O's jump on Sabathia for three in first

Yankees ace CC Sabathia entered tonight with a 13-1 record and a 2.59 ERA in 18 career starts against the Orioles.

He also is undefeated in his last 21 starts at Yankee Stadium, going 16-0 with a 2.05 ERA during that span. Then, there is his bid to become a 20-game winner for the first time in his career.

However, the Orioles jumped on him for three first-inning runs as the first five hitters to face Sabathia reached base. Brian Roberts singled, Felix Pie walked, Nick Markakis singled and Ty Wigginton drove in their first run with a bases-loaded single.

In his return to the lineup, Adam Jones followed with a two-run single, giving the Orioles a 3-0 lead. Sabathia didn't get his first out until Nolan Reimold flied out on his 20th pitches.

He threw 26 total pitches in the inning, striking out Craig Tatum and getting Robert Andino to fly out to end the frame.

I got grief from some today, because I said posted yesterday that "the jury is still out on Adam Jones".

I really do like Adam, but I wonder if any of those people are watching tonight's game. Nice job by Adam getting the 2 RBI single in the first, but after that 3 bad at bats including an ugly strike out in his last at bat.

But the big issues remains is his play in center field - he should not have won the gold glove last year, but he was pretty good. Based on his play this year, you really have to wonder if he can be a center fielder long term.

First, while a well hit, the best center fielders catch Posada's double. On Berkman's "double", he was too shallow, got a late start and took a bad angle and we won't even discuss the Granderson pop up.

Maybe he's not fully recovered, because he has been a litle better under Buck, but the O's have to seriously consider whether a move to left field may be in his future. Or - only half kidding - how about 3B - he was drafted as a SS and has a great arm?

Wow - who knew even Albers and Hendrickson are shut down guys. I actually hope the O's bring Hendrickson back one more year.

I'm not sure about Albers, particularly given the list of Arms you presented today, but he the last two months he's been as good as he was before his surgery and he delivered a huge couple of outs tonight. I wonder if with the power arms out there, his ability to get ground balls may be a good fit.

Do you think these two are in the mix for next year.

JEFF great game tonite I am proud of this team.. Glad to have jones back but hope buck talks to him he hadn't been letting so much get over his head lately like tonite..
