figures have opinions on matters, and they are more than welcome to use their notoriety to broadcast them. I've never had problems with stars declaring political or religious opinions. But they need to be aware that doing so will affect public opinion one way or another. Knowing that Luke Scott is a 'birther' causes me to think less of him now.

I am not sure this is the venue for political discussions.

With everything including what you buy your kid for their birthday now being politicized, it would be nice to have at least one place that isn't sucked into polemics.

I play in an Over-30 baseball league. On my team there are a lot of conservative guys. There are also a lot of liberal guys. And there are guys in the middle - kind of like America.

We play as a team. We get mad over a bad play not because the guy making it likes Palin but because it is a bad play.

I would really like to keep it that way here, too.

Think about it

I believe the interviewer provided a link to Luke showing a copy of Obama's birth certificate. Anyone who doesn't believe that is a complete moron.

It's America's game and Luke is an American, giving him the right to speak freely. You don't have to agree with him, but you have to respect him for standing up for what he believes in. I would go to war with that guy in a heartbeat. Let's hope the Orioles feel the same way.

Oh boy - this one should bring out the crazies ...

JackL,

I agree with you; you can do anything AFTER you become a president. There is a law people just don't enforce it. His race some what saved him too. Ask a white guy his birth certificate, nothing happens but ask a black guy and see what happens.

I am a minority by the way.

I’m a registered Republican, and I think Luke Scott’s opinion about Obama’s history is about as relevant as Obama’s thoughts (or from any President, for that matter) on a sports issue.

Let’s keep it to “no news out of Orlando” rather than just “no news.”

The Republicans could offer nothing better than Mcain/Palin. They deserved to lose for even thinking Palin was good for there party. She lost them the election (and well Goerge Bush's 8 year disaster did not help).

GW's 8 years has more to do with the Economy than anything Obama has done. Obama has to try and fix so much, he has no chance. (why would anyone actually want to be president, no win situation)

Back to sports :) Koji should play 1.5 years for free, to make up for his lack of playing time and the 10 Million he stole from us already. We know first hand he is a huge injury risk. I am scared to hear the numbers we offering.

Dan,

So why does your leftist positioned writeup about Luke's beliefs or views make you any more important to listen to? Luke is speaking his mind and you are the one bashing a person for speaking what he believes because you are a leftists and don't like it...that's not news, especially during Winter Meetings. You are reporting on water bottle talk when all of baseball is meeting and making real news around you and your little world. Luke has a very valid point obviously announcing the burden lies with your rising "O" savior and not the American citizen who cares to know the truth. If you want to discuss water bottle chit chat like it is real news, then focus your writeup on the issue Luke presents, which still has no validation to warrant it a non issue.

Some one ought to tell ole' Luke that he can go on line and get a copy of Obama's Hawaiian birth cert in 10 minutes. And, yes, Luke, Hawaii is part of the good old US of A.

Jim,

I am sure it is as real as the dollar that Kim Jong il is printing.

He is the president of the US, remember that.

I'm more concerned about the fiscal conservatism being practiced by the FO than I am about Luke Scott's political views.

I'm more concerned about the fiscal conservatism being practiced by the FO than I am about Luke Scott's political views.

Trade Scott to the Nationals :-)

Have Obama throw out first pitch of the new season. That will be fun to watch!

People please.....now we're into name calling because of a players political view.....grow up. I know the truth is hard to accept sometimes but being immature is a quality reserved for children. Obama, simply doesn't cut it as a president. If he were a ball player, he would have been cut last year.

"...who ended up in his crosshairs."

An imprudent choice of words given the strong feelings about the President by some.

Many of our founding fathers were not born in this country - traitorous souls were they all.
It is a requirement of the office of the president, but to somehow make the leap from lineage to being a traitor is a monstrous leap.
You can dislike the job he is doing because he is simply not equipped for what is required (as I do), but to crush him because of where he may or may not have been born is ridiculous.

Luke keeps growing scary facial hair every winter too - is he hiding something? Like his hygienic practices?

Consider the source. This comes from a man who shows his love to God's creatures by blasting them into the next dimension. Scott keeps an arsenal that would make Charlton Heston blush.

Many people describe Scott as nice and friendly, and I'm sure that's true-- but I also find him smug and self-righteous in interviews. Everything about him says he builds his beliefs on dogma rather than evidence. Thus, "birther-ism" fits Scott quite logically.

For the record, "That's Luke" and I agree with a lot of his views on guns etc. But you really, really need to make sure that your post includes the actual truth about Obama's birthplace. A lot of your readers may believe that he wasn;t born here, which of course is untrue.

As a journalist - even a sports journalist - you have a responsibility to note something like (Obama, for the record, was of course born in America.)

"Everyone is entitled to their own opinions, but they are not entitled to their own facts."

Deep Thinkers like the DH above who bats on the worst team in professional baseball might want pop out of their bunkers and take a moment to think that if President Obama is a non-citizen he would have had to conceal his 'true' identity from;

The Illinois DMV
Harvard University Admissions
The Illinois Bar Association
The Defense Intelligence Agency
The State Department
The FBI
The CIA

It might be confusing until you remember that Luke Scott is a true American, and anyone who doesn't agree with them are traitors and Communists. After that it starts making sense.

kudos to scott!
obama sucks. he knows it. we all know it.

Yawn. Whatever. When it comes to defending our country, he's no Pat Tillman.

Lets see Obama's mother was an American citizen so it does not matter where he was Luke.

People may think you are stupid; you dont need to open your mouth and let them know you are!

Enough of that.... lets keep this blog to SPORTS,OK? If I want to hear lunatics raving, I will watch FOX (not) News.

I love it when Luke hits the longball, but his grasp of citizenship isn't very strong.

One needn't even be born "here" (in the United States) to be a citizen. Anyone born to a U.S. citizen is automatically a U.S. citizen (this included Winston Churchill, who had an American mother).

John McCain, for example, wasn't born "here"--he was born in Panama. But nobody asks to see his birth certificate. I'm also willing to bet Luke voted for McCain.

It's fine to dislike/ disagree with the president, but disliking/ disagreeing with the president doesn't mean Obama is some secret Muslim terrorist sent to destroy us all.

I like it when athletes display viewpoints beyond the dull cliches. Unfortunately, Luke is just repeating verbatim the dull cliches of others. Wish he had something original to say, regardless of his partisan position.

Also read the full article Dan linked to. You can just go point-by-point through all these claims Scott makes and refute them with factual, researched evidence. He sounds like a parrot kept in a room where the TV is tuned to FOX News.

Luke is right.

You should have to be a natural born United States citizen before becoming president.

You should also have to be 35 years old and to have lived in the US for 14 years.

Furthermore, they should really consider limiting presidents to 2 terms.

Lets see Obama's mother was an American citizen so it does not matter where he was Luke.

Posted by: jay | December 8, 2010 12:52 PM

Not to re-visit this, but having a parent who is an American citizen is not enough to satisfy the constitutional requirement that the President himself be a natural-born citizen.

Regardless of what Luke says, I expect everyone to give him the same support when he's on the ball field that he's received from Orioles fans the past three years. I'd hate to stop hearing the "LUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUKKEEE" chant just because Balti-morons (I'm from Baltimore as well, and am a HUGE O's fan, so I have the right to say that) are too immature to disregard his political beliefs and acknowledge the fact that Luke is one of the hardest players on the team, who gives his all each and every swing, every play he gets on the field, and genuinely cares about his teammates' and team's success more than his own. He's one of the most genuine players in the game, so please don't get on him when at the ball park. We're all on the same team there; remember that.

Luke, like all the "birthers", is just plain Stupid with a capital "S". Facts don't get in the way of their ridiculous "beliefs". Just like those who still "believe" the earth is flat. It's embarassing to have someone this Stupid on our team.

Luke,

Learn some diplomacy skills from Ripken. I don't want to know that you are a right wing crazy who kills things for fun. I just want you to be a little more consistent at the plate.

Luke Scott may be religious, but he certainly isn't Christian.

The president was born here, that is a fact. Now for the opinion part of this post:
Luke Scott is a idiot!

Let's just hope all the people who rail about athletes being uninformed morons whenever one mentions not being able to feed their kids on a multi-million dollar salary, or suggests that Vick's crimes weren't so bad because he only kid dogs that belonged to him, demonstrate a bit of consistency and say the same about Luke, now that he's used his public profile to broadcast a factually incorrect belief that's perpetuated only by fear.

“You never know where you are born. You have to take your parents’ word for it.”

-John Lowenstein

I ordering a brand new Luke Scott Jersey. He is now my favorite player. HAHA. Somebody needs to speak the truth about our "so called" leader! Luuuuuuke!

I've been to Hawai'i, and did not need a passport. And as for proving my own place of birth (Huntington, WV), all I have is a birth certificate, plus the unofficial evidence of a notice in the local paper the next day. Obama has the same--birth certificate, notice of birth in the newspaper. If you say the certificate is fake and that I somehow broke into thousands of libraries and doctored the microfilm of the newspapers, I have absolutely no other document to prove you wrong.

If there was ANNNNNY REEEAAALLL QUESTION about wether or not Obama was an American citizen.... dont you think Republicans would have made SURE, before he was allowed to run???????????????????????????????????????????????????????????

Cmon! That part of the argument is bs. Everything else Luke can say whatever he wants, but THAT... its not about agreeing with what he says or not. He is just plain ol wrong. Incorrecto!

Politics aside..the fact that there is a discussion on a baseball player's opinion of the president could indicate a problem.. I hope my birds get better soon, because this is nonsense..

I agree that he has a right to voice his opinion. I do however have a problem with him doing so as a Baltimore Orioles. Every paper and online site is not posting "Baltimore Orioles Slugger is a birther". He represents the Orioles. I can't think of a sports person ever coming out and voicing political views like this while still playing.
I won't even get into how wrong he is on so many of his points. My problem is that now the team I support is being associated with Luke Scott 'Birther"!

We already knew he was a red neck. Now we know he is an ignorant red neck.

