Rotation update -- six days rest upcoming
With Chris Tillman pitching Sunday against the Tampa Bay Rays, the entire Orioles rotation will be pushed back, meaning every starter will soon be pitching on six-days' rest instead of the nornal four.
Here's how the rotation shakes out:
For the Rays series, which starts today: Millwood, tonight; Guthrie on Saturday; Tillman on Sunday.
For the Yankee series in New York: Brian Matusz on Monday; Jake Arrieta on Tuesday and Brad Bergesen on Wednesday.
Thursday is an off day, before Millwood, on six days rest, pitches Friday at Detroit, followed by Guthrie, Tillman, etc.

Comments
They should try keeping Guts to his normal 5 days as much as possible. He's always way better on 5 days rest than on 6.

Hey Jeff,
Do you have any word on Berken, is he done for the year?
Personally, I don't like the 6 man rotation, would like to see Guthrie get more starts, I'm rooting for him to make it back to a .500 on the season. It would be nice to have 1 pitcher with his head above the water line. I know, he would have to win 5 in a row, but that would be a good way to end the year.
I thought the O's were going to spot start the Arrieta, Bergeson, and Matusz.

Berken is done for the year, but is not having shoulder surgery at this point.

Why not bring up another pitcher or two and have the young guys pitch 1/2 games... five innings and four innings? It would give them experience, and would control the innings pitched. Let Millwood sit... use Albers, Gonzalez, Johnson, Uehara (Hendrickson and Simon make me feel very uneasy) late in games. They need another couple of lefties (Patton? Viola?) to to be available.

What is the value of Millwood's starts? To see if he can be the first 20-game loser in who knows how many years? He's awful, and he's not going to be around next year. Why not spread his starts out among any of the younger pitchers?