Is this a joke!? Come on people give it up! Obama is the child of an American citizen no one is calling that into question. Obama is a citizen! Please shut up about it. Better yet go lock yourselves in a room with scientologists and those 9/11 conspiracy nut jobs. Conservatives also like to get on their self appointed high horse and talk about illegal immigrants coming into this country and having children who are then citizens. John McCain wasn’t born in the country, he was born in Panama. We can leave out the part about the American military base in Panama, just like we leave out the “…on rich people,” when we talk about raising taxes. Those “Obama is not a citizen” people are a bit of a non issue, it’s not like they voted for Obama in 2008, and weren’t about to in 2012. Perhaps you should get together when you’re not proving that Planet Earth is currently engaged in a top secret war against an alien race, or pointing out suspicious satellite dishes that the government uses to control people’s thoughts. Go back to your Elvis records and NASCAR, talk to each other about Jesus and his friends Matthew, Mark Luke and John coming over on the Mayflower and signing the Declaration of Independence on Plymouth Rock to give you the freedom to not have homosexuals nearby. Then you can get deep and explain how the PATRIOT act took away your freedoms to prevent them from being taken by a bunch of smelly brown people with a dirty God.
I hate it when baseball and politics mix like this.

I guess you guys all missed the part where the reporter baited him into saying that. Luke Scott wasn't planning on talking about Obama. Why did the reporter bring up Obama? Makes no sense to me.

I love Luke by the way, no matter what he says.

so if an athlete criticizes Bush or Palin they are hailed but God forbid they criticize the mighty Obama

I say let it go. This just opens the door for Ahhhnold to step in in 2012.

As if the O's make alot of money now, with this dummy shooting off his mouth, watch the boycott if he's on the team. I know for sure, me and my friends wont be attending and we usually attend about 10 games a year and spend good money there. Now you Obama haters can have those seats!!!

This has nothing to do with anyone's 'political beliefs'. The birth certificate has been produced. At this point, denying he was born in this country just makes you a moron, democrat or republican.

someone get him away from the winter meetings before McPhail, out of desperation, trades him to someone else

OH BOY..I had to be dragged into this. Well, I like Luke Scott and I voted for President Obama, although I am disappointed in many of his decisions. I support our President. I voted Republican 6 of 8 Presidential elections. Glad to be in the USA!!!

Now to Luke Scott: Luke I like u very much and believe many of the things you believe 2nd Amendment and Jesus Christ, but as a previous blogger, Paul_D noted many agencies have vetted Mr. Obama to meet eligibility requirements.

So -therefore Mr. Scott..you owe the President an apology. Please check the facts first before you publicly make this take a of blunder. Now, make us happy and protect Mark Reynolds and Adam Jones in the line-up.

It is funny how people who argue that Obama is not a citizen seems to have valid arguments and some sort of point to make but the people who argue that he is a citizen seems to have nothing but name calling and personal attack.

Who is ignorant?

Dan,

Wow Dan thank you for letting me know you are leftist by exclaiming your political views about water bottle talk made by a MLB baseball player.

Dannyboy, Did you ever think why it is you are a small time reporter for the Sun and why you will never make it any further? You see, Americans, whether they are left or right oriented politically, really don't like to read a one sided judgement made by a writer who happens to have the luxury of casting his personal views over a reputable medium such as baltimoresun.com. The fact is Dan, what you just wrote about Luke is undeniably admitting to everyone how immature and an idiot you are.

When you became a reporter, did you ever stop and think for yourself just once? Why is it you became a reporter exactly? Have you ever thought that your viewers are made of all kinds of people and in general, as most Americans, they simply wish you to report news and not blab about your personal and political views or judgements?

That's right Dan! Just shutup and report the news...that's what the sun pays you to do and that's what we, your customers, want you to do!

If you don't do your job Dan, you are only writing your own ticket toward failure as a reporter. You will never be Perter Gammons or Buster Olney, not that I like them much either, but at least they actually do their job as a reporter unlike you.

You see Dan, you are simply a quintessential leftist, that by the work you do, is only helping erode the great values established by our founding fathers and the blood that had been shed to maintain them since. Go get an education from a real school and learn quickly about the evils of indoctrination, because you have been indoctrinated since the 4th grade my friend.

I'm not sure why this article was even printed, other than the paper is exercising its freedom of speech. Whether you like what Luke Scott said or not is totally your opinion. My real issue is why don't the O's go ahead and do what it takes to sign Adam LaRoche since he's the only other good first baseman out there that is available. Over the last 3 years he's averaged 25 HR's, 89 RBI's with a .269 BA. His strikeouts have, unfortunately, gone up each of the last three years having 152 in 2010. He's an above average defender with a .994 fielding percentage over the last three years. Sign him for one year if the O' are going to (seriously) go after Fielder or Pujols next year or give him a 3 or 4 year deal.

OK Dan,

I love how you and everyone of your bleeding heart liberal fellow reporters love to label everyone who doesn't agree with you a right-wing conservative. I hope one day someone writes about you and labels you as a Rachel Maddow-loving neo-socialist Jon Stewart-believing far extreme lefty liberal? If somebody on the Orioles ranted about George W would you have printed that? Of course not. Unless you were just trying to write about how right the person is and how this person should go on Colbert on something. Scott is entitled to his opinion. Report on something with substance. This is why the Sun is losing so much circulation!

I will repost this...

http://www.wnd.com/files/pdf/Obama_Eligibility_Primer_FORWARD6.pdf

Just goes to show ya, right wing whacko's show up in all arenas. My opinion of Luke has been diminished. He must be the Rush Limbaugh in the O's clubhouse.

Criticizing is one thing. No one has a problem with his political beliefs that Obama isn't a good president. That's all pretty harmless, and certainly wouldn't have generated a story.

The story here is that Luke Scott has voiced a factually vacant argument that rightly offends anyone who is grounded in reality.

Similarly, if any liberal athlete had publicly said that 9/11 was an inside job orchestrated by Bush, he would be rightly criticized , as all 9/11 Truthers rightly are.

Critcizing Bush or Obama doesn't make news. Suggesting things that have been clearly demonstrated to be false-- such as that Obama isn't from America or that George Bush orchestrated 9/11-- is what gets stupid athletes and celebrities into trouble.

Unfortunately, too many people will see this along partisan lines, as though the only reason this is news is because he criticized the President. But Luke Scott has voiced criticism for Obama's politics on many occasions, and in post-game interviews you can always see his political stickers and signs. But that never makes the news, beacse it isn't newsworthy.

I have a new favorite baseball player.

Thank God the idiot can hit a baseball since he obviously believe any crazy thing he's told...

Seems everytime Luke pops off, the uninformed moron comes out. No different than earlier this year when he tried to draw comparisons between himself and the everyday working person. We can only be thankful it takes nothing between the ears to hit a baseball. Can't wait for the next time you open your mouth Luke!

Well, that's a gut punch for Christmas right up there with the Sidney Ponson disgrace. O's management needs some kind of charm school for these idiots. Let's face it, this team needs all the fan enthusiasm it can muster. And Luke Scott should remember who he plays for - us: Baltimore is a diverse town in the middle of a very, very blue state. Give us reasons to come out to the park. Cheez, what're you thinking? Just shut up and play!

I always here how bright Luke is, so if he has an opinion on politics I think he probably is educated enough to speak with some substance. But he is no polotician so i don't care what he has to say.

Criticizing is one thing. No one has a problem with his political beliefs that Obama isn't a good president. That's all pretty harmless, and certainly wouldn't have generated a story.

Luke Scott did not say anything offensive. He didn't make a racist comment, he didn't call people names like many obama supporters here are doing.

He simply stated his belief. He said "I believe" he also simply talked about an issue that is stil being argued. If it was a fact then the argument would have stopped. No one has proved that he is a citizen and no one has proved that he is not. There are overwhelmign eveidence to suggest that Obama is not a Us citizen. How could you find out if it was true or not without talking about it?

again, every argument taht is coming from a Obama supporter has some sort of name calling. I guess that is what happens when you vote for race and not policies and beliefs.

Gun toting, ignorant redneck. You think he knows how to read? Go back to chopping wood and making yourself useful. By the way, killing is not supported by any religion.

I notice luke went to Oklahoma State -- that explains a lot!!! What a jerk he is. In my American opinion.

@Go Orioles "Who's ignorant?"

People who actually believe that Obama was born in another country, despite his birth certificate being produced? I mean, if you don't like the guy's politics, thats fine and is a different discussion.

Geez, even the guy he beat in the election concedes he was born in America.

Please end this thread with some actual baseball news.

As a genealogist, I researched this issue prior to the presidential election. I actually have a scanned image of the birth certificate, AND a PDF file of the Hawaii newspaper issue a couple days later that lists the BIRTH ANNOUNCEMENT !!! I show it to my parents periodically when they rant, but they just tell me it is all fake. Well, people will believe whatever they want to believe as humans are still a primitive species.

Wow. What a dumba$$. How embarrassing for Baltimore. Low intelligence, low IQ.

Gun toting, ignorant redneck. You think he knows how to read? Go back to chopping wood and making yourself useful. By the way, killing is not supported by any religion.

Who freakin cares....Obama suxs and this birther bs is the least of his problems

Dan,

I guess if we outed you as a a flaming conservative, your job with the Sun would be toast!

To those who commented on obama's birth certificate. The one provided by the interviewer. Its a fake. For one, a birth certificate always has a doctors signature or the nurse present at birth. It has neither. Also, a research team wnt to Hawaii and interviwed the hospital, no records exist of obama's birth nor any records of any doctor or nurse that witnessed the event. obama's cronies made up a basic birth certificate and .. presto .. a US Birth Certificate. The constitution states .. "natural born citizen" ... obama is not one. Good thing he is a ONE TERM president.

I see nobody read my post...

Luke Scott comments are an embarassment on the organization since it shows he is 1) a moran and 2) ignorant and or possibly a racist.

Everyone has a right to speak freely even if its as stupid as Luke's comments but its pathetic that he is so ignorant and stubborn that he wont just accept the truth that Obama is a US citizen. As the editor attached his birth certificate just to prove the point of how stupid Scott is.

I am sure people on this wall will claim that the birth certificate is fake, which I would reply means that theirs must also be too and they are not US citizens either.

Hey Kevin on Shore. You must be a product of the public schooling that your man Obama so adores (for everyone else except his own children of course). Your quote: 'they deserved to lose for even thinking that Palin was good for THERE party doesn't make much sense. Did you mean THEIR party?

No one questions things anymore. Now I am going to lean to the side and think Luke Scott is wrong. And this is not the place. But there are a lot of thing wrong wiht the world and people are dumbed down. People are afraid to question the status quo. On this one, I think Scott is off the mark. But you can tell he is passionate about it. There are a lot of supposed conspiracies out there, that may be true or could be all bs, but this one I doubt. I am also worried that this is going to reach an epic number of comments. Here is a conspiracy for you, this is used as a diversionary tactic, because the Orioles are not going to make any more quality moves during the off-season, And Luke Scott will be playing 1B. Oh no.

Remember all the right wing freaking out when Delgado refused to take his hat off for the US National Anthem? Luke Scott should shut up and confine his comments to things he knows something about, like cold streaks.

Humans don't breathe oxygen. They breathe nitrous oxide, and that's what keeps them alive. I'm sorry, say whatever you want, but that's just what I believe. I understand you'll show me scientific evidence of what I say being untrue, but where are you getting your scientific evidence? See, this is just my belief. I believe it. You can't prove it wrong, even with facts, because it's my belief.

And afterall, we're talking about it. I just said it, so if you try to say it's wrong, that means we're engaged in an argument. And obviously if we're engaged in an argument, that means it isn't a settled issue.

Unfortunately the whole interview was not transcribed. Some of Luke's other views.

The Earth was created in 7 days.
The Pyramids were built by Aliens.
The Earth is flat.
The Sun revolves around the Earth.
Saddam Husain had yellow cake. (with a nice Strawberry frosting)
Liberals want to enslave Gun owners.
Guns were created by God on 8th day (along with the M1911).
Women should be bear foot and pregnant (but if they're not pregnant, they should where 7 inch heals...to help them become pregnant)
Gay people hate their country and shouldn't be allowed to die for it.
Science has confirmed the existence of God (and that Pizza Hut cheesy bites Pizza is the work of the Devil).
Our Forefathers intended everyone to own a Nuke.
Osama Bin Laden was in Iraq in 2002. (chillin' with Sadam, and Urday bitter that American women can wear bikinis.)
Global Warming doesn't exist because it's cold outside.
That bringing Fire Arms to the locker room is okay. (there are a lot of crimes that happen in the O's Locker Room. By Luke bringing his guns to work, Brian Roberts is stealing a lot less bases....)

...remember kids, the Right to Free Speech includes the right to ignorance.

Those of you insulting Luke should be ashamed. I challenge anyone with a reasonably open mind to read the 32-page study (linked at the bottom of this comment) and not come away with questions about Mr. Obama's eligibility.

Among the many good points raised in the documented study:

* Hehas not only refused to have the long form version of his birth certificate (one clearly stating the attending physician and specific place of birth) made public, fees to fight those seeking to do so.

* He, his family and campaign sources have given contradictory information as to which Hawaiian hospital was his actual place of birth.

* A number of sources in Kenya (including government officials) and in the states (such as NPR) have identified him as "Kenyan-born." Even his wife has identified Kenya as his "home country."

* In fact, the Kenyan town said to be Obama's birthplace has become a tourist attraction.

* Besides the birth certificate matter, his complete lack of transparency concerning his past and present--refusing to make public records including his those concerning his adoption, baptism, school from kindergarten through Columbia and Harvard Universities, passport, medical records, etc. What is he hiding from the American people and why?

* His mysterious Social Security card--the SS number begins 042, a sequence reserved for applicants from Connecticut, a state in which he's never lived.

...and much more. The "birther" issue has been ridiculed, but no one who looks at the facts objectively cannot come way from it without conceding there are some real anomalies.

What ever Luke's political beliefs, he--and all Americans--have every right to know the background of the man leading our country. Try examining the evidence before you cast stone at a concerned citizen.

http://www.wnd.com/files/pdf/Obama_Eligibility_Primer_FORWARD6.pdf

What do you expect to hear from a right wing conservative? Have right wing conservatives had any favorable comments about any democrat in history? Wake Up. George Washington for example, he was not a US Citizen, but he is the Father of Our Country.
Maybe the right wing conservatives can discuss that for a year and a half. Instead of discussing useless information, why don't we spend the time and energy and try and help our country and our citizens get out of this recession. Thank you for the opportunity to speak out. Bil Bocchino

I have contacted the Oeioles and informed them that I will not be renewing my season tickets as long as this guy remains on the team.

Does anyone know what Luke's "beliefs" are regarding gravity? One can only hope he doesn't "believe" in it and choses to test his theory out.

It's Luke for heaven's sake. No secrets about his leanings. Just hit a few dingers and we won't talk politics or religion.

WAY too many fastballs to the head for tthis drooling imbecile...

Can we move on?????????

President Obama's birth certificate is NOT a long discussion or passionate topic of Conservatives. You're just repeating nonsense. Only an extreme fringe of the population believes Obama was born outside the US. It's wrong to present it as anything more. It's like saying liberals passionately believe John McCain is a tratior and not a US citizen. After all, Howard Dean's brother lead a campaign to paint McCain as such. Say what you want about Luke Scott, but it's not fair to paint with such a broad brush.

_____________

Oh ok, so this is useless? Ok let me kill somebody but instead of discussing about that useless information, lets move on to other issues. That would work for me.

I am surprised that the democrats are actualy more racists than the repubs. that is truly a surprise.

Hey Kevin on Shore. You must be a product of the public schooling that your man Obama so adores (for everyone else except his own children of course). Your quote: 'they deserved to lose for even thinking that Palin was good for THERE party doesn't make much sense. Did you mean THEIR party?

-------------------------------------------------------

Hey 58colts, before you blow off at someone, make sure you’ve got the right target. ... I never said this, buddy — and I didn't vote for Obama. (I thought this was a meaningless story on a sports blog, though).

Who cares about Luke Scott's crackpot theories? All I care about is him having an entire season of fairly consistent play. Never in all of my days loving the O's have I seen such a bipolar player. When he is bad, he is HORRIBLE. And when he is good, he is GREAT. Focus on baseball and not the perpetuation of propaganda and maybe you can be GREAT all year. Do your job!

I'll take an Earl Weaver approach. If he hits 3 run homers, he can say anything he wants to. Otherwise , he can zip it.

As if our play on the field wasn't embarrassing enough. . . .

Thanks Luke.

@Go Orioles...

lol reread my post, i didnt do any name calling!! so not everyone that was against Luke Scott resorted to name calling. get ya facts str8! lol

as for people who have the argument that his birth certificate is fake.... first its he doesnt even haaaaave a birth certificate... now its 'its a fake!!!!''' LOL. That doesnt look a lil odd to you?????

If he had a fake again, FBI State Dept, REBULICANS would not have let him run for President. The fact that he is President, obviously should put to rest this argument...

unfortunately people will keep spreading this ''rumor'' to create unrest and as a reason why they dont like him. to get other people to agree with them on this issue, i guess wins votes for the other side.

if you cant see that as a possibility but can see it possible that a foreigner can run for president with a fake birth certificate, then there is no helping you lol. i didnt know so many people were EXPERTS on birth certificates these days... you all must work for social services or something

Can we all just give this a rest? We're talking about baseball, for crying out loud!

I don't care what Luke Scott's beliefs are. The way this off-season's going, we'll need his bat more than ever.

"a birth certificate always has a doctors signature or the nurse present at birth. Good thing he is a ONE TERM president."

This statement above is fact although our government permitted Obama to run and of course it was for other reasons unknown to the public, but those reasons certainly remain secret for important reasons.

The leftist arguement there is an actual valid certificate is mearly based on false hope. They call good hearted americans red knecks but they continue to forget thos redknecks are the ones who fight for the very freedom we enjoy. The leftist lives life without a valid moral guide such as the Bible. If the leftist believed in god than they would understand who imperfect he is to place judgement on another. perhaps the leftist would understand what it is meant to be human and hunt for his own food. Perhaps the leftist has become too comfy enjoying his freeedoms of being able to inseminate fecal matter and call it normal or even obtain a marriage certificate by it. The left minded fool is mearly a product of the public school system and previously the british rule that once inhabited our land. I am not a red kneck but I would fight along side one anyday before i would an ungreatful leftist hypocrit who get shis news from Jiohn Stewart or MSN-LSD. and whom has no clue about individual freedom and liberty.

Way to go Luuuuuuke!

Why do you people get so offended of Luke's opionion? It's his opinion, not yours. He was asked a few simple questions and he answered. I guess for most people who comment on this it'll be "Off with Luke's Head" for them.

On another topic....What does everyone think of the way the offseason has been going? There aren't that many "top" free agents this year so we can't get carried away with ourselves. I liked some of the ideas I've seen about the Bartlett & Garza opinions. I'd give the Rays Reimhold/Tillman/Simon? Maybe we need to throw in a low prospect with it....Sign LaRoche or sign Lee for 2yrs(no more than that. Any thoughts? Sign a couple relievers...

And by the way, I won't judge anyone for their comments they make about my offseason suggestions....It's your opinion!

How obnoxious and dumb...sounds like a typical lumberjack!

Athletes' political viewpoints? About as insightful as musicians. Why exactly should I care one bit about what Luke Scott has to say on anything outside of baseball?

@Go Orioles...

Araron,

Once again there is no fact in yoru argument. It is all 'IF' that and 'If' this.

I never even mentioned 'fake' in any of my argument. It might be true but I didnot contradict my arguments.

third, go read the study that was posted here.

Every argument that is posted for his non-citizen ship has some sort of point and a fac tto back it up. But the ones that argue that he is indeed a citizen have nothing and have personal attacks. Why is that? It is always "redneck" or "ignorant" or "IF...he would not have.." blah blah. How about some facts like his place of birth, his birth certificate with a signature of the doctor and nurse (we all have that), how about a verification from the hospital? how about him self saying something about it and putting this to rest? republicans won't say anything because they are politicians as well and they only acre about their career. I fthey say something then it would be the end of their career. Race plays a huge role in this issue. If obama was white, I bet we would ahev several politicians saying something.

Ugh, I follow baseball so that I can escape from all the madness in D.C. Why did they have to press his buttons???

What an idiot

Obama throws like a girl.

What an idiot

yes you are

luke scott is entitled to his opinion even if it might make him seem ignorant, stupid, uneducated and not very well read. i wouldn't get upset with his comments because his opinion is of no real concern to others. obvioulsy the u.s government and u.s laws believe the president was born in the u.s otherwise he wouldn't be able to hold the office. i've heard from a lot of people saying scott should take his guns and opinions and shove them up his a** and those people have a right to express their opinion as well as those who agree with him.

Can You Say Racist ? Because in every redneck there is a Klansmen trying to come out !

OK, what's worse? Luke's comments about Obama, or what Aubrey Huff said about his downtime in a hotel room before a road game?

Obama can clear up the controversy with the actual document and not a copy, and with his social security number which has had some discrepancy based on the number and the state it was issued from.

Those are two things any normal person has to provide as proof of being a legal US citizen when they go apply for a job.

Bob Hope once said about politics: "You can't fool all the people all the time...that's why we have 2 parties..."

And Peter Schmuck has the following statement on his blog:

" 'Some say it's better to keep your mouth shut and appear stupid than open it and remove all doubt.' I disagree."

Those of you who have brought political sentiments to this blog obviously disagree along with Schmuck.

Luke, take your right wing loser azzzz back to Texas where we hide all of you losers who have no clue. There is a reason the less educated states and the poor vote republican, there is no excuse for you idiot...

Luke Scott is an idiot. If Obama was not a citizen, there are about 10 trip-wires at various points in his life when this would have been discovered. He should worry less about politics and more about why his RBI total is consistently much lower than it should be given the number of home runs he hits. Mr. Luke "Git-r-Done" Scott obviously ain't gettin' it done in the clutch. What a freakin' clown.

It is good that Luke expresses his beliefs and feelings towards our President.

It is also sad he has relied on rumors to form them.

Please watch this:

http://www.cnn.com/video/?/video/politics/2010/11/30/ac.berman.birther.debate.cnn

Well, if you can't make the news based on your talent, make the news based on your mouth.

What is it, 75% of MLB players did not graduate from college, something like that. Luke,,,DUH. Preachy people are annoying

Its sad that there are more posts here than O's fans at the yard!

People, there is a valid Hawaiian birth certificate for Obama on file and visible for all you morons at yahoo.com today. Do you actually think the American government would allow someone to run for the office of President without a full background check and verification process? Are you really that dumb or just racist? Hilarious people still bring this issue up at all. Face it white people he won the election and mostly because whites voted for him. Deal with it.

Gee thanks, Dan. I could have lived another 63 years without finding out Scot is an idiot with a big mouth.

It seems like Buck should start playing Luke in Left Field again!

http://fightthesmears.com/articles/5/birthcertificate

Please scroll down and read this article. A clear copy of his record of birth is shown. If you think the government is on it for some reason join the alien conspiracy theorists and where those tin foil hats.

http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/blog/big_league_stew/post/Answer-Man-Luke-Scott-talks-Nugent-hunting-and?urn=mlb-292970

Folks, this goes to show you why baseball is a dying sport in America. Just like this idiot, baseball needs to realize that times are changing and you need to adapt to those changes. Good or bad!

I've seen Obama's birth certificate and the paper that announced his birth (and I actually worked at the Star-Bulletin, which is now the Star-Advertiser, where it was printed).

However... I HAVE NEVER SEEN JIMMY CARTER OR RONALD REAGAN'S BIRTH CERTIFICATES! HOW DO WE KNOW THEY WERE BORN IN THE US???

Oh, that's right... no one asked because they are/were white.

Bravo Luke!!!!! Its nice to see someone who will say how they feel and not worry about the consequences because that is your personal belief. I am looking forward to Obama out of office in less than 2 years, I agree with Luke. If you don't like it I don't care.

I live in Houston. You can keep the birther up there. We're up to our necks in brain-dead, bible-thumping, racist, rationality-deprived redneck creationists here.

Thanks anyway!

@ Go Orioles....

lol since when did the word ''IF'' become a personal attack???????

how can you even complain ANYONE is doing personal attacks, when you are PERSONALLY attacking the President, by saying he is not an American citizen OR that he is a liar!!! That is in essence what you are calling him!

I do apologize for one thing, while i did address you in the beginning, my whole post was not directed at you - just a portion of it. When i spoke of the comment "fake'' regarding his birth certificate, it was for other people who support your argument and claim his birth certificate is a fake.

You say i/we have no fact to back up our stance... Obama is THE President. THAT is MY fact. He would not be the president, if he was a foreigner.

There are enough right wing and left wing websites with plennnnty of false info on them, to support a stance such as this one, to Obama really being from Mars im sure. Your website link you refer me to, is no more credible then the FACT the President Obama is the President. There is NOOOO IF and or but, about that fact.

He would not be president if he was not an american citizen. He would not have been able to foooool everyone and run for President. FACT.

and as far as Republican politicians not speaking up... thats just hilarious. THEY say anything they BELIEVE! They obviously dont believe the LIE that Obama is not American. They will yell out ''you lie" during his Presidential address.... but not speak up about him being a citizen???????????????????? Riiiiiight. They denounce anything politically or otherwise, if they dont agree with it. They would not hold their tongues, if they really thought he was not a citizen.

Again you ask for a fact from my side of the argument... my fact is Obama is president, he would not be if he was not american.

your facts are.... mostly rumor and innuendo. you know why right??? because if it was truly FACT... he would be impeached or not have ever been allowed to run.

And Obama has addressed this matter. Sorry if my using the word IF offends you though....

*Iraq War Vet... what have YOU done for ME lately???? LOL

If you read the whole interview you'll conclude that Luke is not a moron; in fact, he's quite well spoken even if most of his views are, in my opinion, misguided.

But as an entertainer, which is what a pro ball player is, Luke should be more careful and discrete in how and where he expresses his views. Why go out of his way to say things that will offend a large part of the team's fan base?

Good for Luke!

My new favorite Oriole.

Luke Scott is an embarrassment to Baltimore and a right-wing nut job.

Obama has done a terrific job cleaning up this awful mess that Bush caused.

I will never cheer for this idiot who likes killing for fun. I'm a die-hard O's fan but will hope to see Scott strike out - or better yet - get hit by the pitch when he's at bat next year.

BOOOOOOOOO SCOTT!

The guy hits a ball with a bat for a living. I don't care who he supports when it comes to politics. People are pretty sad if this is what upsets them.

Luke Scott is a racist..! I'm sorry ..that is one reason he is not with the ASTROS..

Obama can clear up the controversy with the actual document and not a copy, and with his social security number which has had some discrepancy based on the number and the state it was issued from.

Those are two things any normal person has to provide as proof of being a legal US citizen when they go apply for a job.

LOL And you think he was able to run for President without that documentation??????????????????????????????????????????????????????????? LMAO OK!

and you only need one of those and a PHOTO ID, not both the SS Card and BC.

And a copy is as good as the original.... the copy STILLL has to be produced from SSA.

Luke Scott is a racist..! I'm sorry ..that is one reason he is not with the ASTROS..

Posted by: MIKE TEXAS 66 | December 8, 2010 2:31 PM

That's why he and Felix Pie are friends.

Luke may be one of the happier, nicest guys in BB- he's now self-proven as one of the most ignorant. Putting aside the right wing delusion that Obama wasn't born in the US, he is ignorant of the laws and protocols of bith documentation. He does NOT have his actual birth certificate 10 feet away (unless he stole it.) Luke, buddy, you have a COPY. Obama has a copy. So if his birth is suspect- so is yours. Oh wait, he has the Secretary of State of HA on record vouching for its authenticity- what about you or should we start your deportation action? Who will vouch for you?
Can we please identify the top 100 morons in America- starting with this ignorant "belief-addicted/fact-adverse" fool- and tell them to shut them up and stop embarrassing themselves? No one cares what idiots believe except fellow idiots.

wasn't john mccain born in Panama? If he won the election would it be an issue?

If Luke Scott doesn't apologize for his idiotic remark, I won't attend any
Orioles games next season. Wait a minute: I haven't attended an Orioles game for a decade or so.

Tell Luke Scott that Fox News might want him as a commentator.

Carol

Why is Obama (or Barry Soetoro or Barry Sudharko or whatever his name is this year) so secretive about his birth, travels, passports, legal name(s) used, schooling, scholarships, etc.? Why doesn't he simply release an official, legal, and APOSTILED birth certificate like anybody else would? What does he need to hide? This guy couldn't get a basic residency or work permit in most countries with the so-called paperwork he has produced! Much less a Federal background security check!

Hello (hello hello hello hello)
Echo (echo echo echo echo)

Empty space for rent!!

Luke doesn't need to be worried about being invited to The White House any time soon for any reason.

@jackl: There is a law. It's in the Constitution. Candidates are required to file applications to run for President, and in those applcations is included proof of qualifications. Just because YOU never saw the proof doesn't mean he never proved it to those who really count.

Anyone who thinks he could have gotten this far without being discovered is truly hiding their head in the sand, or in Luke Scott's case in the infield dirt.

http://shutyoureverlovingpiehole.wordpress.com/2009/08/04/birthers-wackos/

Dan,

No matter what anyone's feelings about what Luke says, it's up to them to decide whether he is right or wrong. But here's where I have a major problem with what you wrote.

The "big right-wing conservative" and "huge Second Amendment supporter" phrases were clearly used in a context to put down Scott's beliefs.

As a long time journalist, you could haven't said Scott has "strong conservative beliefs" or "is adamant about his support of the Second Amendment". The terms you used are lazy and ones that expouse exaggeration and being out of touch.

Your comments such as "those around him have come to accept that that is just Luke" and "Luke was being Luke" are phrases used to describe a person with whom you disagree with or feel is mentally off. It brings to mind pictures like the crazy old man at the end of the block telling whippersnappers to stay off of his yard. They have no place here and you have probably upset one of the 25 players who we might like to hear from along with anyone else on the team who is going to be disappointed by this veiled attack on Luke.

Whether you like it or not, far more people in this nation lean more toward Scott's viewpoints that the liberal viewpoint. For you to paint him in a negative picture through your words is completely irresponsible.

It would have so easy for you to just say "Luke Scott gave a very interesting and politically energized interview at the Winter Meetings. Here's the link. How do you feel about what Scott said?"

Instead, you painted Luke to be some sort of off-base lunatic that no one wants to hear speak in the clubhouse. While some people may agree or disagree with Scott's opinions, I highly doubt that amongst his teammates that they all disagree with him. Maybe liberal-leaning journalists don't; but it's not your job to decide. It's ours as fans and citizens to take what gets reported and make up our own minds.

I will also say this: The birther issue is not "long a topic of discussion and passion for conservatives". The vast majority of conservatives could care less. Most conservatives know there are far bigger issues to deal with than Obama's birth certificate at this point. Someone asked Luke his opinion so he said what he said; but it doesn't mean all conservatives are sitting around all day trying to figure out how to bring down the President via his birth status. The next election will handle that situation one way or the other but it's not going to be decided by the Orioles Insider.

This article is a huge failure on your part. We don't want politics in our sports and entertainment. ESPN shamed themselves over the Arizona immigration law issue. I can tell you that the obvious bias surrounding that debate made me never want to watch "The Sports Reporters" again and cut my viewing of ESPN programming considerably.

It's truly a shame that you decided to interject yourself politically in this manner. We follow sports to escape politics and the world around us. If an athlete puts themselves in the crosshairs over something serious such as the comments made by John Rocker, then we as fans will deal with it. But journalists such as yourself forgot that you are to report the news down the middle. I certainly hope that this is a one-time slip of your journalistic standards. If you want to bash Luke and his conservative beliefs, take it to the op-ed section. Leave it out of the sports page.

And to some of the posters, lighten up for God's sake. He's a baseball player not a Congressman. And if you're going to call him a moron, at least spell it right.

Did I miss something in this interview? What exactly is racist about what Scott said?

For those calling him a racist, please go and ask a dozen or so of the minority players on the O's whether or not he is a racist. In fact, ask one of his best buddies Felix Pie (Dominican descent)whether or not he is racist.

All 12 or so of them will confirm he is not.

Haha... only in blue Maryland would this delusional behavior be possible.

On the welcome signs into MD, we should put right underneath O'Malley's name "Judge us on Intelligence, not Common Sense"

It is bad enough that there is so much stupidity and ignorance that goes into sports blogs when they are all about sports. Interject politics into a sports blog and now it stinks to high heaven. The "batting" average of those posting to this topic is well below the Mendoza Line.

You all need to go to the Rookie League and blog in the Bluefield WV paper.

b.h.o. voted against the born alive infant act,i looked it up when he was a senator in ILL. Luke is a better individual by far.

See a proctologist. Maybe he'll find your head for you!!

Ok, somebody remind me again.

And we should care what this no-talented hillbilly says because..... ?

Without getting into the substance of the remarks by Luke, there are two sides to this debate:

The first is that as Americans, we enjoy the right to speak freely so long as it does not incite violence. I am an absolute believer in that principle.

However, having said that, one must consider the fallout from making comments when that individual is in the public spotlight.

We as Americans tend to vote with our pocketbooks and wallets. If a public person (like an actor or sports star) make racist or intolorant comments, then the public tends not to support them. A case in point is Mel Gibson.

So, while Luke has a right to express his beliefs, those in the public who feel that he may have stepped over the line or his comments are out of bounds (pardon the pun) being a baseball player, then his fan base may erode.

Is it right or wrong? There is no answer to that as the American public is fickle and no one ever went broke underestimating the lack of intelligence of the public.

I always thought that Luke Scott was a bit of a right-wing nut bar. Now I have proof.

He's entitled to his wacko opinion. And I'm entitled to think he's a moron who I don't want to cheer for.

And MLB doesn't understand why African-Americans have deserted baseball.

He's entitled to his wacko opinion. And I'm entitled to think he's a moron who I don't want to cheer for.

Can't believe the number of idiots that have said, in their own way, that Luke is not entitled to his opinion and freely allowed to express it. Only when the opinion does not agree with theirs do they shout from the hills that he should keep his mouth shut. I am not a "birther" but I don't begrudge Luke (or anyone) for expressing his/her opinion.

So many people from the right and the left are guilty of being complete hypocrites. Most of you know who you are and, unfortunately, some of you don't.

To all the people who said they will be boycotting the O's this year because of Luke's beliefs - you and your friends are complete morons and little whiny sissies that you can't even take someone expressing an opinion different than your own. You are minions and you want everyone else to be identical minions.

Not here brother, not in this country - as long as freedom-loving people like myself are alive - it ain't happening.

Whaaaaaaa mommy Whaaaaa - there are people out there that don't agree with everything I do. Whaaaaaaa. His favorite color is probably different than mine too. Whaaaaaa!!!

Idiots!

Soebarkah is yet ANOTHER name that Obama used in his chequered past. This lastest alias was found on some Passport paperwork by his oddly named mother Stanley Ann Dunham. So we know of Soetoro, Soebarkah, and Obama.

And what about the various Social Security numbers he has used? And why was it issued in Connecticut?

What other name(s) has he used? In what countries has he had passport(s) or citizenship? Why doesn't he release his school papers? Why is this character so secretive? Could YOU get away with using so many names, social security numbers, etc are get a job, work permit, passport, married, and so on??

If this story was about George Bush, it would have been a major liberal firestorm in the media. Since it's about Mr Socialist, it's a non issue. Funny how that works. Kind of like how liberals want to ban conservative talk show hosts...and if they're so bad, why do so many Americans listen to them?

And afterall, we're talking about it. I just said it, so if you try to say it's wrong, that means we're engaged in an argument. And obviously if we're engaged in an argument, that means it isn't a settled issue.
--------
Ha ha ak, this is right on target. Same argument the Holocaust deniers make.

ObSport: Knowing that Peter Angelos is a staunch Democrat, I wonder if his well-known invisible hand in the day-to-day affairs of Orioles personnel affairs will inexplicably reach out, grab Luke by the scruff of the neck, metaphorically of course, and fling him to an MLB city with a more amenable political outlook (San Diego? Denver?).

You gotta love all these liberal baseball fans. That's why baseball is no longer AMERICA"S GAME. The liberals seem to ruin everything they touch!

Luke Scott is now my favorite Oriole

Luke Scott should worry more about being able to hit a ball to left field.

Welcome to the internet... the scrotum of America.

Nuts on the left. Nuts on the right.

The one thing conservatives need to come to terms with is that they had complete control of everything for 6 years, and the White House for 8 years. Look what happened, the country is in the worst shape in nearly 100 years. Republicans need to admit that it is there fault. Screaming about infringement of rights should have been done during the PATRIOT act. Worrying about the budget should have happened before we went into Iraq without a plan to pay for it. If you didn’t do either of those things then you have no credibility now. You have to admit the Republican party is more important to you than the country is. If you’ve grown up and changed your mind about things (and everyone has the right to do that) you need to admit that Clinton was a good President. Clinton left a SURPLUS that fiscal watchdogs should LOVE! After Clinton’s attack on the World Trade Center, no one blamed the 1st Bush, and there was not such harsh invasion of civil liberties like there was after the W. Bush attack.
Second, who is this reporter asking a baseball player about the President?! If he wants to show off pictures of his hunting trip, great. A player being accessible and relating to his fans should be a priority to the club and the player. It would be far more relevant to ask him about another sport.
Third, it’s not that he doesn’t like the President. It’s becoming increasingly obvious that people want the Church to run the State. They are separated for a reason, though people have a right not to like that. What bugs people is that what he said is factually NOT TRUE! The President is left handed, to say he is right handed is a FALSE STATEMENT. If I honestly make that mistake and see otherwise, then I am no longer able to be excused for continuing to make that mistake. It’s starting to border on slanderous. If you want to point out that Presidents aren’t where they say they’re from you may want to take note that Mr. Texas, W. Bush was born in the small West Texas town of Connecticut.
Why are people so bothered that we actually elected a President who is smarter than they are? Even his harshest critics say Clinton is an abnormally intelligent man. The first Bush was intelligent, Carter is extremely intelligent, Nixon was also a smart guy. President Obama is as well, and he’s black, with a funny name,

A silver lining: I guess it's a good thing that there are still jobs out there in our tough economy for the mentally handicapped - like sorting glass, or professional baseball player.

Luke needs to understand that to fans his politics, his religion or his sexual orientation are irrelevant unless he wants to make them so.

By using his pulpit to address any of those three topics he alienates some of the fan base.

There will be lots of time after his career as a baseball player to publicly say or do anything he wants with these topics. Now is not the time though unless he sees the writing on the wall.

Like him or not, Barrack Obama is the President of the United States of America. That means if you are a citizen, he is your President.

RESPECT, pass it on.

It amazes me how people believe everything they read. For one we don't get to see the whole interview to hear the whole conversation. This is just some writer trying to sell copies the same way all writers for papers do. They leak a story that is untrue (much like all the O's stories we have heard) to get peoples attention. We will never know the truth about Obama. why because the govt would look like idiots if it was found out he wasn't born in the US.Who cares what Scott says? This guy who interviewed him got exactly what he wanted, a whole bunch of people fighting over it. The negativity comes from those who name call and twist the American Constitution. He mainly stated his belief not truths and all the pro-Obamas want to not go to games. Now who is the idiot for believing what they read as truth. Hey guess what? You are the same people who believed the O's made an offer to Vmart and were actually trying for Konerko. Journalists twist things around get over it!!!!

Luke Scott is nothing but unpatriotic second rate player!

Luke Scott doesn't represent America either, thank god!

Luke needs to worry about improving his defense at first base! I know he enjoys shooting animals, but I DON'T enjoy hearing about him beating a dead horse.

The Internet is mostly a big propaganda machine filled with liars, scam artists and criminals of all types. This birthplace argument is old news and a dead issue. It's just a cover so people don't have to reveal the REAL reason they don't like The President. White hoods just aren't chic anymore (even in the South), so this birthplace **** is a means of protest.

I want to know what Luke is doing this off season to help the team to climb out of the AL East basement. If I want to hear some blowhard talk politics, then I'll listen to the king of talk radio!!

Or people named Nancy for that matter...

Another indicator that one doesn't have to be too bright to play major league baseball.

Man, there are some real dumb a***ses in America and Luke Scott has joined the club. What a moronic viewpoint. So stupid it's laughable. No check that, it's too sad and stupid to be laughable.

Scott is both ignorant and a racist.

Luke Scott is an unpatriotic ass. Learn to hit consistently, dork.

Luke- you're never gonna make it in a left wing. liberal dump with 250 murders per year, more H-addicts than towns 10 X its size, and a bunck of Econ 101 flunkies who think 99 weeks of unemployment insurance is not enough.

I had no idea Luke Scott was a racist dirt bag. And that stupid.

Next somebody should ask him how he really feels about colored folk.

Oh Nancy.....Luke is a brilliant man....the interviewer ask him if Obama was born in the US, he did not ask him if he was a natural born citizen.....Luke made it clear that Obama lacks the proof....Luke can show proof that he was born in US.....Don't question Luke intelligent level, I hear this from so many bleeding heart democrats, they can't come up with facts when their liberal ideas and darlings are questioned.....sorry no sympathy for Obama at all....

"You don't have to agree with him, but you have to respect him for standing up for what he believes in."

Oh yeah, you really have to respect guys like Lenin, Stalin, Mao, Hitler, Tojo, Mussolini, Khomeini, Idi Amin, etc., etc., etc....

No one has to have a shred of respect for anyone who believes things that are so obviously bogus.

Luke should take to heart one of Lincoln's sayings: "Better to be silent & be thought a fool than to open one's mouth & remove all doubt."

Can't wait to boo this clown off the field next year.

Truthiness

Former deputy Pennsylvania Attorney General Philip Berg a Democrat filed a Federal lawsuit against Obama to produce his birth certificate you can see Berg talk about the case on youtube

He could question the moon landings and it would be fine with me... if he could play freakin' first base.

Isn't it great how naive and gullible liberals are? They all call everyone morons who believe Obama was not born here, then say, "The interviewer provided a link to his birth certificate." Which makes the liberals the morons. Obama doesn't have a U.S. Birth Certificate. He's never produced it. A Birth Certificate is issued by the hospital where one is born, signed by doctors, and immediately registered with the State Health Department or Bureau of Vital Statistics, etc. What Obama has is NOT anything close to a Birth Certificate. He has a Certificate of Registration, obtained by his grandmother when he was 9, who simply went to the State of Hawaii agency that controls such things and signed a piece of paper whereby, simply by virtue of her signature, the Certificate of Registration was issued. No one has ever said which hospital he was born in. No one has ever named or produced the doctor who delivered him. That's because he was born in Kenya, and grew up a Muslim under the tutelage of his hard-core radical father. Like Luke said, "we all have birth certificates, and can produce them in 10 minutes". Why can't the President of the U.S. find his? Why do all the libs think his grandmother's word that he was born in Hawaii a legitimate substitute for a REAL Birth Certificate. The liberals, and anyone who doesn't know the real story, are the morons, not the people who ask the legitimate question Luke did, "Why can't he produce his birth certificate?" I DEFY anyone, including those that elected a Kenyan to the presidency, to produce a Birth Certificate for the Chosen One -- not the worthless piece of paper anyone can acquire simply by showing up and signing a form, nine years after the fact. I heard one of the best lines ever the other day, with regard to the national security secrets being published by the terrorists, WikiLeaks and Julian Assange (who's in jail, BTW, where he belongs). Whoever it was, said, "if they don't want people finding out all that stuff, all they have to do is put it with Obama's birth certificate and college papers -- no one can find those documents.

But Luke, you only got a 26 point buck. Jesus used to put down 30 and 32 point bucks. If only you could be more like him . . .

Trade him to texas where the ignorance can be embraced. He's a baseball player who the he11 cares what his political beliefs are. They keep talking about how entertaining the winter meetings are on mlb and we as orioles fans get this garbage instead of adrian gonzalez (he was just pretending to be from san diego anyway wasn't he).

This is just a distraction from the lack of success achieved by the Orioles' FO at the winter meetings.

great job insinuating your political views into the hometown sports page, Danocrat.
Perhaps if you focused on the item in your job description, then maybe some of the apathy of Bodymore, Murderland toward the wO's would start to dissipate. Nothing like shoehorning your political views into a polarizing article about one of the home teams current players.

Read quick cause Danocrat will remove this post just like he removed Independent's post or any that logically agrees with not necessarily Luke's statement or opinion but his right to have it and express it. Dan likes to leave up the posts with moron, klansmen, redneck and all those other literary gems.
As for Obama being more intelligent or better read than I am, I'll challenge him in a speech read-off.....WITHOUT a teleprompter!!

--
We are removing -- or trying -- anything that is way over the top. But it hasn't been easy. Just so many coming through. I kinda think Danocrat is funny -- though I am not sure how I got lumped into all of this. I just linked an interview. No opinions were inserted, except that I like Luke and he is opinionated. That's all.

Most of you people have jobs (except half you liberals). Given this, I do not think it is appropriate for you to provide your unsolicited opinion. Stick to opinions related to your job/career and not politics. Also, Luke was asked for his opinion, gave it, and was then criticized in the article for his opinion. Shouldn't we be criticizing the author of this article for writing about it and distracting from the real news of baseball?

LUKE SCOTT IS A BIRTHER????

Oh. My. God. Does he think that the moon landings were faked too? Does he also see little black helicopters spying on him?

Luke's just pissed because Obama doesn't want to extend tax cuts for the wealthy.

right on Nancy!
dumb as a turd
maybe he does not know HI is one of the 50 states
no wonder the ORIOLES will be in last play for the next 30 years!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
RAVENS ARE ONLY PRO TEAM IN BALTIMORE!!!!!!!!

Get a brain, morans!

to all you libs. how can you be a natural Born Citizen if you were born with Duel Citizenship? where would your loyalties be? it takes 2 US citizens Parents and child born on US soil to be a Natural Born Citizen. Obama Daddy was NEVER a US Citizen.

Luke hit some nice home runs. Other than that, he has proven he is nothing more than a dumb jock. Stick to baseball. We don't care about your silly conspiracy theories.

right on Nancy!
dumb as a turd
maybe he does not know HI is one of the 50 states
no wonder the ORIOLES will be in last play for the next 30 years!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
RAVENS ARE ONLY PRO TEAM IN BALTIMORE!!!!!!!!

Bada ding ding ding ding dong. Luke buddy, we respect your belief in J.C. and your good ole boy ways, but do yourself and the rest of us a favor and keep your mouth closed and your brain fixated on something other than politics and duck hunting, like hitting a baseball consistently maybe. Running at the mouth on topics you only get information from Fox News on, only reveals your true I.Q. and gives the rest of us insight into the real reason why for the large majority of a season you can'nt hit the broad side of a barn!

The REAL birth certificate issued in Hawaii in the 1960's contained the Name of the doctor who performed the delivery of the child, the name of the nurse who assisted the doc, the name of the hospital where the baby was born, the date/ time of the birth PLUS the names of the parents. But Obama's COLB ( Certificate of Live Birth) contains NONE Of these details except the names of the parents !! Can anyone explain why Obama has only a COLB and not a REAL birth certificates issued to every other baby born around that time in Hawaii ??

Obama has NEVER shown his actual birth certificate, what we have seen is a computer generated certificate of live birth, that is NOT the actual birth certificate. I can make up a look alike to Obama's certificate of live birth in 5 minutes on my computer. So now who's the moron?

Isra--very good point....Ok you libs, answer that one!

If there were more Americans like Luke Scott we wouldn't have problems we have today!

BTW - I wonder how his comments go over with big Dem supporter like Pete Angelos.

LS is my new favorite Oriole.

Oh look, the emperor has no clothes!

The REAL birth certificate was never produced. The live certificate of birth was shown only over the internet and that was never demonstrated to be authentic. The language of the election commission was altered on the signatory statements by the states to push it through. The Obama campaign has spent MILLIONS in court to prevent any copy of the REAL birth certificate to have been shown., when all they had to do was produce it to shut off this debate.

This won't go away. no matter how much Democrats want it to be otherwise.

Try this site on for size. Maybe you will find enough evidence to back up the FACT that the imposter in the White House doesn't belong. How did he get into Harvard?? That Hawaii paper is NOT a Birth Certificate so show us the real thing.
http://commieblaster.com/ineligible/index.html

The hunting and loving comments about nutcase Nugent were bad enough, but Scott is a birther? I wish for once these lunatics would just admit that the reason they hate Obama and that he doesn't represent the "ideals" they believe in is that he is half African-American. I am not a big fan (he is way too conciliatory to Republicans) but enough about his birth certificate. I mean really??? Still??

"I kinda think Danocrat is funny -- though I am not sure how I got lumped into all of this. I just linked an interview. No opinions were inserted, except that I like Luke and he is opinionated. That's all."

Glad I could provide your well-earned moniker. Just curious if I can look forward to you prefacing the remaining articles you write this year with a player's politcal and personal viewpoints as well as their hobbies.
Aubrey Huff, he's a big left wing liberal and likes to actually hug trees. He's referred to Baltimore as chicken$#!t town and often shares his viewpoints matter-of-factly in the clubhouse.....is this crap really relevant to the Orioles, baseball and sports??

Luke Scott is a moron.

Luke, the scarecrow called, he wants his brain back. I told him you do, too.

This sums it up for me, & to borrow this from Lincoln & Tessie "Better to be silent & be thought a fool than to open one's mouth & remove all doubt."
Mr. Luke Scott, can prove he was born in The States, GREAT! I can prove he is not a well rounded baseball player! Should he still get to play and be paid a players salary?

Eric, the reason why people like Scott don't like Obama is because he his principals are so left of center it borders on communism. You really think we would like him if he looked like Mikhail Gorbachev? He thinks just like Obama but is white!

Hell, I would like Obama if he forced through the Debt Commission Plan (developed by a team Obama put together). Enough with the race bull crap. It is the biggest cop out by the left known to man.

Luke is adouble agent in d midst of civilised n decent people. Luke d baseball side and Luke d son of a bloc-cla who emanated from d decendant of d Tea party.Bunch of no-good poeple with no repute, pack of divisible idiots from cross section of the cream of angry gringories. Me, me,me, me people, self-centered societal vagabonds.

An interesting diversion to the real issues of unemployment, deficit, nuclear arms, war, etc.

I guess this is more interesting than trying to defend 14 losing seasons in a row.

I've been murdered by yemicolo!!

Wow. Never mind that Luke Scott is playing baseball. I'm worried that the moron is actually walking our streets. At first I thought the interview was a gag. No one with functioning brain cells could actually believe the bilge that Scott was spewing. But he really believes it. And what's with the picture's of the dead deer. Like it makes him a manly man to shoot defenseless animals using high-powered rifles? My father, a Silver Star recipient in Vietnam, said that the biggest frauds on night patrol were the guys who always talked about killing and hunting. So when I read stuff from Scott about his weapons and guns and kills and that idiot Ted Nugent, and socialism and communism, and religion, it's clear that Scott is a very, very unhinged person.

Yes, in America, even nut cakes like Scott have a right to spew absurdities.

Carl Everett didn't believe in dinosaurs. It's no surprise that you can find an idiot in a baseball clubhouse. Other than believing the birther movement nonsense, he seems like a typical, harmless country boy. Is it probably subconsciously racist - maybe. Will be interesting to see if this further messes up the already dysfunctional Oriole clubhouse.

who is anybody and i mean anyone of you racist ass people or luke scott who is a baseball player talking about politics he need to worry about his sucky ass baseball team the lowly ass orioles who is anybody to judge someone. every since this man has gotten into the office it's been nothing but racist ass statements towards this man if you ask me all u motherfuckers are racist ass people who needs to get a grip on reality and leave Obama alone if u ask me i don't think none of you from here and I'm entitled to my opinion also. that's the problem it's so much hate in this world u people just don't get it. we are the problem and also the solution.
get a damn grip u losers.

TO: You have got to be one of the most ridiculous people to ever write on this blog...Is this Terrel Owens? Your assumptions that leftists can't or aren't Christians is laughable! By the way, I voted for McCain, I'm Republican and you are still one of the most ignorant people I have encountered. Are you doing this just to get people riled up?

Don't put down Luke for smarts. He probably has found a way out of Baltimore. From what I read here, that is plenty smart.

Another braindead hillbilly. Obama win a 2nd term, these "take our country back" nutts gonna start another civil war if they don't all die of heart attacks first.. lol

The beauty of sports is that we can all come together and root for our team, regardless of differences in religion, politics, social status, etc.

Luke didn't do himself any favors spouting off about this. But all of you who are getting bent out of shape about it aren't doing yourselves any favors either.

I hope Luke hits 40 home runs this year, regardless of whom he votes for.

Good for Luke! If more people were that outspoken, we could further reduce the damage our lovely President is doing! It will be a great day when Maryland goes Red again! If we start focusing on personal accountability and not free hand outs our deficit goes away, we add more jobs, and just maybe, Angelos opens the wallet!

ARE the majority of O's fans in Baltimore Democrats? He speaks his mind, so what. You know what you get from Luke. Me and Adam Jones have your back Luke. If they trade him for this, I will not support the O's for the rest of my life.

I find it funny how people are quick to call Scott a racist and they don't even know him. I have a word for you: HYPOCRITE.

Agree with it or not it's his views, askewed as it may be, and he's entitled to it. There are far worse people out there.

I'm more concerned with the idiots in the White House and Congress who are constantly limiting our freedoms and liberties at a faster rate than even before. What really appalls me is the fact that the American people actually think that voting Republican or Democrat will actually make a difference. It's the same old same old.

Who brought up Obama's citizenship issue? Oh yeah, it was the famous right winger birther Hillary Clinton's staff. They backed off when accused of "racism", because, clearly anyone non-white is NOT to be questioned about anything. And when liberals screamed that McCain was born in the Canal Zone and not a citizen and demanded to see his COLB, what did McCain do? He produced it. What did Obama do? He sued to keep all of his records sealed from public view.
I have my COLB right here. It wasn't printed on a computer, like the Obama so-called BC, but hand written, as they were in the 60's.
Liberals all know about George Bush's grades from Yale, because he was a C student. But what were Obama's grades at Harvard?
Sorry, you're not allowed to see them.

Wow -- I've read through the comments, and I see at least a dozen people accusing Luke of being racist.

I read the interview, and Luke essentially said that Obama's socialist policies are damaging the country; and that by not providing acceptable birth documentation, he must be hiding something.

You and I don't have to agree with either position. But it's a completely illogical leap to label him as a racist.

Racism has abated significantly, but is still a problem that should be treated seriously. Crying wolf does not help.

hey Dave why don't u get a grip you idiot and this is not T.O. he's a loser just like you and I speak my mind. that's right i said it racist you sound like you racist to i bet you the kind of person who shows up late to work or have no job who has no clue about reality and my blogging has hit a nerve i see. don't start something you can't and won't finish clown.

Turn off Fox News and work on your fielding ya moron.

Luke Scott is entitled to his own opinions, but he is not entitled to his own facts.

Trivia question: Where was John McCain born? Answer: Panama. So why is he an American citizen, Luke? Because his parents were Americans, as was Obama's mother. Criticize the president all you want. (I'll be voting for him again) But call him a traitor? You're a moron. The president who should be held accountable for deceiving this country (as Luke said Obama has done in his full remarks) is former President Bush who led this country into war under pretenses he knew were false.

Who the hell cares what a grown man playing a childs game thinks.

Embarrassed by Luke Scott.??? You people live in Baltimore, read the barely literate columns of The Sun, and are concerned about what the O's are doing at the winter meetings. You have much more to be embarrassed about! But none of that makes Luke any less right.

MLB and Orioles should discipline this traitor. Go to #howstupidisLukeScott

Thomas: Obama doesn't have to prove his citizenship to any of the bureaus you mention because he is a minority and a liberal, their poster boy! He's a lousy president , an illegal president and not my president, EVER. Cudos to Luke. He's now my favorite Oriole and I applaud him for speaking his mind. Get-em, Luke.

YOU GO LUKE.

Anyone who has done any research on this subject of their own, knows that that phony 'BIRTH CERTIFICATE" is a photo shop piece of junk. They didn't have PC's when OBAMA was born. The Birth Certs were handwritten on a form. People Need to Wake Up. We have put a fake and phony in the White House.

If you put woodieman's head up to your ear you can hear the ocean....

The certificate of live birth from Hawaii is not the same as a birth certificate. There is also the question about the fact that Obama's father was not a citizen which means that he is not a "Natural Born Citizen" required in the Constitution to be eligible. Luke is right. Why doesn't Obama provide absolute proof? His refusal to do so makes it all smell as fishy as the boats coming in at Crisfield on a good day.

Moronic birthers!

I suppose he voted for McCain... who was born in Panama.

A person who says that equality should be earned and is not a right is a damn racist! I read the article and it is the rantings of a bigot and an imbecile.

I'm personally sick of ignorant backwoods hicks running around expressing idiotic opinions. As an American I am embarassed about ill informed people babbling about Obama, his birth certificate and raving about how anything other than "survival of the fittest" policies is "communism" or worse. All this shows is that being a sports star doesn't mean a high IQ

I'm an American! No liberal no conservative, just an American!

see why poltics should NEVER have any place on a sports blog. People , like myself, care about sports related news not involving politics. Especially when its pretty obvious this was posted because of your own personal bias against what he had to say. I think i speak for many when i say I come here to read and dicuss sports, not politics.

Morons, your bus is leaving.

Alert! Alert! A typical progressive tactic is to call people that disagree with them something that means "stupid". ie... something like "ignorant back woods hicks"

McCain was born in Panama. So Obama supporters argue that he is not a citizen by birth.
Check out the US Code Title 8>Ch 12>Sub Ch III >Part I>§ 1403. It reads:

"Any person born in the Canal Zone on or after February 26, 1904, and whether before or after the effective date of this chapter, whose father or mother or both at the time of the birth of such person was or is a citizen of the United States, is declared to be a citizen of the United States"

It is clear. McCain is US citizen by BIRTH.

Where do people like that come from?

I, for one, did vote for John McCain and you Darren are an idiot for insinuating that he may be something akin to the natural born Kenyan that is currently occupying the White House. Here is some info you may have been to lazy to locate on your own. John Sidney McCain III was born on August 29, 1936, at Coco Solo Naval Air Station in the Panama Canal Zone, the second of three children born to naval officer John S. McCain Jr. and his wife, Roberta. At the time of his birth, the McCain family was stationed in the Panama Canal Zone, under American control. Also you may want to check out the link I posted a few hours ago that brings up many many points that Nobama can not refute. Want to stop this, provide a valid birth certificate. Can't do it can you?? I can, John McCain can and so can every other President we have ever had. http://commieblaster.com/ineligible/index.html

I don't think Dave is from the US either. He speaks and writes terrible English. Probably a liberal on foodstamps!

Luke Scott is ignorant. The o's should cut him because anyone that dumb should be not trusted to make any intelligent decisions!

Luke;
With your salary you ought to be glad that you will still get the benefits of tax cuts that will not expire at the end of this year.

wow, it is amazing on here how many people don't realize that Obama's birth certificate was produced by the President....someone on here was even stupid enough to type in that our President should be limited to two terms, are people THAT stupid in the United States that they don't realize that has been in effect since FDR? Damn, I am more and more amazed each day how absolutely stupid the people of this country are becoming? Not only did Obama produce his birth certificate, it was in both papers the day he was born in Honolulu....you people are amazing....no wonder we are ranked 14th in the world in education, and even lower in Math and Science's!

To those of you that think Aliens DIDN'T make the Pyramids, check out the link below.

All REAL American's, who love America, know about the Aliens building the Pyramids.

If you don't believe in Aliens building the Pyramids you're a Commie, Nazi, Socialist, traitor, hypocrite, dummy, who want's to take my Freedom and Guns.

http://www.outerworlds.com/likeness/aliens/aliens.html

Hoss, you idiot, he already produced his birth certificate, you birther's are just a totaly bunch of freaking idiots.....check out Snopes, but I am sure they are full of it, and are leftists too. Your right wing ridiculous commieblaster website is I am sure so much more reliable. What is amazing is that the vast majority of Republicans think you birther's are idiots too!

The pundit types who perpetuate this canard prey on folks who feel threatened (on some level) by a president that is different from themselves. Millions of Americans rely on these same pundits as a primary source of information. It looks like Scott may be one of them.
Nevertheless, is it really necessary to call people like Luke or his defenders morons, idiots, rednecks, etc.? The birther phenomenon is laughable, but when I listen to Scott in an interview he seems like a decent guy. I'd like to just leave it at that.

I'd rather not root for this fool anymore.

I suppose ignorance is a bad reason to trade somebody. But if it happens, I will celebrate.

If the O's are going to finish 4th or 5th anyway, they can do it without Luke Scott.

Call me a birther if you want, but to profess a fact does not make it a fact!
To those who say that Obama did provide his birth certficiate - when did it he provide it and to whom? If he does have a US birth certificate, then put it in the Smithsonian so this discussion ends. Luke has the right, guaranteed by the Constitution to expression his opinions as does every person on this blog.

Luke Scott's an idiot. Period.

Hoss & Ken Francis,

You're so far reservation here. Accept facts, not conjecture and conspiracy theory.

Even Sports Journalists know the truth...

(sorry Jeff, Dan, Steve, and Dean. I didn't mean it like that...)

Sorry to burst your little bubble there Jay but a little piece of paper that his grandmother purchased doesn't constitute a birth certificate. How did he get into Harvard? Who paid for that education and on what visa did he enter the country? Come on, give me your evidence. Birther supposed to hurt my feelings? My family has been in this country since 1738. Yes I suppose I am. Republicans keep asking me to serve too. How's that HOPE and CHANGE working out for you there Jay? Yea, let me know when you can find that missing birth certificate too, instead of just spouting off that it exists. Calling me an idiot without proving it is the same thing, just words. Show me the paper, then call names. Go on I can take it. I just know for certain YOU can't find a shred of evidence to back up your claims. Prove it or go home and take your dollies with you.

Jay, before you call Hoss an idiot and claim that Obama has produced his birth ceritificate, just take a look at your own birth certificate. My birth certificate shows the name of the doctor who attended the delivery, the nurse who assisted the doctor, the hospital where I was born, the date and time of my birth and of course, my parents' names. But Obama's COLB ( certificate of live birth) has none of these details except the names of the parents. Did you ever wonder why????

I spent my first 20 minutes at home after a hard day at work explaining to my 9-year-old son why the origin of birth is important for a President. Unfortunately I also had to enlighten him as to the importance of not placing too much stock in baseball players as role models. I miss Cal Ripken!

"Baseball is a sport where a screwball can be a pitch or a person." - Jim Murray, American Sports Writer and Pulitzer Prize Winner

Thanks Luke Scott for ruining the few Orioles games I attend with my children. Must everything be about politics, and why must every [jerk] feel the need to express their opinion. I would appreciate less right wing craziness and more winning for my $20.

I hope CC Sabathia plants one right between the numbers the first, second and every time this dope comes up.

Dan..keep to sports and keep your political opinions to yourself. you sound like a moron. your political views have NOTHING to do with your job. if you want to report politics go back to school, baseball is NOT poli-sci. And your lack of knowledge and ignorance is splashed all of the paper.

Dumb people don't know they're dumb, they think they're smart. They think _you're_ dumb. They're too dumb to know what smart is, so they're dumb and over-confident.

Luke, hit ball with bat. Catch ball, throw it back. Talking is not your thing. Thinking is not your thing. Stick with what you're moderately good at.

We've liked Luke Scott and now, love him. How refreshing for someone in the public eye to say what the majority believe. He is courageous and has my respect for being true to his beliefs and not hiding because of the liberal ideology of the media. People need to educate themselves--how many who think he is wrong have read Witness by Whittaker Chambers, or F.A. Hayek's The Road to Serfdom? Most of us in America do not agree with Marxism or socialism, and the direction President Obama is taking us is down a path that is contrary to the one our Founders had in mind. It is short sighted to play the lame race card--we are all made in God's image and my guess is, Luke knows that and doesn't care what color anyone is.

Haha. Wow. If the BS editors read these comments, let me say as someone who has never read your paper before I had no idea there were this many dumb people who read your paper. I'm sorry.

Regardless, I guess the issue comes down to free speech, but dude should be shunned. It is sad, but fine to be that stupid but a professional sports player should not be saying something that overtly, I don't know, anarchistic, offensive, whatever it is classified as. What? He plays his games 50 miles or whatever it is from DC believing he is one of the few who know in their hearts(& in the facts) that there is what? some foreign power controlling the government. Is that a competent human being MLB wants children to know about?

Look it is fine to think whatever you want. It is frightening to know there are people who don't think BO is an American citizen, but our school system is poor, it's probably not surprising people turn out like that. No professional sports player should say that to a journalist. That nonsense needs to be publicly shunned.

Lastly, the Orioles should have a basic level of intelligence you can possess to be a part of the team.

Hey Middleroader, my birth certificate does not say those things you listed. Maybe you are unaware genius, but there is no standard birth certificate as each state issues its own according to its own standards. Duh! You birthers sure am smart!

The Glen Becks and the Rush Limbaughs of the world Rely on ignorant gullible people like Luke Scott to make there millions and to continue their goal of dumb down of Americans.Luke Scott should shut up and work on hitting lefties. Scott needs to turn off Fox not so much news and become a better fielder bcuz we may need him at first base,,,ugh

Trade Luke to the Pirates for a bag of chips. In fact I'll throw in the bag of chips! Unfortunately they allow freedom of speech to friggin anyone. Maybe we should rethink that one!

Mccain was born in the Canal Zone which belonged to us, who the hell do you think built the Panama Canal. Mccain is as American as apple pie! The Canal Zone was an American posession.

What a freakin' idiot!!!! This country coninues to survive, even though there is a significant number of mouth-breathers like this dope. I'll bet he gets chapped lips when he reads the daily sports section. Good luck with this dope, bird lovers. I'll check the boxes on a regular basis, looking for this guy to fail.

I agree, people need to bite their tounges sometimes. However, in applying for MD state jobs, I have needed to give my SS# as well as two forms of ID. This was for jobs way less important (I think) than the President of the United States. I don't know what to think.

Always good to see the "tolerant", "compassionate" Libs come out, isn't it? Just remember that the tolerance and compassion that they claim to be so big on only extends to those in their camp. The Libs get REAL nasty when other beliefs are expressed.

Just another reason to love Luke Scott!!!!

Who cares where he was born, he's still a terrible president either way.

Maybe poor Luke was absent the day they did the state test. He probably doesn't know Hawaii became a state some time back before he was let on the earth. I think he should hand in his Mensa card. His kind of brain is what is wrong with America. The first thing the authorities should do is take his guns away, he has said outloud that he is a risk to others. I'm guessing an airport scan would show almost nothing on this guy. The Orioles should be ashamed they have an idiot like this on their team. Send him to Minnesota and he can hang with Brett and swap pictures of body parts or the Phils and he can hang with Mike V, another fine piece of work.

Middle roader, it's clear that both you and Luke Scott are the real idiots here. While there is a difference between the two formats of birth certificates you mention, they are both LEGAL and VALID. The first is essentially an officially certified photocopy of the original document. The second is a computer-generated abstract which pulls only the pertinent data from the state's electronic database. I have both versions, and I damn well dare you to prove mine is a fake. Get an education and learn something.

Repeating for the dullard birthers:

The birth certificate has been presented. Any further dispute proves you to be liars.

COnservative vs liberal views is one things. But- baseball is filled with crazy evangelical christians who think that part of their job is to being everyoine else to jesus! But, more importantly- it is fine to criticize Obama's policies or even say that you just don't like him- Fine-

BUT- when you believe something utterly moronic like he was born someplace else- that puts you into the category of a total and complete jackass and idiot. Period!!

ANYONE who believes that- has no brain!

O's fans Luke Scott is the best player on the team, but im sure he will get traded because of this. I know what he said is stupid, but seeing these hateful left wing comments is ridiculous. He hasn't commited a crime has he? Per john Harbaugh, if you dont like it then cheer for another team. Just another reason i stopped supporting the Orioles when i moved out of Baltimore.

Luke is entitled to his opinions. I believe that they are only opinions however misguided and influenced by people who should know better. What bugs me is that he hunts in places that gather the herds of wild animals at night, feed them , and then push them toward the hunters. That does not seem fair. But what do I know, I hunt wild game, not on someone's farm where I have to pay for game by the pound.

Way to go Luke! Free speech from a conservative in professional sports, a true enigma. Let all the foolish, true believer libs/leftists foam at the mouth, it is truly heart warming.
With my 2 college degrees, I might suggest he stick to the other facts of Barrack Hussein Obama's disaster as
so-called "leader" of the free world, however, Luke's got every right and perhaps even reason, to discuss the truth of our foolishly elected president's birth. Seems as tho' his being conceived in Africa, born there, or on the boat in the Atlantic is finally being admitted to, by this pathological liar and one term mistake president.
Luke, just be sure to be packing w/your concealed weapons permit, cuz the fools that voted BHO into office will be coming for you, figuratively, and perhaps otherwise, since the libs just can't stand to be called out for their gross ignorance.

Well, I'm not one of his team mates so I don't have to take his bull. People like him need to be sent to a place like North Korea--let good old boy Luke live in a dictatorship for awhile to give him a taste of his own medicine--then he'll appreciate living in the USA where he's free to peddle bull.

Luke Scott is an American and as an American can say whatever he wants, right or wrong. That said, I know for fact that some of the comments I have read here about birth certificates are incorrect. The "birth certificate" of which some of you speak is actually a hospital record of the birth, which is neither a legal document, nor can one expect to still find it amongst said hospital's records...do you keep all of YOUR paper records for longer than you are required to do so?

In contrast, the birth certificate produced in the article is in fact a legal document. I know, because I had the same problem when some genius in the government recently decided that I needed a passport to visit Canada. I had my ORIGINAL birth certificate, but THAT document, while containing a raised seal, contained so little information (just my name and birth date) that it wasn't good enough for the Federal Government. I actually had to send away for my official birth certificates from the City of New York. These documents essentially contain the same information that the President's does, no more, no less. So, not knowing the truth, that document is good enough for me.

That said, can we get back to the economy now? You know, the real business of the country, instead of this typical nonsense? As an independent, I'm not looking forward to the next two years of the usual Republican Spanish Inquisition, while our country flounders- but that's just my opinion, to which I am also entitled. I'm just hoping that, unlike while Clinton was the President, since the economy isn't doing so well this time around, the people will see this for the idiocy that it is, and put a stop to it.

Why haven't the Orioles released this moron yet? Oh, sorry I get it, morons get to believe whatever their fantasies tell them is true. I imagine Luke Scott will lead the league in HBP next year. Should be entertaining.

Tell you what -- rather than spending 10 minutes finding your own birth certificate, spend 1 minutes Googling "Obama birth certificate" and just see for youself how easy it is to find what the President ISN'T "hiding." The fact that Scott and people of his ilk can't take a minute out of their day to see this absurd debate has already been resolved is sad. Seriously, it's just this easy:

Doug -- that is actually not accurate. This form of birth certificate IS recognized as a legal document, sufficient for the State Department to issue a passport. This is the document Obama used to obtain his. From the link I presented before:

"The certificate has all the elements the State Department requires for proving citizenship to obtain a U.S. passport: "your full name, the full name of your parent(s), date and place of birth, sex, date the birth record was filed, and the seal or other certification of the official custodian of such records.""

This is the legally recognized document from the state of Hawaii, as their DOH does not even accept requests for copies of the long-form birth certificate. Anyone who's said this isn't a legally-recognized document is uninformed or dishonest.

About the bloggers
A Baltimore native, Dan Connolly has been covering sports for 14 years, and baseball and the Orioles for 10 seasons, including the past six with The Sun. His first year covering baseball on a daily basis was Cal Ripken Jr.'s final season as a player. It's believed that is just a coincidence.

Steve Gould is an assistant sports editor for The Sun, overseeing Orioles coverage. The Columbia native joined The Sun as a sports copy editor in 2006 after graduating from the University of Maryland.

Peter Schmuck has been covering baseball for a lot longer than Steve Gould has been on this earth. He is now a general sports columnist, but has been a beat writer covering three major league teams (the Dodgers, Angels and Orioles) and also spent a decade as the Sun's national baseball writer. If you want more of his insight on the Orioles and other sports issues, check out his personal blog -- The Schmuck Stops Here.
